NYBlue got a reaction from Sibdane in Finch Farm expansion
It's not something that I had really thought about until recently but I'm guessing the end result will be very similar to what Cortese was implementing at Southampton when he was chairman. There was an article on BBC Sport when he left that documented the changes that he made in terms of preparation to help the squad before match days.

It's building a solid base of foundations for building out the youth system. He's been talking recently about how to manage the small margins in football so it would seem to be money well spent and will be another string in the bow for Everton when talking to the likes of PSG, Barca, Real to turn round and say that we have built out the infrastructure of the club and this is how it benefits our players and how it will benefit any players we can bring in on loan.

It's refreshing to hear our manager investing more in youth. I see nothing but upside.

NYBlue got a reaction from Steve_E in Loans - what drivel
"Other clubs have players on loan, Newcastle included, but none have had greater impact than at Everton.

The Football Association need to address the Premier League loan system to stop it having an adverse affect on the table."

Those final two lines are the icing onnthe cake for me. There is no sense there. Should each player have a loan rating? And you can only have a certain number of points.

    In a word - drivel.

Had to watch this game late last night and that was a fantastic performance last night. Could have been different if Newcastle had taken their couple of chances in the first few mins.

The players have put in the performances that now set the platform for a push on the Champions League place in the home stretch and if you had offered me that at the beginning of the season I'd have bitten your hand off for the opportunity.

Yes, it's Everton and we tend to disappoint but in the past under the old management we would never have won 3-0 away to Newcastle with that kind of attacking intent. At least we can dream.

Looking at the games left the Arsenal and City games are key and with Arsenal having a case of the wobbles we can begin to dream, and I'll take that.

NYBlue got a reaction from Sibdane in Roberto Martinez interview
For me Martinez says all the right things. Always talks positively, always talks players up. I admit he over uses a few superlatives but it's nice to hear our manager saying nothing but positive things and not taking the view that we are doing well just to hang in there with the supposed top 4.

The team has obviously bought in to the coaching methods and as long as the team is moving in the right direction and he learns from his mistakes then I have no problem with his interviews.

There's also the odd classic quip e.g the retort with regards to Coleman yesterday.

Saw this and wondered why he felt the need to express his opinion on Twitter. I know it's now fashionable to slate Moyes on a daily basis but I'd prefer us to retain our class and keep quiet.

I'll take 3pts however it comes but at some point someone is going to be on the end of a thrashing at Goodison and hopefully it starts with this game.

That just turned into a shambles for 10 mins. Honestly I'm thinking we've been playing alright but same thing as normal happens.

Just coming back in to revisit this thread and I'm quite surprised at the thoughts about Neville. I can appreciate other people's views but as I say earlier I thought he did a decent job for him. True I don't hold the Moyes view of wanting 11 Phil Neville's in my team but with his limited ability he did a job for us.

Agreed but it depends what the definition of 'fit' is. We only need to look back at the Liverpool game to see what can happen. Although the player may be passed 'fit' that it doesn't necessarily mean they should be playing.

When we have played them the last couple of times at the Emirates Jags has been an absolute rock. If he does play I want him to be able to go full pelt nothing less. I know he is the captain and will want to play but we need to think longer term than just the game on Saturday.

I'd hate to see him be included, be running at less than 100% and then be injured for another few weeks.

A little harsh. I remember a time when Neville got injured and we lacked any kind of leadership on the park. Skill wise limited but he was a great signing for our club.

    I wouldn't begrudge Barry 50k on a 2 year with a 3rd year as an option.

No doubt RM has learnt from this decision. As long as he recognizes the mistake (and I'm sure he does) then what's done is done.

To put a Roberto positive spin on it. He could be an impact player in the last couple of games when we really need a goal. Having not seen much of him sides won't be too sure how to handle him. If he gets the winner against City at home or in a possible FA Cup final then I'll take it.

Agreed. 10M for Hernandez would be a great bit of business. If he plays consistently he'll get goals.

Martinez made some good points about Lukaku in his press conference today. How expectations were raised, it's about playing 90 mins consistently week in/week out, taking instructions etc and that the injury came at a good time. As we've all said he looked spent before the injury.

Until the send of the season he needs to get his head down, stop making smart remarks to the press about CL football, score the goals that will get us as high up the table as possible and then we'll be in a position to evaluate how much he is worth.

It's going to take him in a couple of games to get up to match speed though. Hopefully he'll start banging them in before too long.

NYBlue got a reaction from Matt in Same old Everton
I think we'd probably be 6th or 7th at the end of the season, played really well at times and also played bad at times. We'd have lost at the grounds at all of the "big 4" having played for a point in each encounter. Got knocked out of the cup away to a league one outfit. Barkley would still be knocking on the door and we still wouldn't have a good striker and be listening to the same crap from Moyes that we heard non-stop towards the end.

Compare to now after Martinez has been in the job for only 9 months with an improvement in our overall style of play and I think we're in a good place. of course if certain things had gone for us then we'd be in a better place but I honestly was slightly worried that we would be towards the bottom of the table.

Plus, there is the positivity in the interviews and press conferences. Listening to Moyes press conferences at United makes me appreciate Martinez even more.

Quietly confident that we can either beat Arsenal or at least get them to Goodison for the replay. We'll be playing Arsenal at the right time and they certainly won't want a replay.

Not going to get my hopes up too high as that normally ends in disappointment supporting the mighty blues. I'd love Martinez to successfully defend the cup this season.

Rom specifically asked to go out on loan and I don't think mourinho would entirely base his decision on a missed penalty. Mourinho is making a regular point talking up the project and evolution of the team against the FFP. I'm sure Lukaku is a sellable asset compared to what he feels he needs in his team. I have no doubt that a team will pay in excess of 20M for him and when it becomes an auction we'll pull out. 15M max at the moment, anything over that and you are relying on Lukaku to fulfill his potential but that's all it is at this point…potential.
