You missed a word. I said "ANY want away player." He's a special kind of a want away player in that him putting in a request has shocked us all what with his performance and silence up to this point as well as his youth and general demeanor. There's no way of knowing how he'll act but there's nothing to indicate that he'll cause any ruckus. None of us know him, but more than likely this was agitated by his agent and if RM and Kenwright who, for are their faults, seem to be personnel masters (like how the fuck did they really convince Mirallas to stay and then sit him most of the first three games?), sit down with Stones personally and let him know where the club is and that they'll likely move him next summer, it seems Stones is likely to accept it and play on, at least until the January window. It's just too goddamn late with a defense as short-handed as ours.

Stones isn't any want away player. He'll still play and he'll still play well. We say no. He's 21, he's never pouted and he's under contract for 4 more years. He has to understand that it is not in our best interest to sell him, and he will still go out there every week until at least January and defend well for us.

In a way I'm just glad it isn't Barkley, love him or hate him he's a local lad and an Evertonian and he will go all the way!

This. I'm shocked if the request was actually put in, especially because I'm sure Stones is well aware that that Martinez and Woods have both said there's no way we're selling now, Martinez going as far as to say that even if he puts in a transfer request he's still ours. Gutted that he would then test Everton's resilience by putting in a request anyway, but 100% we have to keep him until January at least. He'll still play, he'll still play well without the pressure of Chelsea, and we'll have 4 months to get in two replacements.

Not sure of this stuff aimed at 'BarnsleyFan'. Seems a bit OTT.

Having pops at the lad for his club being in League 1 and being bitter...then having pops at Chelsea for being plastic, buying success, having no history etc. Who sounds bitter?

If Stones goes, it will be gutting. As gutting as it was for Barnsley fans when he left them. Stones made a natural progression from them to us. He MIGHT now make another natural progression.

I really really really wish football business was different. I really really really wish that we could hold onto these obvious young talents and head into the top 4 causing a footballing revolution and proving that it can be done. But money talks. And we don't have any. Our players know that and our fans know that (read the board thread...but somehow we still act shocked when this happens!). So given the chance, players will make that jump if given the chance to. It's fuckin annoying as a fan, but it's also 'real life'.

IF he has handed in a request, let him go and get every last penny we can get.

IF he does go. Wish him well and thank him for being a good player for this club.

IF it all goes through, and you ever see his agent, Jose or any of these rag journalists in the street...Rip their bollocks right off and stamp on them.

    That's all.

I see the linesman who allowed Liverpool's 'offside' goal is running the line for our game against City. As he's obviously a Liverpool fan it doesn't bode well for us.!

Pienaar is a different type of wide player than McGeady or Mirallas etc. He does a lot of his work with his back to goal, 1-2s & triangle passes. However he is still a wide player. You will almost always find him hugging the wing under Moyes & Martinez.... Quality player when fit.

Going back to this little caveat, the aftermath of the Heysel Stadium Disaster and Thatcher's/UEFA's ban of English Clubs took a particular toll on Everton. Everton were officially banned from the European Cup in the 1985-1986 and 1987-1988 seasons, from the European Cup Winners' Cup in the 1986-1987 season, and from the UEFA Cup in the 1988-1989 season.

The thing is though, Newty, then you'll have fans saying "the windows closed now so there's nothing we can do about it, so don't worry" or "let's wait until January and see how we're doing then and what players we bring in". When we did fuck all last January even though we needed to do something it was "there's no value in the January window so let's wait and see what we do in the summer". Well, the summer is here now and we're fucking this up too.

There's always an excuse trotted out whenever fans get anxious. Not saying it's you btw, just pointing it out that you can write the script now.

I believe Martinez can get us to the Champs league if he gets the signings we need.

I think Martinez knows that without a genuine playmaker he cannot play the system he wants to, we lack the creative outlet to open up defenses and it shows.

So he plays McCarthy and Barry in midfield instead of just one of them, as a result we are too defensively minded, we don't have the players in attacking positions to keep the attack going, or the number 10 who can orchestrate them. Attacks stall, we have loads of possession but no penetration.

I'll judge Martinez when he has had a chance to get the players in he needs.

Howard Kendall always said "It takes 3 years to build a team" - with Broke Blue Bill in charge it may take considerably longer.

yeah i agree. if we played direct and by that i don't mean hoofball, i mean fast paced movement from front to back with an emphasis on getting it into the box and taking a shot regardless of amount of possesion. plus if we had someone that cared about defense and set pieces i'm sure that's at least 9 points added right there.

You can invest plenty in youth. It guarantees nothing.
Only around 2% of the youth players at premier league clubs will actually make a career in high level football.
You have to supplement the youth with first team players. Or to put it more accurately you have to supplement first team players with youth.

But we aren't saving first team money to plough it into youth. I don't know where you got that idea from.

No one is demanding instant success. Just demanding to compete with our peers.
