  1. With the hopes of qualifying for Europe just about over, it would be great if we could just put on a great performance, be 3 up after an hour and give the likes of Wallace and Baxter a run out.
  2. Rubecula - your questions are absolutely key but to my mind there are two quite different questions/answers here. Could we fill a 70,000 seat stadium? Yes, absolutely. But how often? Once a season, maybe twice? The ground decisions need to be taken on the basis of what they reasonably think we can average over time. Personally, I am not too sure that we would average much over 45,000 over the course of time. 50-55,000 if were consistently succesful but there's the risk. The best chance of long term success is to have a ground that is big enough to get the revenue in, but not to havea ground that has lots of spare seats each week. Quite what that figure is though...?!
  3. Based on these drawings; 1) What additional capacity at Goodison would this provide? 2) Does it involve any modernisation (but not expansion) of the other stands? After all, the Park End is the most recent of our developments. I suspect that these drawings raise one of the key questions/arguments about the whole option of redeveloping Goodison - that given the tight nature of our site and all of the surrounding housing, the only area where there is some meaningful space to add is at the Park End. There needs to be a decision - if everyone wants to stay at Goodison forever then that is fine, but it means there will be a limit to what we can achieve with the ground. The only other thing they can do is take many years to slowly but surely try to buy up housing with a view to re-developing further once we have a whole side/end to expand, but this would take a VERY long time and without any guarantees - not a good option frankly. Not to mention the effect on the very community we should care about. I would stress that I would dearly love us to stay at Goodison, but it does come with difficulties. Wouldn't it be lovely to be one of the few remaining top flight clubs with a traditional (albeit modernised) ground. Maybe a 2nd tier to the Park End is enough of an expansion - I for one don't think we can realistically hope to average 55,000.
  4. Keepin' the dream alive. Just win the 3 remainng games and lets see if we can get enough favours. Good fight shown though to get the win after the 2 comebacks. Get in Blues.
  5. He falls under the category of 'modern day footballer' - which isn't meant as a compliment!
  6. 1) Fella 2) Fella 3) Louis 4) Mike O. Plenty of others too though, with a shout out for Hafnia, DuncanMcKenzie is magic and Romey. 5) Any of the links earlier in the season where we got to debate the ground issue.
  7. Let's just go and give the game at Villa a real go. If we can sneak away with the win, then it remains all to play for. 1-2, a late winner from Cahill.
  8. Even without Arteta and acknowledging that Wolves are in decent form themselves, I still think we will win this one. 1-2 Keep the Eurorpan dream alive boys..
  9. 6pm Thursday and still buzzing from that win. Avoided the score, watched the extended highlights on Sky. At 1-0 up I can't remember the last time I was so nervous for us to hold on to a lead. A superb win, tactically spot on and tactics delivered by the team to a man. The pack in in sight... COYB
  10. Hull are poor and going down. 3-0
  11. Personally my view is that the subject needs to be debated in general terms rather than specific Everton players in order to look at it objectively. There are some principles that apply with the majority (but not all) players in today's game; 1) If there is interest from a top 4/5 club, they will more often than not be interested. The chance to play regular CL football and compete for honours is too tempting - and fair play to them for this ambition. 2) Top 4/5 clubs can offer a salary that generally other sides can't. Man City have to be included as part of this now, arguably more so than Liverpool or Arsenal given that City are seemingly happy to write blank cheques. 3) Young talented players will give consideration to staying with their existing club for another year or so if there is more chance of more first team football to build their experience up. However, they will offset this against the risk of their playing career ending tomorrow by injury. If they are on £20k a week or £50k a week then it matters in terms of their insurance/contract as to what extent they have given themselves long term financial security. 4) Agents. The agent goes on at them. Whether we like it or not agents play a big part in these decisions. And just like a salesman who is on commission, it is in the agents interest to secure a move to a top 4 club. When it comes to Jack - he is more intelligent than the average young player and is represented better than most as I understand it, notably by his family. I suspect we will get to keep him for a minimum of one more season. If we one day got £30m for him and every penny of that went towards securing a redevelopment of Goodison Park then I would consider that a deal worth making. We are fans and all share one thing in common, our love for Everton Football Club. However, there are fans that love their clubs in equal measure - Leeds United and Portsmouth being just two such clubs. The Board are trying to take the club to a better position. Without a new buyer it has to be a very long term, gradual business plan. Selling Rodwell would be assessed on that basis.
  12. Milky is of course entitled to his opinion - it's just a case that his opinion is a minority one. I pray to God that he never wins big on the Euro Millions and buys the club as you would be a nightmare Chairman!
  13. For all the reasons stated about his weaknesses I amstruggling to think who would pay £7-8m for Joseph to be honest. For all the rumours about Arsenal they have never ever bid for him and could Wenger really use someone prone to concentration lapses at CB in the Champions League etc? Did anyone notice that Jags was organising the defence (or at least tying to on a night when they all forgot how to be a footballer!) from the moment he came on in Lisbon. Will be fascinating to see if Jags and Hheitinga can form a partnership once Jags is really ready to return.
  14. Something I very rarely do - I am predicting we will lose this one (are you allowed to predict defeat?!) Sorry for the defeatist view, but just don't fancy this one at all. After this game, we should be able to pick up quite a lot of points.
  15. Moyes has done a fantastic job for us. To say otherwise is fickle in the extreme.
  16. I think he will start with Neville at RB, Yobo and Senderos (or Duffy, if Senderos not fit) and then Jack in midfield. However barring any more last minute injuries or illness, I really do think we've got enough to get through this tie. 1-1 on the night. COYB
  17. Superb. Granted, United had an off-day but a big reason for that has to be that we didn't let them settle and play. We hassled them, we kept the ball well most of the time and we played some decent stuff. Numerous really good performances - Jonny, Peanuts, Landon and top marks for Goose & Jack. Jack's goal was wonderful. However, my top marks go to Osman - possibly his best performance for us, bar none. Get in!
  18. I am very grateful for this topic. Some of you will know that I have always been supportive of Kenwright, I'm just pleased to see that there are plenty of others out there too. Won't add to the debate - acknowledged that he's far from perfect, but there isn't a perfect chairman and there are many clubs in MUCH worse state than our grand club.
  19. Jack and the Big Fella are key to decisions for the club.
  20. I think it's time we have (under a seperate headed discussion item) a SERIOUS discussion about what it is reasonable to expect from the club. All concerned had a bad day yesterday and that is very, very frustrating. I'm hurting too. But we're a second tier club in the top flight (along with Villa, Spurs and for the time being at least City). Sure, sack Moyes and get a manager that can play more fluent football - but they are not easy to find when you can't offer them significant resources to get the right players for the system. It's going to he a tough month but for the record, In Moyes I trust.
  21. Until they went down to 10 men I actually thought we were ok and on a par (albeit the ball wasn't really relevant up to that point!). But the second half performance was dire. Fuming and pissed off (how does these Derby defeats still hurt so much at the age of 40?!). Talk about passing up a golden opportunity.
  22. And the vast amount of empty seats at the DW Stadium is presumably because it is taking a little time for word to get out that Wigan under Martinez is like Ajax or Brazil of the 1970's.
  23. It will need a minimum of 60 points to get a Europa Cup place - which means another 28 points (9 wins & 1 draw or some other combination). If we can sneak a few points in February then it may just be on to get 60 points.
  24. Bit of a must win game this. 2-1 to us - Jason Donovan and Baines (pen). Win it Blues...
