Sorry to go off topic again but I was discussing this the other day. Lampard was obsessed on building around Iwobi in the ‘10’ and yes he looked our best player but he lost the ball so many times and we got punished so many times. Maybe if Lampard hadn’t alienated Doucoure and played Iwobi in a wide position he’d still be our manager. Iwobi is still a key player but having Doucoure in the the 3 has made us so much better - it’s not as if Dyche has discovered some miracle remedy; Ancelotti, the best manager in world football, played Doucoure on a weekly basis and had reservations over Iwobi centrally. *disclaimer - I’m not bitching about Lampard (I’ll forever be thankful and supportive) and am certainly not knocking Iwobi’s talents.

Incredibly bargain thinking if Dyche could get him ‘back on it’ as StevO said - Alli ‘back on it’ is world class - won’t happen but as @StevO said, “Wishful thinking.”

They had Gakpo, Nunez and Salah with Jota and Firminho in reserve and were missing Diaz. We had McNeil, Iwobi and Simms with Maupay and Gray in reserve and were missing Calvert-Lewin and Townsend. A disappointing performance but not surprising result - Leeds and Villa are games we need to throw everything at - 6 points and things will look a lot less depressing.

Caught everything today - my criticism of him is that he doesn’t command his area on crosses and punches too many but don’t think he punched one today. It may have just been a coincidence with the types a ball delivered but felt he was so much more commanding and I felt so much better with him collecting crosses.

McNeil - energy and quality delivery. Special mention to so many other players but Doucoure looked like a player with something to prove and Mykolenko was defensively excellent.

Beyond him… he brought Collins off Stoke and played him first team - think he was only 19 so he’ll play ‘good enough’ youngsters - Trippier was signed young and developed but maybe before Dyche. Burnley aren’t renowned for their academy like you say though - Jay Rodriguez, Kyle Lafferty… Lee Dixon!!! I do hope this shitshow provides opportunities for someone like Mills - we need something!

We needed 2 wingers and a striker before Gordon went - DISGRACEFUL!

Burnley fans I know said McNeil was brilliant when he broke through as a line-hugging left winger but then Dyche started trying to play him inside more and that impacted negatively - we’ll see I suppose.

So… after 20 games our 3 strikers, Maupay, Calvert-Lewin and Simms, have 1 - 1 - 0 goals… we’ve just sold the player who has scored 20% of our league goals this season. A little fun fact to really highlight how wonderful we are - Wesley Faes has scored more for Liverpool than Calvert Lewin and Maupay have for us combined… and he’s a centre back… oh and he doesn’t even play for Liverpool… hey ho - we’ve had good times
