msloan78 got a reaction from Romey 1878 in Summer Transfer Window
I imagine it will be that Henen or Galloway will have signed. I don't think we would be able to conceal anything to do with Lukaku this well. Lol

I honestly think that the boy will be a superstar one day and I also think if we signed him he would most defo have a sell on value I'm also not sure on the whole "he doesn't get the Everton way" line of thinking either. I'm not sure many modern day footballers fall in love with clubs anymore, agents see to that. It's not unheard of but it's a lot less common. Martinez , IF he is leaving all his eggs in one basket waiting for him is, inho niave to say the least and if that 's the case it worries me greatly that he is doing this!

msloan78 got a reaction from Romey 1878 in When will Suarez be properly punished
It's ridiculous that any of the parties involved are considering appealing any ban. On what grounds they think it will be overturned I haven't got a clue.
Biggest bans I can think of are:
1) Cantona: 9 mths for assaulting a spectator.
2) Mutu: 7 mths for cocaine.
3) Duncan Ferguson: 44 days in prison and 12 games.
4) Di Canio: 11 games for pushing a ref.
These were for all intents and purposes, 1 off incidents whilst Suarez has been guilty of the same offence 3 times. As a one off, biting is bad enough and has already seen him banned so it is common sense that he should be bannd for significantly longer.
Legal arguments and stupid people trying to justify it all should make interesting reading.

msloan78 got a reaction from pete0 in Should cheating in football be accepted as 'part of the game'
I've done similar in school games. Warned all he kids beforehand, basically saying there's no need to appeal or throw yourself about. If I think it's a foul, you'll know because I'll give a free kick but if you start with mouth or cheating, you will leave my pitch.
Kids look at you as if you've gone out at first.... And then when I start giving free kicks against them they soon suck it up.

Wow..... Spain are Under genuine threat of not getting out of the group after that drilling!
Agree with you there Rubes, did not expect goals galore in this one!

msloan78 got a reaction from Toffee_in_LA in Hakim Ziyech
The way he runs with the ball reminds me a little bit of Pienaar.
At 2.5m that could potentially be one hell of a steal, my only concern would be if he was strong enough for the Premier League. Defenders might just Hak-im down.

Why do some countries insist on bringing politics to the World Cup? We would really do without it.

But did you know that some of Lukaku's goals we're scored whilst he was a kid playing in Belgium.

Could be a decent option since De-leaf-eu is a goner.

I think I've said it before, but I'd quite happily take all of those lads off City.... No problem.
You would hope that (for the most part) they would come hungry and with a point to prove having not played all that regularly, and also at a reasonable price if City need to seek to stay within FFP rules.
Bony... Still not hugely sold on, but having said that I know loads of you lads are not that keen on Lukaku coming back (which would be my choice btw).
I think the squad itself will certainly be bigger next season anyway, due to the young lads coming back from loan spells and a few other possibly making the transition to legitimate squad members. Add that to the 3 lads who will make their way back after long term injury and we're not in dire need of a huge overhaul and could probably afford to put a lot in for our 1 marquee signing/ 2-4 good quality signings.

I know stats don't tell the full story but as a 20yr old in an (at best) average league, Suarez managed 10 goals in 27 games (1:2.7), at Groningen 10 in 29.
Only as a 22-23 yr old, playing in an Ajax side that was carving teams apart in Holland did he really up his scoring rate.
My point.... Lukaku is still a kid, but has averaged better than a goal ever 2 games, and will only get better. Any striker that we attempt to buy will be a gamble regardless of age, reputation etc. If we sign him permanently (which I doubt) then I'll be made up to have secured, in my opinion, one of the best young strikers around.

msloan78 reacted to Bailey in Tom Cleverley
He reminds me a bit of Ramsey from last season. He did a lot of work on the ball, playing nice passes, always looking to move around the pitch and get on the ball but then lacked that final pass or finish and he even lost the ball cheaply at the other end of the pitch and gave the ball away in bad positions too. Ramsey has come back this season and turned a huge corner. I dont know what happened or what really clicked during the summer but he has added that clinicism and confidence he lacked previously and I think Cleverley is the same. He is a good passer, he links play well, he reads the game well, he finds space and gets into good areas but couldnt finish off his good work (which was typified in one England game where he did everything but score). From there on his confidence has gone and recently we have seen a player scared to get on the ball and afraid to make things happen.
If Martinez could get his confidence up and get him enjoying his football again, which I have no doubt that he could, then even £8mil could be a snip because after one good season his value would easily double. On the other hand, you could end up with a player that cant rekindle that fire and burns an £8mil hole in your pocket which is something we cant afford.

I like how Lukaku has been playing in the last couple of games. First touch has improved massively, and he is really linking play nicely.
Would love to sign him before the summer, and think £20m for a 20yr old who will only get better season on season is a gamble worth taking.

msloan78 got a reaction from Matt in Gerard Deulofeu
I think Deulofeu stayed for another year he could potentially have a similar impact to Ronaldo at United. Definite similarities in their style of play, and the challenge they will both have had to overcome in adjusting to a new league etc.
