It's an ok game with nothing exceptional from either.

Gayle causing us more problems than he should.

More concerning, our attacking play is causing us more problems! Final third play has been shocking at times. Where you'd expect to see a player attack a gap, make a move, or just show some instinct with each other...they don't!

The synergy isn't there a lot of the times. That's not just based on tonight...its repeated game after game.

I've been a backer of Martinez. At the moment I'm pissed off with him.

But see shit like this? This pisses me off more.

Is this by the same fans who paid to fly a banner stating 'Kenwright Out'? Is it the same fans that have heckled Stones, Barkley and Howard?

I sometimes wonder what a section of our 'fans' are upto.

I'm assuming a post like this is going on numerous forums trying to drum up support. To have 700 odd signatures after 8 hours is piss poor.

Let's just try and get behind the team as we chase some elusive silverware and then we can fight it out at the end of the season.

We all just need to respect each others opinions on this one. I don't think, reading all the comments, that anyone is too wrong...that includes Mike with his 84 belief, Chach with his full backing, Chalkpie, MC, Haf et al in the strong minded get him out camp. Everyone has a valid input on this one...which is unusual on a forum!

The only thing I read on this topic that I find myself disagreeing with are the calls to sack him now...we still have an FA Cup to go for and we'd all love to fun that. And we have 24 points to go for. So sacking him now will do nothing for us when we still have something to go at. I'm also not keen in the Moyes calls. But that's a different story.

We are that inconsistent on the pitch these days that it wouldn't surprise me if we won 8 on the bounce, or lost 8 on the bounce (closer to one than the other at the moment!). But that's one of Roberto's issues, isn't it?

I had a look at the Kendal 80's situation hoping it would make me feel more 'assured', more confident that he could pull this around. I was only born in 82 so obviously that era is null in my mind. Looking at it has only made me feel worse! Sorry Mike! Would like to explain more...but got to get back to the grind. Bloody mental today!!!

Dunno about paranoid. He's probably thinking to himself that he could do without the extra pressure! But it is what it is...fix it!

There's certainly hints from the players body language when we went 1-0 at Utd that there is a lack of belief now creeping into the camp. Either that they wouldn't be able to turn it around, or a 'oh no here we are again' fed up type reaction.

I agree though that Moshiri presence will bring a new weight of expectation. But who knows? Maybe Moshiri will talk to Martinez and think 'actually, if I give this man a few quid he can complete this jigsaw...if this style only works with a better standard of player, I'll give him those players'. No one knows.

At the end of the day, results matter. If Martinez can't get the results that the club demand, then he has to go. He needs a large slice of the 24 points left to play for.

I must admit I feel a bit gutted at this situation. I've always held Martinez in high regard. Always admired the way he talks about the game, the way he likes to play the game. I've always thought that Martinez was a great fit for this club with his personality and aura. And let's be honest, he has done a lot of good stuff here. But results count. There's a lot of alarming things going off recently that is more than a one off and is making the milk go sour.

Whatever happens, I hope it works out for him one way or another, now or in the future. Maybe he needs to be sacked to realise he needs to be more versatile in his approach? To learn lessons? I hope we can build our success together, but if we have to take separate paths, then so be it.

Disappointed to read that about Baines. It's not the worse thing anyone could have said. But I guess by Martinez reaction that he is feeling the pressure.

I can imagine that Baines is sorry for saying those words publicly as he isn't the type who likes to draw attention but I'm sure he meant what he said. Although it was straight after a crap defeat to Utd...the best time for a journo to ask questions!

From Martinez view, I suppose it's attention that he could have done without just now.

We haven't yet finished 12th and Moshiri hasn't pumped millions into the club.

Too many people are talking as if the season has finished and we are kind of 'in the future looking way back'. It hasn't and we aren't. Like it or not, we still have an FA Cup to play for and 24 points to fight for. And that will be done under Martinez.

I'd love us to win the FA Cup. Every Evertonian wants us to win the FA Cup. So let's hope it happens and then we can argue the rest at the end of the season.

