Haf, I see your points. I do. The general style of play for large chunks of the season has been hard to watch, he did lose the dressing room at one point, and he is stubborn to a fault a lot of the time.
However, I would count this season as a wild success. Romey just posted in the longest thread, but when you consider everything happening off the pitch and even STILL we're in 15th with 3 games to spare?
He deserves all the praise for what he's accomplished

I agree with those who are championing have a bit of stability in the management department. At the moment there is very little continuity at this club, so wouldn't change the management team unless we absolutely have to.
I think Dyche has done much better than most of the managers we have had in the Moshiri period with much fewer resources and he's had a lot more issues and problems to deal with. Not a high benchmark I must admit, but there has and very much still is over ridding reasons why managers struggle here. I wouldn't doubt any replacement manager coming would find the Everton job easy.
I don't think there have been that many bad performances (5-6 maybe), they may not have been asthetically pleasing, but most haven't been stinkers, I still think we actually deserved more wins/draws that we have ended up with to date. I don't think we have been riding our luck in the games in which we have got results, most points won have been deserved. In an alternative universe when point deductions don't exist and you get a little be more of the rub of the green, we could have just as easy have been in a push for a European spot. Just off the top of my head I still don't understand how Fulham, Wolves and Luton stole 9 points off us at home in the first few weeks of the season - Boom, just considering those 3 games and no points deduction - performance wise we could easily be sitting 8th with 50 points. All ifs and buts, but we have not been far off getting the points West Ham and even Newcastle has to there name this season.
If we hadn't be artificially 'stuck' in the relegation zone all season, there would be very little talk of swapping Dyche out next season.

I'd much rather he was our manager next season than not. The following season is another question.
Things don't look like they're going to be any easier for us next season (in terms of off field stuff) so I'd prefer to keep the stability going. We absolutely cannot get relegated any time soon and he's the safest option to make that a reality.
That doesn't mean he's a guarantee but I think it's too risky to get shut in the summer.

Matt Tiger got a reaction from MikeO in Motm vs Kopites 24.04.2024 Home
Agree with Matt, it genuinely could've been anyone... I'm usually brief, but I want to highlight a few players that I usually critique moreso than others that I thought were about perfect today:
Godfrey has been an extremely tough watch defensively for quite some time, and he was immense today not only in winning challenges and going forward but most importantly in being exactly where he needed to be on the back line. Immense perforamance and if not for DCL would be my MOTM.
McNeil / Harrison: Lumping these two together because they've both been frustrating in different ways this season but they finally tied it all together today (albeit with some frustrations from both). Their work rate is always excellent, and they have their moments going forward, but today they both absolutely tortured the shite digging back on the press and then going forward and maintaining possession just long enough to get the ball into the box and create danger. Dwight can drift, harrison can overdribble and turn it over, and they both did that occassionally today. But as a whole they were both pests and also dangerous going forward.
Garner is always quite composed and handles himself well in challenges in the midfield, but I think that he's mostly been overpraised as a passer and a controlling midfielder. I can't say enough about what he did today in that regard. In close quarters, his decision making between pass / extra touch was consistently good, and once he decided between those two options he was clinical.
Lastly, I'll just say that DCL was my MOTM because I'm not sure how you could draw up better hold up play than what he displayed today. Sure, he missed a goal early that he absolutely should've buried. But we played the same long balls to him that we've played all year and he consistently won possession, showed great touch with little space, and served as the engine for an attack that was miles away more dangerous than it had been all year.
Ok, end soliloquy. What a match, what a performance. UTFT.

Could've been anyone, but went with Godfrey because if he doesn't make that tackle, we don't come back.

Restricting them to long range efforts now. Generally dealing with them further up the pitch. Keep it up.

Klopp is always really good at adapting his tactics, we have to anticipate what he'll do and react to it. Probably beyond Dyche to do that but there you go.
Plus they fighting to win the league, there'll be an onslaught next half.
