Since Brands arrived at Everton the players we have brought in:
2018/19:
Digne (£20m) - Key player, one of the best LBs in the league and probably trippled his worth Richalrison (£40m) - Key player Gomes (loan) - Key player Bernard (free) - Good squad player, no money spent on him Mina (£25m) - Finding his feet but growing into becoming a key player for us Zouma (loan) - Our best CB last season 2019/20 so far:
Gomes (£22m) - Key player - secured full transfer at a reasonable price Delph (£9m) - steal at that price, if he doesnt turn out to be a key player he is an improvement on current options Lossl (free)  - Squad player, better than Stek Kean (£30m) - unproven - high potential Iwobi (£30m) - unproven, however promising so far, and has potential Siidebe (loan) - unproven, low risk Gbamin (£22m) - unproven Compared to what we have signed in previous windows recruitment has been much much better. I'm sure Silva has had a big say in a couple of those signings, however surly Marcel would have final say being DoF.
I would say that many of the signing Brands has governed have been better than average and most, if not all, that have been here since 18/19 have grown in market value. There is still plenty to improve upon, i.e finding replacements for Coleman, Walcott, Schneiderlin, Siggurdsson and signing another quality CB.
Brands isn't the problem, a squad blighted with injuries and poor managment are.

As an Evertonian, shit just keeps sticking to us. We again shoot ourselves in the foot with that woeful pass that lead to the goal. Shit just keeps happening and it's too frustrating.
As for VAR, I'm not a fan. Never have been and for me it's getting more inconsistent as the weeks go on. It's getting worse rather than better.
Stuck for words tbh. Feel quite emotional for some reason. Life of an Evertonian eh.

Very tough day. On the whole I thought the shape was a lot better, bar the chance we handed to them on the plate they did absolutely nothing. We just lacked quality time and time again. Our decision making and execution were both terrible for 95% of the game.
None of that matters though really... I wish Gomes all the best and I hope to see him wear the shirt again.

But to honest guys n girls, I'm not too worried about the season ahead. Generally.
I think today will end up being one of our worst all round performances this season. We'll get beat again, no doubt. But we'll rarely play like that again.
There'll be goals in this team. They'll come. I've no worries about that. And we've shown we can play tight at the back.
It's just so bloody frustrating tonight. No point slinging mud only 3 games in, but we do need to find a way to break teams down when they pack their boxes.

But to honest guys n girls, I'm not too worried about the season ahead. Generally.
I think today will end up being one of our worst all round performances this season. We'll get beat again, no doubt. But we'll rarely play like that again.
There'll be goals in this team. They'll come. I've no worries about that. And we've shown we can play tight at the back.
It's just so bloody frustrating tonight. No point slinging mud only 3 games in, but we do need to find a way to break teams down when they pack their boxes.

Just one of those nights lads. Absolutely frustrating as can be. Not helped by a non existent central midfield. Them 2 today were pure shite.
There's gonna be plenty of teams who pack their box against us, and as has been the case for years now, we really need to learn how to break them down. Or else we'll not touch that top 6. Hopefully, this will develop as the season goes on.
And just as I'm typing they score another one. And again, the CMs are fucking ghosts.

@pete0 tonight is a prime example of us missing Gana. You can dress it up anyway you like but the ability he had to break up play and get interceptions meant I’m confident that with him instead of Schneiderlin would have led to a  different result (assuming we could finish). 

Don’t disagree mate. But I’m 5.8’ and I won headers against players 4” bigger all the time, just simply by being brave and jumping early (Timmy Cahill taught me that). How does he lose so many headers?
You know what, I'm being unfair, he’s stepping up a league and needs time to realise he isn't going to be given free headers for being bigger. He’ll get there.

Yeh that's a fair point but Keane was 1 v 1 with the striker a lot, a situation he will be in regularly every game but he barely won a header, barely made a tackle or barely did anything. Midfielders should always be dropping in but they are 2 v 3 against the Villa lads too so if they drop in front of Wesley then there are 2 more Villa players in space.
