Very good source - reassures me that £60m was a maximum bid for us.

Im a bit of a fence sitter with him. I think he improved a lot last year and started to look as though he was maturing as a footballer but £30million is a LOT of money.
I think its clear we are after someone who can beat a man and be direct when looking at the bids for both him and Zaha but I know I would much rather have the latter.

Time will tell. I made my first post very “well see” heavy because, as has been mentioned, he has a reputation as a good lad. 

I'm pleased that we haven't signed Zaha, for all that he could have arguably strengthened us the prices quoted were absolutely insane and even at the initial £40-50m mark I thought we were being a bit naive. When you consider Hirving Lozano, one of the hottest properties in Europe was signed by Brands at PSV for just £7.2 million you have to sit back and think about the value for money in these deals. 
Clubs from "B" tier leagues survive on buying cheap products from the likes of South America and selling them on for massive profit. An example is Eder Militao at FC Porto, signed for £3 million last summer and shipped off to Real Madrid last month for just over £50(m). The English league is mocked throughout the continent for its love affair with spunking money up the wall and it's hard to argue against it when you've got Harry Maguire and Wilfried Zaha touted at £80m players - just because they are proven in the Premier League. 
We should be looking at players from the continent who could do the same job (or better) for a fraction of the price. David Neres was my dream transfer from the start but he's just signed an extension with Ajax, although there will be others like him. 
As much as Palace were doomed without Wan-Bissaka and Zaha it'll be interesting to see how the latter reacts as it's been confirmed already that he's seriously fallen out with the board. If he throws a tantrum all season and fails to deliver, I expect them to be battling relegation big time. Hope he boycotts the game on Saturday too!

I think if they hadn’t sold Bassaka they wouldn’t want so much for him. Now they’ve got cash in the bank they can push it as they don’t need the money. 
I think he will be great for us if we can get him in though. 

Worry at that price is if he comes and doesn't settle in the North again we'd take a  massive hit if he wants to move back to London. 
As a player I think he'd take us up a step but there's too much risk at £80+m. 
 

I prefer to think of it as becoming more specialised

Am I paying the money? No.
Must I emotionally detach myself from the monies bring paid these days and just look solely at what the player can add to the starting 11? Yes.

Yeah, same with me except I like what I have seen. But I've not always been a great judge and I don't watch any where near as much footy as I used to, even highlights, at least last season anyway, so I'm having to trust the powers that be. My knowledge is slowly minimising!!!

See, I don’t get what he will bring that we don’t already have. But, since I’ve not watched him week in and out, going only on highlights or when he’s played against us, I’ll hold on passing a final judgement and look forward to being very wrong

So after our window closes, pretty much the whole of Europe has a further three weeks business. It could look like we are stockpiling players for certain positions at the minute. But marcel the magician could make half the squad disappear in three weeks time. Have faith

At least we only have to wait until 5pm (well 7pm really) for any news, instead of 11pm.

This makes a lot of sense. Judging by the Palace forum the tide is certainly turning against him now. I'd be a surprised if he played against us even if he stays so from that perspective we've accomplished something already.
