SmashedCrab
Really surprised to see alcaraz starting over Johnny! It won't happen, but I'd really like to see baines play in front of Oviedo

Shukes
That lad is on some kind of steroid surely.... He's just exploding the last four games. Takes a man on and releases an unstoppable shot into the top far corner. Beautifulgoal!
chicagoblue
Robles needs to eat his spinach. Kicking very underwhelming from him thus far
SmashedCrab
Impressed with alcaraz, looks a real Martinez style defender
Hafnia
Why did we put that out of play???
Shukes
Ye gotta admit I'm surprisingly impressed by Alcaraz's start to the match. Looks very tidy. Though he has had my heart in my mouth with a few very risky passes out of defence.
Shukes
Bot enjoying our usual possession. Can see we're missing Pienaar!
SmashedCrab
Bot enjoying our usual possession. Can see we're missing Pienaar! I agree, Oviedo is not giving baines many options. I really don't think he's a winger!

Steve_E
Remember when people were livid because we were linked with James McCarthy while we could have had Leroy Fer?
barryj
At least we've got the option of pienaar or mirallas later on. I think that will change things significantly and increase or attacking potential.
Shukes
Excellent running from McCarthy. Ovy Doesn't show like Pienaar either.we need someone to start looking for the ball.
Brett Angel
The good thing about this is we are going I n surely ahead with a good subs bench for the second half.
Shukes
Calm down big man. Distin panicks when he slices, needs compose himself. Oops here we go fight fightt
Shukes
Not a good half from the boys but a great goal from Coleman. Too many nervy moments and chances foe themand were not creating enough. Missing Pienaar today and his creative movement. Looks like we can step up a gear though and we do have a decent bench. thoward18
Pleasantly surprised with Alcaraz. He's been very calm and deliberate in the back.
Brett Angel
Lalana's getting it in the tunnel. Bet he wishes he hadn't done that to distin so close to half time whistle. He'll run down that tunnel behind Ricky 'the red shite' Lambert.
Brett Angel
We have played one through ball behind the centre halves all season. This was against Newcastle when lukaku threaded in Barkley. This amazes me that we don't practice this more on the training pitch. Why is it that we have to play the ball wide constantly? We become too predictable sometimes. chicagoblue
markjazzbassist
i've got 5 pounds on distin winning that fight, he's a foot taller and quite a bit more fit than lallana. great first half, glad to see us up early. i'll take back my oviedo at left mid campaign, y'all were right, he's a left back and not a winger. naismith is active and getting some decent passes in. i'm really impressed with alcaraz, great passing out the back and movement, good defending as well. chicagoblue
Well. Thank fuck for Coleman. We've been nowhere so far. Feels like no possession, lack of control, misplaced passes and poor touches all over the pitch. Ossie is doing okay, but he just doesn't have the assurance and passing range that Barry brings. Combination of Oviedo and Naismith is too much energy and not enough finesse. Should have been one of them from the start, not both. Stevie P should come on soonish to give us some calm and time on the ball. At the back the new lad looks suited, been more worried about Distin so far. Alcaraz certainly doesn't lack confidence, if he can match his ability to step around a man with a better pass we'll have something potent on our hands. Bailey
Very good half considering. We havent created an awful lot but we were never going to against Soton who are very solid defensively. As usual we have worked our way into some decent positions, usually when we have forced them into a mistake but not made the most of it. Alcaraz has come in and been excellent which doesnt surprise me tbh and Baines looks as if he is just starting to warm to the task. Oviedo is putting in a shift but he is very one dimensional and doesnt offer the passing options of our main wingers. Osman is playing nicely which is good to see and hopefully he can keep this up. Robles has done what he has had to do but needs to brush up his kicking! chicagoblue
Steve_E
I enjoyed both teams' football so far. We've been caught in possession a couple of times, but I like how we're really stretching the field and forcing them to cover huge spaces, considering their defensive pressure up front is their best form of attack this season.
