He gives it his all when he plays, he genuinely feel affection from the fans and he won't be on mega wages and versatile too. No brainer really. Great bench/impact option.

A defender who could play as a winger.

Dear Roberto, please look at your bench. It's full of these players known as "substitutes." The theory is that they are there to help your team.

I think he knows more than anyone else that playing first team football for a club whose fans will love you if you "understand" them counts for a lot.

This lad has been treated like a prince all his footballing life. What I like about him is that he is very humble considering all this. He is possibly the most tehnically talented player we have had in a long time - but he isn't getting ideas above his station.

Good for you Gerry. Gerry, Besic and Mori are among my fav players - they are passionate about the game and seem to really connect with the fans. It's what we want to see isn't it?

When I saw Arsenal left, H walked in the room and said "you'll get Arsenal obviously".

I was happy for two reason.
    A - It wasn't the case.
    B - She was wrong.

    Forward line non-existent again tonight.

Clean sheets are important Robert, at least it gives you a chance to earn, at a minimum, a solitary point and progress potentially through cup competitions.

Defensively, it's been diabolical and the fact we don't practice defensive duties at set pieces destroys me inside.

Gwlad reacted to chalkpie in Why do the journalists give Martinez a pass?
I hope the journalists are reading this thread, because that is my intent........

Why do you give Martinez a pass and skate around the tough questions? When was the last time ANY journalist asked what is Martinez's plan to build this defence? What's the plan in detail?

(for Martinez specifically): Why do your players look so lethargic on the pitch? What is your solution to motivate them? You promised a better season one year ago, yet we sit in the same spot in the table - why? Are you fearful of getting sacked due to poor results? Why are you so resistant to changing your philosophies when the current ones clearly aren't working? Are you worried that the fans have had enough of the results this season and are ready to abandon ship? How much more time do you need to start getting some results? Why do some of your players look like they would rather be elsewhere when they are on the pitch?

Journalists can start there. None or very little is being asked towards Martinez. He is a big boy who gets paid a lot of money to get positive results and those results are virtually non-existent. Why does almost every other manager including Mourinho, Van Gaal, Rodgers, Sherwood, etc all get bombarded with the tough questions and Martinez gets a pass? The insanity of this situation is almost not believable.

Journalists: Please, do your job, and stop avoiding the tough questions. These players make a ton of money and need to be held accountable, and its starts at the top with the manager. Martinez owes everybody answers, regardless of how uncomfortable they may be.

Gwlad reacted to Lowensda in Now Martinez has gone, who should get the nod...
Just doesn't seem like it. No one is acting as 'leader' while he continues to fight this illness or is at least standing in for him.

He (understandably) nor the rest of the board have been at games of late (not that many of the others did). The club seems to be just treading water without any idea of what it's doing.

Someone needs to stand up and take the f*cking reigns.

Gwlad reacted to nogs in Martinez - Direction?
Does that even need a response??

Would a defensive coach have the authority to come in and say 'Look, lads, I know what the gaffer tells you, but can you please stop trying to fanny about with it within 30 yards of your own goal because misplaced passes and getting tackled tend have bad consequences there?'

Or even: 'Ok boys, that's enough of the one-touch pass and move today, let's defend some crosses.'

You don't defend as poorly as Martinez's teams have done for so long without it being a systematic flaw in the approach. I know I sound harsh on him, and believe me I love some of the things he has done in terms of personnel, playing style going forward, but the facts to me are plain and simple, we do not defend nearly well enough to be having an impact on the league and the manager is going to have to evolve his approach for that to improve.

You're right this is the best team we have had in years. Take a good look at it and remember this team because it's going to get torn apart in the Summer.

When our team isn't as strong next season I won't moan half as much because I won't expect as much.

It's not about one result though, is it? It's about Bournemouth, Norwich, Leicester, Stoke, it's about one win in two months, it's about not being able to do the basics at the back, it's about being 11th in the table with a squad that has every fan more excited than we can remember. It's about this being Everton Football Club and this, right now, not being good enough.

Im not suggesting we'll get relegated! I'm saying that in a table of mental strength we'd be right down there. I'll say it again, how many points have we lost from winning positions this season? More than anyone else I'd be willing to bet.
