This might sound stupid but isn't that what we have been doing for years and years? Besic is young but he is going to be playing in the first team with Lukaku so they're not really ones for the future as they're for the present.

Galloway is going to be playing in reserves but apart from that not sure which other people we can say would get in the Everton team in a couple of years who we have bought this transfer market?

I'm not disagreeing with you just wondering that's all. I do know what you mean that we will have a young squad but we will always be buying new players who can walk straight into the first team squad as well. I don't think I am getting my point across well here either.

I guess I mean yes we can buy youngsters in for the U21 squad and try to build for the future but at the same time we will always be buying more players who can walk into the first team straight away which at will also halt players progress. Like when we got rid of Fellaini - we get McCarthy, Barry. Jelavic - Kone, Lukaku, Traore. Also out of the U18, U21 squad most of them are English (which is great) but how many would get into the first team in 3 years time? I don't know a lot about the U21, U18 but when Rodwell, Rooney, Barkley, Vaughan and Baxter were all progressing there was a lot of hype surrounding each of them but I haven't heard anything else about anyone.

Maybe it is just me being cynical but I just don't see anything changing drastically in the next 3 years except a few players getting into the first team but apart from that we would still be relying on transfers.

    P.S
I think I have just talked a lot of winny wanny there, trying to get my point across but failing.

Whenever I watched Gibson play I was really impressed. If you look at him he looks around before he gets the ball and then pings it to them with precision. Great player if he can stay fit...

I think if Van Gaal played him properly he would have a similar role as to what Yaya Toure has an City. (Not saying he is as good as Toure because he quite clearly isn't). Yet he could be that type of influential player for United.

If we sign a striker I think it will be Traore on loan. I would be happy with that to be honest. Get Traore and Atsu on loan and we look to have a good team for Europa and league.

I wouldn't mind Martinez going for someone like Zaha or Hernadez from United. Could potentially get one of them on loan....

bluenosetoffee got a reaction from Steve_E in Hatem Ben Arfa
I wouldn't want him at the club, just had a quick search on him and these are some of his past instances....

"While at Clairefontaine, he was a part of A la Clairefontaine, a documentary series which chronicled the lives of some of France's top young footballers during their time at the academy.[9][10] During the series, an episode showed Ben Arfa getting into an argument with Abou Diaby"

"Despite rumors of a rift between himself and Benzema, Ben Arfa signed a contract extension with Lyon in March 2008 until 2010.[24][25] However, his career at Lyon reached an impasse after he got into a training session scuffle with veteran Sébastien Squillaci"

"Similar to his actions in leaving Lyon, Ben Arfa responded to the statement by telling the French sports newspaper L'Equipe that he would not be returning to La Commanderie, Marseille's training facility, and would not play with the team for the remainder of the season.[66][67] He also stated that his relationship with Deschamps had turned sour and was beyond repair.[68][69] Ben Arfa confirmed his intentions by travelling to Newcastle upon Tyne, without authorization, with hopes that Newcastle and Marseille would come to an agreement.[70] After returning to Marseille, he missed several training sessions with his parent club and was, subsequently, left off the match day squad for two league matches against Valenciennes and Lorient.[71] Ben Arfa's number 10 was later given to new signing André-Pierre Gignac, which signaled a transfer was imminent"

I realize that anybody can copy and paste but to me he seems to bring trouble wherever he goes, either with the manager, chairman or players. I don't think I would want a player like him at our club. I haven't even mentioned the Newcastle incident with him and Pardew....

Even if he was 1.5 - 3 million, would you want him at the club?

bluenosetoffee reacted to RuffRob in CL via Top 4 or Europa
Well, that's the arguement - Is 4th place or Europa Cup the harder task in hand? Not sure I agree top 4 spot is a lot easier. It could equally be argued that both are beyond our capabilities and punching above our weight. and a tad arrogent to think we could do either - But that's what we need to strive for - a bit of gatecrashing!!.

I am not underestimating the Europa leauge - But this seaosn there are two possible routes for Everton to get in to the CL next season - top 4 or win the Europa cup.

How ofter do any teams outside the 5-6 big spenders get in to the top 4 CL spot. I would say that Everton are the only club to manage that; the once.(So a once every 10 -12 year hit rate for any 'poorer' club). When Spurs, Leeds or Newcastle have managed it, they had paid to get there.

Middlesbrough and Fulham got to the final of the Europa Cup in 2006 and 2010 respectiely (two none top 5-6 big spending clubs have managed it in the last 8-9 years (so a once every 4-5 year hit rate).

On this evidence you could argue that getting to a Europa Cup final is slightly easier than getting in to the top 4 if you don't have the spending power. I don't think anybody would argue that the current Everton squad is a lot better than both the Middlesbrough or Fulham teams. OK, both fell at the final hurdle. But as mentioned earlier I would take a spot in the final now and take my chances.

Martinez does have some pedigree in Cup football, who would have bet on Wigan in a FA Cup final agaist Man City.

bluenosetoffee reacted to Steve_E in Pre Season: SC Paderborn 07
I know that there is virtually no correlation between preseason performance and regular season performance, but the fact that we have played so horribly does add to this bad feeling I have that our preseason has been a complete mess. From just playing the five games in the entire preseason, to a number of players missing time due to carrying knocks, to some of our most important players simply not having any preseason at all really. It's definitely got me worried. Schürrle played in the World Cup final and he's played for Chelsea in their preseason btw. Let's just hope that Martinez turns out to be smarter than everyone else and his ideas on condition turn out to be the right ones...

That's your opinion and I have mine. I suppose we 'll see who is right come the end of next season.

One thing for sure though, if we don 't bring at least 3 more players in loan or otherwise we're going to struggle to cope with the extra games. Right now we're virtually in the same position we were at the Hull game end of last season.

This made me laugh, "dubbed" the next Jack Wilshere! Don't get my wrong Wilshere has shown potential in the past but the last two seasons he has been distinctly average. I do hate it when players get "dubbed" the next best thing. They aren't the "next" anything they are their own footballer.

Hi Ben, I really don't want to sound harsh and I am happy you have chosen everton as your preferred team but I have never fathom how someone can just pick a team and start supporting them.

It's either drilled into you or an experience has made this choice for you.

Supporters really do baffle me nowdays. When I was young I never listened or toll on board anything my dad said but due to him supporting everton and me being around that experience I was hooked. It's like something you cannot choose. I could have taken a easier more smug, glory hunting path when I was younger and followed man utd or liverpool for that matter but it chooses you.

I think Ross spoke well of the club, he is nervous but he spoke highly of the club, the players and the manager/staff. If you're nervous and get asked a question so what influence did the manager have on you signing a new contract. Barkley spoke highly of him and they said yeah everybody says that but what do you really think. Give the kid a break, he is up and coming and a lot of top clubs were interested. It is GREAT news that he has signed a new contract!
