Hafnia
would have been good to know the size of the survey population, but certainly many of the comments I agree with. 2.2% voted its a worse style under Martinez so I think the poplualtion was 1000, leaving 22 people who took the survey with no idea whatsoever. weebittight
We didn't get the points we deserved in the first few games. Still capable of having a bad day at the office but I can only see positives. I wanted Martinez as manager long before The Ginger Wizzard announced his intention to leave. Hafnia
The league table based on what we "should have got" would see us joint top IMO. A stone wall penalty which Baines never claimed for (grrrrr) against Cardiff would have seen us steal the points there. Against Norwich we should have easily won but hey ho. City game was one that whilst I think we didn't deserve to win couldn't help but think that the referee deflated us to the point we couldn't fight the way I wanted us to. I would have added the Baggies game to the ones you mention but they have since proved themselves to be a decent outfit an perhaps deserve a bit of credit. Avinalaff
Season so far? Let's take the 'we love Bobby' glasses off first of all, and remember we are Everton, not Wigan. 3 draws, 3 wins, 1 loss, and no League Cup. 2 big teams out of the way, and still in touch of where we want to be. Over all, I'm fairly underwhelmed at only having 12 points from the games we've played, and feel we have let opportunities pass us by, while other teams are also struggling. Maybe it's a case of there being no easy games in the Prem anymore. Our performances have been a mixture of brilliance and sloppiness, and we need to find some consistency. Under Moyes, we played some great stuff in the last few years, and I don't think we are at that level yet, as the difference with last years team was not having a goal scorer. Our defence was excellent, and we still had Baines and Coleman flying up and down the wings. Our possession was very good, but our success up front wasn't ideal. Under Martinez, our defence is not as reliable. Our midfield will need time, and our attack looks better, especially our counter attacks. I'm still optimistic though, and prepared to let things run their course before judging. Not everything that happens on the pitch is down to a manager, so the players need to step up. So far this season, we have had some poor performances from key players, and we need that to improve. Baines, Mirallas, Gibson, Osman all need to step up. Like Naismith or not, his performances this season have been full of energy and effort, and I'd like to see that rub off on a few others. Hopefully by Christmas we will have settled a bit more, and still be in contention. Liverpool look ok this season, and will no doubt back it up again in January, and United will be back on track soon. It all reminds me a bit of a long distance track race. Nobody is particularly getting involved at the front, but when it matters, the quality competitors will make their move, and we need to be there. Guest
We should be at least four pints better off but that's life. I think Liverpool a overrated again as they have only played middle to lower placed teams and think they will come unstuck once the big boys play them. I think our first eleven is a match for spurs and arsenal so I can see us right in the mix this season

Dalziel Kane
Far too early to be making judgments for this season, there's so much more to come, but hitherto it's been an adequate season. Did well to get a point at Norwich, West Bromwich are no pushovers for example, and could have taken a point at Manchester City if the referee hadn't be so fucking biased. The biggest concern would seem to be the early elimination from the League Cup competition. Martinez put out a strong side but could have reinforced things a little more and there seemed to be a certain apathy at times and we suffered an early elimination as a result of things. Hasn't been the best of starts, hasn't been too bad. But would much rather wait until further on in this season before we can make proper evaluations. Cornish Steve
Honestly, it's not much more than personal opinion cloaked in unduly flowery language by an obvious fan. I'd much prefer to read an objective assessment from a skeptic.
Hafnia
Honestly, it's not much more than personal opinion cloaked in unduly flowery language by an obvious fan. I'd much prefer to read an objective assessment from a skeptic. Unless any stats can be offered that counter his, nothing other than a certain element of praise even by the most ardent critics standards. I'm not going to fall into the trap of "I like martinez, so therefore will back him no matter what" - nothing irritates me more than that approach, seen it far too often on this site, when he is due criticism he should get it both barrells - its Everton I support, not the manager, chairman or a certain player. I do feel that he may need to get us to be a little nastier - not cheating, not whinging but not prepared to take the negative consequences of gamesmanship lying down. Seen it a few times already this season and I want to see more bite from Roberto and the players. We will quickly become the "easier option to disappoint" when referees are left with a decision to make. The penalty at Cardiff, the nonsense at Man City - lets see the players stand up and oppose this. Lets see Martinez make a comment that is seen as "out of character" - take a £5k fine. Martinez is at a club where othe rmanagers like Moyes, Rodgers, AVB will try and apply some mind games - belittle us, try and take advantage of the nice guy - moyes has tried this already... Get at them! From a footballing perspective there is very little to criticise, a little bit of steadying up at the back, a few players need a kick up the backside - Jags, Mirallas - Baines to be fair also. I knew has was going to be a shrewd appointment, however I didn't expect to see such a rapid progression in style change. Look at managers historically who have tried this and failed - they need time. So all in all 8/10 for me. I do however look forward to reading a statistical based argument that counters the positives - all balance is welcome. Popular Post Steve_E
We've got 15 points after 8 games, exactly the same amount as we did last year, which was one of the best starts to the season in Moyes' reign. So I looked at the games we've played this season and compared the results to the comparable game last year: Norwich away, 1 point this season (0 last season) West Brom home, 1 point this season (3 points last season) Cardiff away, 1 point this season (0 points in Reading away last season, winner of the Championship the year before) Chelsea home, 3 points this season (0 points last season) West Ham away, 3 points this season (3 points last season) Newcastle home, 3 points this season (1 point last season) Man City away, 0 points this season (1 point last season) Hull home, 3 points this season (3 points last season against Southampton, second in the Championship the year before). Which means we have 15 points now compared to 11 points last season from comparable games. We were eliminated in the third round of the League Cup both years, against Fulham this season, Leeds last season. markjazzbassist, marcus jones, Sibdane and 2 others
Sibdane
That's a very good statistical read and provides a good deal of insight. Thanks! We've only done worse against City and West Brom (-3), but we've gained additional points from Newcastle, Norwich, Cardiff and Chelsea (+7).
