Came on with 70 minutes to go, got by Steven Whittaker a couple of times to put a cross in but there weren't a lot of people in the box. He took his goal well. Peter H Posted September 10, 2013 Report Share Posted September 10, 2013 Both Coleman and McCarthy have been good so far against Austria. One thing that strikes me about McCarthy is his movement. He makes it easy for his team to pick him out. Something that both Distin and Jagielka should benefit from. He is comfortable on the ball, picks out his team mates in a good way. Ireland are going long at every opportunity towards Long, Keane and Walters and none of them are having a lot of success at keeping the ball up. McCarthy hasn't shone as the midfield is being bypassed constantly and Coleman hasn't been able to get forward either because they can't keep the ball up the field. Peter H Posted September 10, 2013 Report Share Posted September 10, 2013 Austria have not been great either, pretty boring match really but you cant say that Coleman and McCarthy are making any mistakes. Both been stable and i think McCarthy is showing himself well. Coleman had a couple of good runs. Weather isnt helping much. One thing about McCarthy that needs to be fixed is that he sells himself in a few sequences. Goes all in on the ball holder instead of just defending the space.
