Tony "the bomber" Bellew

Recommended Posts

I liked him a lot more before the build up to this fight. He's a bit embarrassing the stuff he comes out with "these fists feed my kids".... He isn't James Braddock who has to take fight after fight to keep his family in the tough 1930's - he's a millionaire who's kids will have every opportunity and more.

I still want him to win but all this "I'll put you to sleep" shite needs to stop.

Although Cleverly has held a world title the pair of them are way off world class but still a great domestic clash

Cleverly will try to avoid a war and go the distance as he's technically the better boxer and although in shape he's out of his comfort zone in this division and if he does trade I can see a KO for Bellew in or around rnd 8

Clawing at a 3rd match? Gotta be joking. Those two boxing wise should be on box nation. Embarrassing fight. Technically it was awful, fitness levels were shocking. But yeah, they are millionaires.

I'll watch Anthony Joshua, Callum Smith, Luke Campbell, and a few others, those two are grabbing ££££ and ain't good enough.

Bellew wins by a majority decision, not sure how one of the judges gave it to Cleverly personally.

It was a split. I know you know that and you typo-ed the majority but I just thought I'd act like a twat and point it out :P

Also just like to say... Made up he won. All the stuff he said, it's all part of the razzmataz, hype and circus that is boxing.

The lads an Evertonian how could we not support one of our own!

I love Bellew and I think he does a great job at promoting himself. He probably wouldn't be in the position he is now if he hadn't of done so. Glad he beat Cleverly as I can't stand him but unfortunately as soon as Bellew steps up to the next lever he will be outclassed.

I'm amazed AJ beat Sprott in the first too. He needs to be tested but they can't find anyone to do it.

Thought majority was the same as a split, the alternative being unanimous, but having checked it up you're right of course. A majority is when two judges vote one way and the third scores it a draw. Never knew that, learn something new every day!

And I gave you an out as well.

Because he comes across as a right tit. So does Cleverly like.

They all do Romey mate, it's just all part of the hype, it's the Alpha Male sort of stance. Mindgames.

They get it drummed into them and most start to believe it.

Fact is most boxers act like twats before a fight. He's a season ticket holder with us sonI will always support the lad.

Absolutely spot on this. He just isn't that good. He's a decent boxer but he's at his level he wont ever be anywhere near a great.

He's done well for himself though so good luck to the lad.

I thought about being a boxer but then found out that getting punched on the nose really smarted and made your eyes water, so I didn't bother.

I did this about thirty years ago http://www.wushukwan.com/index.html

Fittest and most healthy I've ever been. Got as far as maroon belt then I got a couple of ribs broken in a fight at the start of a grading session (carried on and passed it though, hard bastard me :P).

It hurt, so I went back to the pub and got my black belt in drinking instead.

Looking at that site the guy who was my instructor is still active and a big guy in the organisation!

He's the slight underdog with the bookies but not much in it...

Should be a great night of Boxing they've put on a good card the only one I don't like watching is Price he's one shot away from being permanently damaged his chin and brain get scrambled far to easily

I love Bellew along with being a blue he's an honest grafter with a big set of nads but I don't fancy his chances Makabu can really bang and is probably the best technical fighter in that division, could be the Stevenson fight all over again but really hope he pulls it off

I can't stick the lad. You know those scousers who put everything on really thick and strong too make them sound "more" scouse.... He's one of them! An idiot.

Its usually the case with most regional accents and cultures when you meet a manc for the first time its laid on thick same with southerners even more so when you hear them on tv, he just comes across as a very proud scouser to me

I get away with it being from Preston its probably one of the least accentuated accents I can think of

Top KO that.

Watched Bellew loads...never been overly impressed. Fell short at the top a couple of times. Fair play to him though...seems to be getting better at Cruiserweight than he was at Light Heavy.

Good to see GP used too. About time.

I tried boxing in the forces many years ago. I had to spar with a lad about the same size as me and got pasted all around the place .... he was the inter services champion..... so I decided it was not the sport for me........ (He was a kopite too so it was a tad embarrassing)

Was a good night, great ending to the night anyway.

A few points to make though. Moyes was in the box with his family and friends, he wasn't with Kenwright. Though Bill did go into the box for a few minutes. When they went ringside they were near each other. The lads by me were fuming at Moyes the whole time he was there.

Don't know about the rest of the ground, but the service in the park end was shite. One of the bars ran out of everything apart from lager, cider and water at about 8:30. Then the tills all went down at the same bar. Was a joke.

Tony did great though, the way he pounced on him in the third and kept going reminded me of AJ. A couple of times he stopped to wait for a response and when he never got it he must have known it was over. Great atmosphere too.

Shame the undercard wasn't a bit more competitive though, was like a sparing session for the Smiths.

You can't knock the lads mental strength. Over does it in interviews etc but fair play great finish. His opponent moved his chin onto the punch which is "good night".

Boxing is at a high in Liverpool right now. A club I've boxed at (not done anything other than light spar, not messing this face up) does plenty of matches with rotunda and the continue to churn out good talent.

Boxing continues to be a great outlet for kids who are on the wrong path.

I agree with the bottom bit Haf it's possibly the best way I can personally think of thats available to most kids that's a great outlet and the discipline is great

I boxed for a good few years when I was younger and it's a great way to vent and the coaches were brilliant at helping the lads out and guiding them onto the right path

The lad I mentioned above Scott is from that very gym typical young lad who's dad a coach got him into it he's now a commonwealth gold medalist signed to Eddie Hearn 3 and 0 as a pro

Seemed to me like it was a fiddle, Malibu had won 19 fights __ 18 by knockouts and he looked total shite, my missus could have put up a better effort.

You arent the first person I've heard say that.

Sewn a few things about it being a fix etc the lad has great boxing ability to me he over estimated it by trying to peekaboo Bellew off the ropes got caught goodnight vienna

The only fix Bellew was involved in was putting another loss on his record by calling Haye out, if he can slim down back to cruiserweight he will demolish Tony

Haye as a cruiserweight destroys everyone in the division.

Losing the best part of two stone at thirty-five? Not so sure.

He still has the speed, the movement and the power to destroy anyone in the division.

Don't get me wrong there is no way he will as he is set on the Heavyweight division..

I hate it when you don't want to post personal info on here and some knob keeps questioning you over it. You are ok with me Matt.

What a plant pot you are! I asked him once. Knowing Matts originally from Birkenhead I might know his family member. There's only a few gyms on the Wirral and I know pretty much everyone in them.

I don't think there is any sort of fix with the fight. As good as the guys record was, he never fought and beat anyone of any real quality. In fairness there isn't much competition in the cruiser weight division anyway, not to take it away from Tony as you can only beat who's in front of you. But the fact he kept going to other weights looking for fights showed how poor cruiserweight is at the moment. He needs a unification fight, it's probably his only chance at getting seven figures in his career.

Said exactly this in the gym yesterday morning. Haye will smash Bellew if he can get down to Cruiserweight again. He's stronger and has more technical ability than Bellew.

Think it was a bit if the occasion got to Bellew when he done that. He wont last 3 rounds with Haye imo.
