The days of players feeling like Bally did are gone. He had a side that was competing, now we don't. Footballers do see us as being special anymore. No more than we see our employers as special. To many it's just a highly paid job. The more we progress under Moshiri the more we will see mercenaries coming to the club, the only thing they will show their loyalty to is the bank balance. But that all comes with progression, the top clubs challenging for the league see it all of the time. If we want to be up there we need to get used to it.

They can take Stones and give us Fellaini and Mata. Deal?

I can't personally figure out why anyone would think De Boer is a better choice than Emery. Managed to loose the last two two-horse races. Tactically quite inflexible. Only one club so far. Not a good record in Europe. Emery, Pellegrini, Favre and Koeman are all clearly better candidates.

Well, I'm moving back to MS, except I'll be near the coast instead in the northern part of the state.

Long story short, I got the job I interviewed for, so in feeling pretty good right now.

Some might remember from my earlier (more active) days as a member of Toffeetalk that I'm a lawyer who specialized in EU law (not anymore) so I'm somewhat opinionated on this issue. The following is just my point of view though (don't shoot me).

If I were a UK citizen (which I'm not) I'd vote IN; being from the continent, I hope the "Leave" camp wins.

The deal Cameron got is a slap in the face of every other EU country. If every individual EU member state got to (re-)negotiate its own terms, EU constitutional law would become meaningless and the idea of an 'ever closer union' would be dead. In fact, I would go as far as to say that if the UK votes to stay in, the rest of the EU should hold a referendum on whether or not the UK should be allowed to stay in with their new deal. Either you fully accept all EU law, or you're out.

Rubecula: on the age issue: I read that it's mostly (mostly; not all) older, white working class voters who have few or no educational qualifications who vote for UKIP. Also it's mostly older people who care most about national sovereignty and are "proud" of their country.
One of the most important principles in EU law is the principle of subsidiarity. Which mean that the EU does not take action, unless it is more effective than action taken at national, regional or local level. This principle very much strengthens national sovereignty and ensures it is always in the best (common) interest for the EU to take action.

Rubecula: regarding the EU president: it's not a president per se; only someone who head the European Council for a couple of years (this position used to rotate between European leaders of each country every six months)
I would agree that there are a lot of problems with the democratic deficit in the EU, but only a closer union can solve those, which is exactly the opposite of what Cameron negotiated.

Not on the same planet imo. Loved Naisy's attitude, character and work ethic but he's not half the player Felli is.

I was a Felli fan from the start; even when he appeared to be struggling in the early days and people were thinking we'd wasted a big wedge I could see signs of a player.

I'd have him back no problem; but I'd offer half what we sold him for and negotiate from there.

He also had some excellent games as a CDM whe n we were playing some great football on the ground and besides throwing him up there is not a bad plan B if things are not working out

I don't respond to anything you post about Lukaku because you're not open to any argument that doesn't support your point of view, but I feel like I have to respond to this.

Whether or not you're an Evertonian isn't a requirement to post on this forum.

I'd agree that I sometimes roll my eyes when reading a post by Mirallas (I assume he's quite young) but I do think he's knowledgeable about football, and he adds a lot to this forum with his knowledge of other leagues.

The fact that you are "someone who loves Everton and has been watching us since 1984 who has no affinity to players just Everton", doesn't give you any football related credibility. In fact, every post you make in any Lukaku related thread lowers said credibility.

However that doesn't mean your a racist, just an annoying person who always needs to have the last word. (the gandhi quote, the time you posted a list of Everton books from Amazon, ... all excellent posts from an excellent toffeetalk member).

Why would we? We don't need to enter the "big name" player merry go round to replace him good scouting and management can unearth a player with his ability, had many heard of some of the standout players of this season a year or two ago?

He's a very good player and I do rate him highly but he's not world class and is not irreplaceable, £65m and I would snatch any clubs hand off and reinvest

You actually used a full on description as to why we should experiment with him.

Side note... I take accusations of racism to a non racist person as serious as racism itself because you sir are the kind of prick that is an obstacle to diversity. Racism is not tolerated on this forum and won't be.

Hmmm credibility.... Let's see... a non evertonian poster who has been a troll when things dont go well for us in match threads and really just posts about all things Belgian.

Or someone who loves Everton and has been watching us since 1984 who has no affinity to players just Everton.

Yep, credibility... what's the name of that Belgian manager who we should hire again?

Lukaku drags players out of position which isn't reflected in the stats either. His passing will never be top class, but he drags players with him making invaluable space to put the ball in and plays good triangles. Barkley doesn't exploit it enough to get the assists though.
When Rom uses his strength he's unstoppable. He's a smart player and makes good runs and gets in the right spaces. Good turn on him, but not a full bag of tricks. Can score with both feet, and has improved his heading. He's faster than he looks as well. Only major flaw was his touch, but that's not an issue anymore.
He shines when he plays on instincts, unfortunately Martinez wants carbon copies of training ground goals. If we played faster he'd be unstoppable. He's not got all of Deulofeu's crosses, but we should be getting more players into the box to make sure someone does.
