Oh mate, that's horrible news. Really don't know what to say. If you need support, just ask and we will do what we can. 

Very sad to read this John, after sixty-three years together it must be heartbreaking.
Can I suggest that maybe you sign up for the Macmillan online community here https://community.macmillan.org.uk/
Very supportive place, there are groups for different types of cancer and cancer experiences so you'll be able to get specific help for whatever you both are going through and maybe more info on the pros and cons of treatment. It's very difficult to take in when you're first told so stepping back and talking to people who've been through it, or similar, can be very helpful.
My mum was diagnosed at about the same age and she refused treatment, hard but we accepted it; she chose quality of life over quantity so we just set about making the time she had left the best it could be.

So sad to hear your about your wife’s illness John, you will both be in all our thoughts mate I’m sure. I don’t know how or what advice I could give you to make this easier, reading Mike’s post if it was me I would seek the help available he mentioned, I hope they would be able to give you the best advice and direction for all the family and help with all the questions you must have.

It will be a real test for both of you, but I feel sure "her indoors" will be so grateful for your support in the coming weeks and months. 63 years is an extraordinary number and demonstrates the commitment you both have to each other - during the good times and the less good.
