Martinez appears to be a warm, sweet, humane fellow, who found in Everton a special club, and in Kenwright an owner who totally bought into his project, vision, and emerging football brilliance. As did I. I thought Martinez was a brilliant new mind, and that he and Everton made a highly promising pairing. His first season seemed to point in the direction of success -- European football and challenging for top 4 in the league.
 
Until the second half of this season, my main concern was whether injuries and inconsistent play would derail his project, because several emerging young stars would be tempted to go to a big club, and because Martinez would be unable to persuade them to have faith in his vision. Until the second half of this season, his public analyses of the team's performances were puzzling, irritating, but not a deal-breaker.
 
But in the last several months, I have reluctantly come to the view that Roberto's sweet personality has diverted (my) attention from the probability that, as a football mind, he is an utter fanatic, literally obsessed with his theories of how to play attractive football. Usually, or so I had thought, obsessed fanatics have a bit of the glint in the eye, a hardness, a sort of off-center look or personality. Roberto's smile is trustworthy, not off-center.
 
His words, though, gradually struck me as something more than an odd take on the reality of the team's play and results. His explanations became not quaint but bizarre. Then inaccurate. Then delusional. Then lies.
 
He now strikes me as an odd combination of a calm, warm, genuinely good human being, but a mad-scientist of a manager, obsessed with perfectionist theories detached from footballing reality. It appears he has yet to concede that his theories are not applicable to every assembled squad, including one that he continues to assemble. He will hope to persuade the owners to stick with his vision.
 
Whether they will think his vision genius or madness, I'm not sure, though he's clearly lost the fans, and many of the players. His promising project almost worked, maybe, but it's past the point of no return. I suspect the owners will by now have been unsettled by Martinez's repeated public self-humiliations.
 
I do wonder whether they will be thinking of the best way to save Roberto from himself. Undoubtedly Roberto doesn't think he needs saving. He's wrong.

Yep. I went off on one last night because, as I found out the hard way, the mental health team gave me the wrong meds. They gave me a lower dose than I usually have and it was why I went out of control. Normally I wouldn't say or do that shit. When I read that Bob was getting abuse off fans when he was with Beth, that made me angry because she has nothing to do with Everton. Leave her out of it. It's also why I hope we don't have the lap of honour, because the players have their kids with him, and how's Bob going to feel, with his daughter hearing hundreds of people shouting abuse at her dad? It would just be uncomfortable all around.
 
End of the day, there was a fuck up with my meds. Venlafaxine is a horrible, horrible drug to withdraw from. I was feeling very sick last night as well, so I knew something was wrong.
 
Managers are just people at the end of the day. I wouldn't want to be in Bob's brown shoes no matter how much he earns.

I hope Martinez never has a good night's sleep again. I hope he has a mental breakdown, ends up on anti-depressants or in the Priory, and is reduced to a miserable shell of a human being.

He's tried his best and it wasn't good enough, he managed to convince Kenwright he was the man he isn't.
Remove him after the Norwich game and move on. It's as simple as that isn't it?

That's the sad thing. Everyone I know who's met him has said he's lovely (yes, I know he's been an arse to some of the squad, but still). He does love football, he's been very classy about Hillsborough and the video of him and Margaret Aspinall was genuinely moving, and when he's not talking football and just talking about ordinary stuff like music or whatever, he comes across as very likeable.

I want to enjoy football and go back to Goodison again. I think I tend to take all the Twitter stuff at face value, like people saying they'd beat the shit out of Kenwright / Martinez supporters at matches.

What makes this harder is that Roberto seems like a genuinely fine human who loves the sport. I've got nothing against him as a person, but professionally he hasn't performed. I think, in a moment of candor, he'd tell you the same thing. I think he'd be best coaching in Spain.

He's been wasted this season.

You're being ridiculous because you're wishing illness on a man because, under his leadership, 11 men in a blue uniform aren't putting a little ball into a net more often than the other 11 men. Do you need more? Ok then - your hate for this man is at such a peak he's become a "thing" for you.

To be annoyed at a football manager is one thing. To hope he - by all accounts a perfectly nice human being - comes to harm is pathetic on your part and you might want to consider that maybe following a football team just isn't for someone like you.

Fucking hell, Barkley is one of my faves and I'll be so gutted if he leaves.

This is the dilema and why I am against booing players. I would hate for players like Barkley to think the fans were against him, we are not. If we force players like him who love the club to leave then it really says something about the state our club is in.
 
WE have to rally round the players without showing support for Martinez, the sooner he goes the better. The board must act on this.

I think we need one home game with him gone. We don't need the players leaving with a completely negative atmosphere in the back of their minds. Get rid ASAP, then let us send them off with a positive memory. If they have the summer thinking how horrible it is at Goodison, and it has been horrible and will be worse on Saturday, I don't think we'll see them all come back.

I'd rather have Rhino than Dunc in charge, tbh. Look at how well he's doing with the youth side!

He actually looks ill. It is best for all parties that he is relieved of his duties, all the anger and unrest is doing no one any good.

It's either win the cup and finish 7th/8th (a mark down on my pre season expectations!) with a strong run of results that show serious change or don't win the cup, finish around mid table with performances that show no change.

I don't know why Everton fans watch his pressers. It just makes them angry. We all know that Bob is a bullshitter. I only watch the bits where he talks about injuries. I give zero fucks about anything else he has to say because there's no point.
 
Bob needs to leave Everton for his own good. It's clearly getting to him. Not just his hair, but look at his fucking eyes. He's 42 and yet he's aged so much in only 3 years. Maybe it's cos he's got a toddler at home, I'm sure that doesn't help but he just looks exhausted. I wonder if he's just trying to delude himself now. No-one is buying it anymore.

He is a manager and is programmed not to promote a blame culture, it's basics.
To come out and put the blame on an individual in public would be morale destroying.
 
Interviewers are clever and ask questions they know will manipulate our thought process. That's all that has happened here.
 
Blame him for wrong tactics, bad substitutions, poor man management and his over zealous optimism, but the way he defends his team and players should be respected.
