I have avoided posting in this topic because I wanted to see as much of the boy as I could before talking about him. I'd never seen him play much prior to this season. He really does look pretty technically gifted for an English player, and he's a major talent. I think he should be used as an impact sub at the World Cup, he offers that something different that the likes of Sterling and Lallana can as well.

Slightly off at a tangent from the current discussion but I met Duncan McKenzie pre match.....made my day, was very pleasant and signed my programme . Also saw Ric Wee in the "fanzone" which was a bit less exciting.

I'm a bit late to the party on this one. Good reading everyone's different opinions etc. One thing that I think is worth mentioning living in the US we have NBC Sports covering the game and as result we had Arlo White and Lee Dixon commentating on the game. As opposed to what I'm reading about the Sky coverage with Tyler and Neville I don't remember either of them saying anything about Goodison being quiet etc. Yes, they remarked that it was a little strange and they picked up on the Gerrard chant but not in a context of the crowd wanting to throw the game or anything. They did what their job requires of them and commentated on the game that was happening in front of them.

Are you not criticising the fans who wanted to win the game when you say they had a "complete lack of regard for the shit that lot will throw at us for the next 10 years"?
 
I wanted to win and I know exactly what it would have meant, I know plenty of Liverpool fans that would've rubbed my nose in it for god knows how long. But I want Everton to win, no matter what. I don't think I was honourable for wanting that to happen, I just want to win.

Oviedo stuck out because he exceeded expectations and played much better than we could have hoped in Baines' absence. He wasn't better than Baines. They are just different types of players.
 
I'm not trashing Bryan's performances. I have the guy's name on my shirt. I just think it's a case of him coming in, us expecting to lose a few and for our left side to suffer without Baines, except we won a few and didn't skip a beat.

Then I apologise for getting caught up in it all.
 
Haf. You are very passionate about this but you shouldn't feel anger to those of us that choose Everton winning over Liverpool winning the league. I know it's not quite that simple but for myself I can't just change my stance.. I want Everton to win every single game regardless of what it means to others.
 
I am starting to understand there are others that feel this hatred towards Liverpool is stronger... I can't understand it but I accept it.
 
But let's not let this subject tear the forum apart. We're still all following the same team with the same passion, just we choose to show that passion in different areas!

Great to see two of our youngsters involved, although it makes it unlikely that Ryan Ledson will be on the bench again at Hull. It would have been good to see him get 5-10 minutes,

I do see the point about people criticising the fans in the game when just listening to commentators on the TV, you really had to be there.
But please also understand that the fans that didn't go have been brainwashed into believing the atmosphere was dead. And that's not their fault.
 
I just don't think it's fair to make out they are less knowledgeable about football and Everton because they don't go and watch them.
Atmosphere in a particular match then yes fair enough.
 
This match has been the worst match of the season. It has shown us to be just the same as fans we hate. Just shows we are just as bitter.
It's split our own fans and caused arguments and resentment....and admittedly I have been part of it, for which I'm ashamed i stooped so low.

And as I have already pointed out, I am no armchair fan. I don't get to as many games as I would like to but I go when ever possible.
 
But I am Intelligent enough to realise that there are many armchair fans out there that are more educated and intelligent than me and that there are also many armchair fans that know much more about football than I will ever know.

MC, you should drop the whole armchair fan thing. You will come across a much more fair opinionated person then. And I may have been sarcastic to this point but I mean that last comment in the best way.
It's an unfair statement to make to the people that love the club but don't have the opportunity to go regularly.

I'd prefer him to go so that he knows he can fulfill his international goals while staying an Everton player.

Cool stuff, I guessed 4th or 5th and was spot on. We get 5th but were battling for 4th most of the way.
 
I think the real tough one is predicting next year. We have Europa, Roberto's second year, more new signings, and more youngsters. But also a united team that will spend spend spend and spurs team that could come together with a new manager. Should be another fascinating year.

But it's still extra income. Hopefully the accountants at the club are busy with their calculators working out how much extra bob can have in his transfer budget.
 
Plus the main thing is the raised profile of the club, the added attraction to potential new signings (maybe, dare I say it, investors?) and that it is the next step. A step in the right direction.
 
The side note being that the fact some fans don't like the idea of the Europa cup is more a fault of uefa's and how they have set it all up than anything else.

As it stands, Everton have qualified for the playoff stage of the UEFA Europa League. If Arsenal win the FA Cup, Everton will receive a bye to the Group stage.

It looks pretty good. The new gate is nice with its custom EFC crest at the top and the tower within it.

This is just my opinion now and don't mean to offend anyone. But I honestly think that not wanting Europa is a small club mentality, Roberto certainly wouldn't agree. That's his whole philosophy that Everton are a sleeping giant, photos around the place of the 9 league titles, etc. Do people think United would feel the same, let's settle for 7th so we can concentrate on league form next year? They'll be desperate to win their last 3 games and hope us or Spurs slip up. Then they would try to win it if they did qualify.
 
Before anyone says it, I know they'll blow £100m or more in the summer, and have a bigger squad, but I do think it's doing a disservice to the size of Everton as a club to settle for 7th rather than 5th.
 
Again, just opinions and totally understand not wanting the shite to win the league, they will be insufferable