Yes, I've calmed a bit and a bit if rational thought is coming back!!!

It's unfair to hang this lad out.

He's not being given a chance. A few minutes here and there. You've got no chance of settling into a rhythm.

Judge him when he's played a few games. Proper games.

Frustrated. Again. And for the first time all of my frustration is felt towards Martinez.

The team went 1 down because LVG changed Uniteds play. Our players at that point looked like they had already lost. They looked like they had no belief that they'd get back in the game.

    And that's Martinez que.

Fair enough, Mirrallas comes on. But then to just sit and wait...and wait...and wait until 87 minutes to make your next move is just shambolic. Players aren't just suddenly going to start creating chances when they have struggled for much of the game. Players who have struggled to hold onto the ball, to string 2 passes together etc aren't just suddenly going to turn it on. If their having a bad game, get them off.

For the very first time I am 100% pissed off at Martinez. Not because we lost...but because I don't feel he did enough to get us back into the game.

I don't know. I'm just angry today anyway to be honest.

Yeah. I understand what you're saying. And you know what Chalkpie, it's good to have opposite views to someone but still be able to chat away in an amicable manner.

And that post Lowensda posted (won't quote it...takes up half a page!) makes quite an impact.

Why wait until the end of the season? Well, for me...because I've said it all along. Plus we still have the FA Cup...which is very important to us considering we've won nothing for 20 years...and, factually, we could still finish in a decent place. I've gone over this already.

And if your reading this and your the type of person who doesn't like it...tough shit. It's a forum where everyone has their own views. If you can't handle people having different views to you...go sit in a little room and chat away to yourself.

Nobody knows for sure how this season will end. There's a big difference between finishing 6th and winning FA cup and finishing 12th with nothing. One keeps you your job for sure, the other almost certainly loses you your job. Anything in between should be reviewed on its own basis.

My honest thoughts just now? Roberto has a fight on his hands to keep his job. The balls in his park as they say.

Where I am with Martinez now is that I'm thinking to myself...if it was me, I'd be going back to that first season in charge, looking at how good it was and asking the players who have been around in both eras (Howard, Jags, Coleman, Baines, Ossie, Pienaar, Gibson, not Barkley or Stones...Too young!)...what have I done that has changed us from that first season? What part of my 'philosophy' has caused an issue? At the end of the day, this is pretty much the same set of players that he had back then.

I'm frustrated with Martinez. Really frustrated. Because I believe he has the ability...but we are seeing and saying the same things over and over.

We've seen this team deliver some exceptional performances this season. Which gives you hope. But then we see the same mistakes time and again. And I've always said that it is important to me that we see some evolution...well we are in terms of attacking play, buy we aren't in terms of defensive play. And we aren't in terms of playing at home. And, as it stands, we aren't in terms of getting the points that our play deserves. There's only so many times in a season you can call a ref's decision, a linesman's decision, an injury, a bit of bad luck...it wears thin.

Martinez needs to evolve himself. The potential is there, no doubt. But he needs to start showing that he, we, are learning from these games. Not just for 1 or 2 games at a time, but consistently.

As for the players, well, I start wondering if they really are the top 4 quality that they keep going on about. And I wonder if they are believing too much in the hype. But that's another story.

I'm not interested in scoring personal points with anyone over Martinez. If he proves not to be good enough, then so be it. He gets sacked. Whatever is best for the club comes well above my personal opinions.

As I've said all along, we'll see at the end of the season. It could still end up being a good season just as much as it could end up being a poor season. I still find that quite bizarre to be honest, quite a unique situation that I can't remember feeling before with Everton!!!

Yeah...I said "strongest team we could have put out"...as in, out of those available.
Besic has been a machine in most of his games. It's so easy to use say afterwards 'oh, he wasn't fit'. Clearly he wasn't up to it today.

Before the game, I doubt many would have picked a different line up.

EDIT: Even you picked this exact starting 11 in your match day thread!!!
