I think he's been solid. For an 18-year-old, he's been superb. His movement is excellent, in addition to all the other positives you guys have been pointing out. My only qualms with his play are things likely to be ironed out with age and maturity (mental and physical). He can be a bit lightweight and lacking in awareness with the ball sometimes, so he loses possession a bit too often (or, at least, I notice it). He can also be a bit erratic out there. He needs to slow it down sometimes for the sake of his teammates. But, the good thing is that his downsides are mostly a product of him working hard and caring. Once he fills out and figures out how to measure his game a bit, he's going to be a very good player.

Last I checked, women don't belong to anyone. Nobody knows what happened with Barkley and the aforementioned girl just yet. But, she can make her own decisions. It's not Ross's fault that he talked to someone who somebody else claims ownership of. Now, if he was friends with the guy, this is perhaps a different story (violating friendship norms). But, what it looks like is that some assclowns were up in arms over the fact that one of "their birds" was taken with Barkley and one of them took it out on him. Either way, this should, first, be cause for a conversation between the two partners and, second, an occasion for the guy claiming possession to look inward and see what a pud he is.

Everything Barkley fucked up today looked to be the product of a player trying too hard to be the match winner. He had blinders on. He was too emotionally invested in the game. As a fan, you want the players to be invested. But, he played entirely without composure, just like in the derby at Goodison. Koeman or someone out there needs to make sure he's calmed down. Barkley was abysmal today, but it wasn't for lack of skill or lack of trying. I think we all remember playing with that one person who played like they had a point to prove some days and were the worse for it. You want that kind of arrogance, but you don't want it at the expense of the team. For me, it's a coaching/leadership issue. You need to recognize the problem and get them out of their own head and back to playing football.

I'm sick of seeing Valencia come on instead of Lookman. Offers little more than energy and he's not our player.

I think Lookman is this good. Once he starts playing smarter (rather than trying to do the spectacular in his own half, for instance), he will be a hell of a player.

The difficulty in January isn't only locating the best targets. I'm quite sure we've located players we would like to have here. The difficult part is finding the combination of a player we like and a club willing to sell mid-season. We didn't let our best performers go in the middle of the season. Why would we do that? Why would any club either pushing for a spot high in the table or in fear of relegation let their best players go right in the heat of things? Good January buys (from what I've seen) come from a handful of situations: The player is surplus to requirements or desperately wants away. The selling club isn't likely to suffer without the player. The selling club isn't in contention for big rewards or at the risk of big losses in their league. The selling club is skint and has needs at other positions. Or, the selling club is skint or of a lower division and is always willing to accept good money for a player while they have them.

In other words, there are a multitude of factors (most of which are on the side of the potential selling club) that make January a difficult window to secure signings even if you have targets. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you get nothing. And sometimes you pay way over the odds because you're in need.

I'm happy that we had a conservative January in terms of spending, even though the squad has been left a bit thin. Hopefully, this means that we can worry more about securing signatures in the summer and less about offloading the contracts of surplus players.

He isn't great at whipping crosses in, but he certainly isn't bad at standing one up to the back post.
