lets look at it this way:-

£50m = £10m straight to Barnsley leaving £40m to us.

£40m in transfer money in Elstone language = 3 x £8m average players and the remainder going to agents fees etc and to pay off "operating costs" which will no doubt increase as a result of the money coming in.

So there you have it. Lose John stones and we get a similar scenario to when we lost Lescott (Distin, Bilyaletdinov and Heitinga).

For me I would use stones as an opportunity to make a statement that we arent to be pushed around.

I'm annoyed that some fans can't see past the fact that our commercial ineptitude leads other clubs to treat us so disgustingly bad. Its not just a case of money ruining the game, its that fact that we are paupers because of the poor way in which we have been run.

Put it this way, if Liverpool or Spurs owned Stones they would not sell for less than £60m - i'm being serious.

Arrogant prick. How did the story get out?! Because it's their tactics to unsettle the player.

Problem between Everton and stones... fuck off Jose.

I know what you meant mate, what I meant was just because he's been a half decent player and a model.pro doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a good coach.

I'm not opposed to him getting a coaching role just not a 2 or 3 year deal as a player. It juat makes no sense to me.

I think you just need to look at cleverelys pass to Rom, class, you can't fluke that, it was a split second moment of quick thinking and perfect technique. If Gerrard did that pass for LA Galaxy it would be viral by now.

Just had a read of the match-day thread out of interest. There are a couple of posts about him playing wide for sure but this I found a bit surprising after the above.

    Your half-time comment...

And then about ten minutes from the end...

One thread per player and it can move into the transfer thread when we're linked and out when they go elsewhere.

Players like Moutinho, Riquelme, Banega and Barton will do the hokey cokey with all the ins and outs!

Keep up the good work Mike ?

Really, does that include spooning the ball over the bar from 10 yards cos it's on the weaker foot? Twice in one game?

Smacking the ball 15 yards wide from 40 yards on an open go when jags was free to have a one on one with a non goalkeeper. Go all night with this dunc.

Just waiting for the jpeg of him with his dreadlocks saying:-

"Neymar has as many goals as lukaku after playing in a tough technical league whilst lukaku scored most of his playing Against part time vets and mechanics after making his debut as a 16 year old with an over active pituitary gland"

Matt that is exactly what he is doing mate, if your bird came in and said that she fancied the fella down the rosd with a bigger house, nicer car and more money would you say it was acceptable and she was just wanting to better herself or would you be pissed off and think she was being disrespectful?

The point being is even if she did want that she doesn't have to go on and on about it. She should be respectful and say nothing and eventually lesve you if he was interested.

Two weeks running he has given the ball away which cost us goals, and colliding with his own players does'nt help.

Good squad player to come in now and again, similar to Osman, but McCarthy and Besic should be the central mid holders.

Hate to admit it but you're talking sense MC; winning the Europa would more than make up for the shortfall in league prize-money and put us at the top table in Europe next year. Be annoying on a game to game basis to struggle in the league but I'd happily take that scenario come the end of the season..

I think Leighton will have to be at his best from the off because if he slips up at all the media (who seem to me to be the people who pick the team) will be screaming for Luke Shaw to be in when he's fit.

They should take Kones 9 off him, give Lukaku that and give Eto'o 10 and give Kone the phone number to the physio on his.

One thing I love about Eto'o in that video of his goals at Chelsea is how so many of them were created out of his own hard work. If he works that hard on the field for us, everyone will love him. Another thing I love is that the other half of the goals were created by his skills on the ball. The touches he takes are fantastic, and I hope he teaches Lukaku a thing or two in his time here.

    Great signing.

Normally I stick to lurking (I use to post back in '07), but if this game doesn't change how Martinez looks at some of his players, then I hold him solely accountable moving forward.

Leon Osman should never see the pitch unless he's a 2nd half sub against the bottom half or lesser opponents in the cups. Everyone will focus on the 1st goal (and rightly so), but Ossie consistently commits the same cardinal sins all game and has since last year (not to mention every fan can see he only lasts 45-60 minutes tops).
Box: box he positions himself in front of the attacker when defending but he simply doesn't know how to put in a good challenge. This lets attackers pick out some quality passes/crosses, and a few of the missed opportunities today were because he doesn't pressure. As a knock on effect, because of how Ossie positions himself Distin and Baines relax because they think an attacker is covered if they make a run. Unfortunately that's 100% not the case with Ossie. His marking has and always will be poor, which has gotten worse since he's lost pace. Last, he offers nothing as a outlet when we regain possession in our box because he doesn't have the pace or positioning to ever break. This forces defenders to make bad clearances because he doesn't make himself available as a good option to push forward.
What compounded and spotlighted Osman's ineffectiveness were the tactics behind 2 substitutions: Atsu and McGeady. I actually do think both are quality players, but Bobby has to have the situational awareness to say as a final instruction you have to track back. I don't think it's fair to have a go at either of them because we don't know if tactically Martinez instructed that, but regardless of the culprit it was a bad decision. The last 20 minutes was filled with 3v2s against Coleman/McCarthy and 3v1.5's against Baines and Osman (I'm willing to give a .5 because Ossie can create the illusion someone's marked if the passer is under pressure).

Last, while I'm not willing to overreact and throw the towel in on the Jagielka/Distin partnership, their willingness to accept taking wild clearances/swings at the ball (at a much higher rate than last year) is a sign of either fatigue, being off the pace, or old habits coming back. I counted 4+ giveaways by Jags in the first 30 minutes alone and Distin wasn't much better.

I'll stop my venting there, but how Martinez responds going forward will tell me a lot about how much I should trust him.
