Good to know that we are both a poorly run business and a poorly performing club. i think FFP is a nonsense, personally - would much prefer a salary cap as in the US - but it is what it is and we have failed utterly in managing it. BMD will help, of course, but it's a long way off. Can't help thinking the board (if we have one - may just be Moshiri and his secretary) need some people who really know what they're doing. Quite a dispiriting read....

Silva is a world class player no surprise he can fill the boots of any MF player in the league, Doucoure gets injured and we have Davies to replace him no comparison but if we had Silva to come in it would be a completely different story. We have a very weak squad and when everyone is fit we have an average starting 11 then you take DCL Richarlison Doucoure Mina and Digne out of that 11 pretty much all at the same time then we are fucked, no Silva’s or others of note in our squad to step in and fill the void.

The vultures, the naysayers, the told-you-so's will be out for him, but I saw enough in the first few matches (to the Man Utd game) to believe that, with a fully-fit squad, he can do a good job. It's going to get quite rocky with the injuries we have; I just hope we can all ride out the storm (Mr Morrison).

Gordon stepped in and has been good not very good, honestly where do you think he would rank in the leagues top MFs. Where do you rank Holgate v Mina Gbamin or Davies v Doucoure Rondon v DCL do I need to go on. No manager has been able to get any consistency out of these players, is it because the managers we’ve had don’t know what they are doing or the players aren’t good enough to do what’s been asked of them

Rafa hasn’t helped himself the last 3 or 4 games  (he does have fair credit in the bank imho for the first 6 or 7 games of the season) but it doesn’t matter who your manager is if the players are going to go into meltdown like they have against Watford and Wolves.

I don’t think he’s without fault, not for one minute. But I just don’t think he’s the biggest problem we’ve got.
One thing we are crying out for more than anything is consistency, and another manager won’t help that.

We lose the next few games and it will get uncomfortable, and I expect us to be back at square one. Still with a poor squad and still with no money to spend.

Injuries and a squad that isn't up to where we aspire to be. Can't lay all that on the manager.

England will have to fall off a cliff to avoid winnng this (always a possibilty); if they screw up Pakistan most likely winners, possibly NZ have a shout if all goes well. Can't see anyone outside of those three.

This is all I could find - certainly odd timing...
...during the innings break, a tearful Afghan said, ““I want to give chance to youngsters. I think this is a good opportunity for that. Most people are asking me why now but it’s something I cannot explain. In the last match, we were hurt too much, and that’s why I decided to retire.”

    Buttler is a class apart.
Pakistan still the team to beat, I think - 'home' advantage and great bowling - but England and India next.
Semis should be great. I've really enjoyed the games. Afghanistan have made amazing progress.

It was lovely watching England take Australia apart yesterday with the utmost ease.
Even more enjoyable was seeing the looks on their players faces as it happened. Total shellshock .

I was never a dissenter but he has exceeded all my expectations, off the pitch and on. Delighted for him and the team. Dare I say it, but a proper manager, at last.

I thought he set us up brilliantly today, this team again showing so much fight and togetherness which we’ve missed since the days of David Moyes
Surely he is starting to win over the dissenters now? The job he is doing and the way he has us playing given all the injuries and financial restrictions we’ve had is nothing short of remarkable, even more so given the dross that was served up after the millions his predecessors had at their disposal

I think point 7 is a nonsense. Most, if not all, top managers expect their players to attack and defend and run till they drop. Did you see Guardiola berating Grealish and Mahrez for not covering against Leipzig? Where's the evidence that Benitez wants a team of plodders? Absolutely none.
I think point 9 is a nonsense, too. Top players may be different in terms of technical ability but they need to be integrated into the team. You hint at that in point 8. If a manager doesn't think a player fits into the team, then that player is expendable. I trust Benitez on that. The fact that no big club took James off our hands suggests he had nothing to offer them, either.
