If you look at this in perspective - How much movement of players actually happened in the transfer market - very little. Domestically Josh King arguably one if not the highest profile move.
You look at other possible realistic striker options - Zirkzee - but £15m for potential, but highly unlikely to add much to the here and now situation.
I was disappointed when I saw that Milik had moved to Marseilles, as he looks good on paper - I am guessing there might be reason we didn't go for him or he opted go else where - Given the timing of the King transfer my guess is that we couldn't go for him before we offloaded, and missed the boat - or Ancelotti simply not fussed on him. Will never know.
So we may have bagged the best option available on transfer deadline day.
Josh King has plenty of Premiership experience and he has lived (and I have read he still has a house here) in the North West, settling in should be as easier as you likely to get. Again, best you could hope for in January transfer brought in to do a instant job.
In the Premier league King is on very similar stats for goals and assists as Richarlison (OK - Richarlison has been a young and improving player where as King has been in him prime over the same period - but end raw end produce is on par with each other) - so that's not two shabby considering Richarlison has been one of our top scorers of the past two seasons!!.  I think Josh King breathing down Richarlison's neck for game time could well lead to a upturn in Richarlison's form - if he gets back to his best - there is good value in King being here for that alone.
Depending on who starts a game (King or Richarlison) - there should be a capable and hungry player coming off the bench and looking to prove a point.
A decent new signing usually breaths a bit of life in to a squad - there should be no doubt of our intentions for the second half of the season.
All things consider think, Kings arrival will improved the quality of the squad. He will never be on the top of anybody's wish list, but was probably the best option available to us. It was only around 12months ago some of the 'big' club where looking to sign him (apparently)
We have also acquired him on the last risk option available to us, and will be off the books in no time if he is no good, and we will no doubt get him to sign a longer contract if he turns out to be a great fit at the club.
I am looking forward to seeing what he can add.

I agree about a smaller squad, but it's even more important with fewer players to make sure they are good enough.
The casing point on this is the left and right back issues we have. You can say we have Nkounkou, Small etc but they didn't play when we had no left or right back. When subs were limited they didn't make the bench so they arent really first team options, at least not in Carlo's eyes.
I think we look very thin in all attacking positions. My view on Dom is that he still has very raw moments, Richarlison and Iwobi are massively inconsistent and you can file Gordon in the Niels/Small category of not being fancied. That leaves James, who will miss games between now and the end of the season, to do the heavy lifting and if that is the case, half decent sides will try their best to shut him down or kick him out of the game like they did today.
Finally I still only think we have two midfielders in that bunch that are worthy of the shirt week in week out. The others can come in and fill in a game here or there but we will struggle if they play every game.
There is certainly a core of players to build from but we need a lot more quality in the side IMO.

I think we would be better suited to bringing in a forward with more mobility.

Eden turns 35 in March, I know it's not all about age but Jesus fucking Christ. He was only ever a back-up at Manchester City and has been frozen out in Italy because he just isn't really that good. Amazing how (if reports are to be believed) we've gone from a young talent like Zirkzee to Dzeko.
Would more than likely demand six figure wages too, which just adds to the ageing deadwood that we're trying to get rid of. I'll absolutely lose my shit if this somehow turns into a swap deal with Bernard.

Who is available with Prem experience and a proven goal scorer in that league and is happy to be no.2 to DCL, who rarely gets injured?

So you buy someone who's better than DCl, DCL gets dropped and moves on to Man U, we are still stuck in the same position - just rotating money around. New player who replaces DCL could be shite - stuck with said player and an unhappy DCL or  a DCL who is now on fire at Man U because we have moved him along.

I understand your argument but this only really works in positions where there are more than 1 playing each game. We can't afford 50m+ strikers to use as backup or swapsies with DCL.

Thought I was losing the plot - the whole problem is that we have utter deadwood outside of the first XI yet people are all over someone that will become just that?! If it doesn't improve us, don't bother and this really doesn't, it's misplaced optimism.
You buy crap, you get crap; Fabien Delph, Ashley Williams, Sandro etc.

Because he’s a backup.  No quality player will sign to sit behind DCL.  We aren’t Real Madrid.  Milik ain’t signing to sit on the bench.  You need role players and king has already played in the league and scored goals in this league.  He won’t need to adjust (milik could be a bust).  Sure king won’t be a worldie but we don’t need him to be.  We need a solid option off the bench and to spell injuries and cup matches. He can play across the front 3 which also increases his worth IMO

Honestly can't see Milik coming here to play second fiddle to DCL. This is our problem now - we've become Spurs of the past 2-3 seasons with Kane. DCL is first choice and we have no real backup of quality if he's out for any reason and ayers will know they will only play in this situation. Its a player on the come down who is happy to get some game time or a player who has bee  relegated for any crack/chance to play in Prem still. I think King is a good bet for this back up role and prob knows he's not going to be 1st choice in  top 10 Prem team anymore

The situation with Moise is fantastic for the club - if he stayed on our bench this season his value would plummet and we would get naff all for him when selling, now he's playing well at PSG his value is preserved if not increased and we have the high ground to decide his future on our terms.
Hes no loss to us this season as he didn't do anything for us last season. Honestly not fussed if he stays or gets sold - we get stronger either way

This for me too.  King would be a nice player to play across the front 3 and backup what we have.  He has goals in him.

I didn’t realize he’s only 20!!  Get him in and have Coleman be the aging vet for rotation and cup matches.

If we can move Delph on - I'd happily take him. He's more like a Barry type than Delph will ever be.

How/Why the hell did we sign him!!?!!.!.!?

Everything changes all of a sudden, West Ham now need to go to the South Coast tomorrow to play Southampton, before coming back up the country to play us at Goodison - they'll be in luxury accommodation but a bit of a ballache travel wise that - especially when you consider we now get to put our feet up and watch Netflix.
Thoughts with the City players obviously, but this is a wonderful slice of luck that we really should take advantage of, full throttle against these now and hopefully Southampton can get stuck into them tomorrow to ramp up the fatigue!

Blessing in disguise. I was looking forward to the game, but a fresh team against West Ham (who play tomorrow away at Southampton with little turn around before travelling up north) should see a good win hopefully with Richarlison and James playing.
