efc1111 reacted to Romey 1878 in Martinez - Direction?
For me there is so much to like about him being our manager. He talks a brilliant game. We play some cracking attacking football. He can attract exciting players to the club. He has the basis of a good philosophy that we'd all like to see succeed.
Then there are the downsides to him. He's a bullshitter that either refuses to be honest or genuinely believes what he says. He's stubborn to the point that it's costing us points week in, week out. His odd team selections. His weird substitutions, or a complete lack of them.
There are more (of both positive and negative), and I so want him to succeed here because his plus points are very positive but his negative points are slowly but surely breaking me.

I'm really hoping he address' this defensive frailty. Just watched his post match interview. He looks pissed off. Good to hear him say it's not good enough at the back and needs improving. Please dort it out!
And the reason I really want him to sort it out is because he has done quite a bit right this season. We are playing some real good football. He is getting some good stuff out of most players.
A lot of credit is going to Lukaku. But you look at that whole attacking quartet and there are some brilliant efforts this season. Lukaku has 15 league goals, 4 assists, Geri 2 goals, 7 assists, Barkley 6 goals, 7 assists and Kone 5 goals, 4 assists. You can't ask for more than that.
Behind them, Barry is having a very good season, McCarthy is overall doing fine and Cleverly has covered very well.
The back 4 individually no one is having a nightmare and the talent is there.
As I said earlier, I fear that this defensive malarkey will destroy all his other good work. That will be a real shame.
I do still support him, I don't think he needs sacking now, and if this defensive crap carries on right to the end of the season, then no, a cup run wouldn't mask over it.

I've always been a supporter of Martinez, bit this defensive malarkey is breaking me.
We cannot carry on doing this. It's totally unacceptable to be seeing this time and time again. It's not a one off, this is not a knee jerk comment or reaction. This is going back to last season.
Honestly, I can't believe we keep doing this.
We did all the right things to get back from 2-1 down into a 3-2 lead...but then, yet again, foot off the gad, fanny around, concede and lose points.
Unreal.

Considering Arnoutovic should have had two yellows earlier in the game and didn't get one it's fucking gutting.

efc1111 got a reaction from Lowensda in Ryan Ledson
He's helped them to three wins and three draws in their last six games, a regular starter and has come close to scoring a few times.
It seems that since he joined and is playing a mainly holding midfield role they've been able to push Luke Berry into a more attacking midfield role and he's scored four goals, so it's working out well. Wouldn't be surprised if they ask to extend the loan to the end of the season.

They need to be looking at their performances first.

It seems as if we need to try to win matches 4-3, as our defense is so disorganized. I suppose Roberto's reputation is that his offensive schemes are creative, but he just doesn't emphasize defending. Some pretty basic errors today, and habitually we seem to allow opposing players lots of space with the ball moving toward our goal. Don't close down effectively.
I was thrilled with his appointment, but just have no confidence in him these days. The Kone-Mirallas saga is discouraging, to put it kindly.
I doubt he'll be dismissed, but I don't see how one could claim he's doing a good job this season. Don't want to excuse all of the players, some of whom I've apparently overrated. Virtually all opposing teams appear to be more aggressive, energetic, determined.

Suppose it's all opinions mate.
I don't think we are mediocre. I see us an exciting team that are defending badly.
Yet Baines and Coleman used to be able to do it.
Stones is supposedly worth 50m.
They should be taking more responsibility themselves for me.

efc1111 got a reaction from Matt in Brendan Galloway
Martinez said back in the summer that he expects Galloway to make his first 50 appearances at LB so nothing's changed there.

efc1111 reacted to Mogsy in Substitutions
Why o why does Martinez seem to be so reluctant to use his bench??? Why buy Lennon and not bring him on, why when(if he does) bring on Kev does it happen so late? Kone is quite clearly knackered at the end of games why not sub him, isn't that the whole point of subs??? I don't get it! Please someone explain it to me!!!!!

So frustrating. Just couldnt get through. But how many times have we said that? And that's what will stop us being top 4 and see us fighting around the 5th-7th positions...that lack of attacking 'killer instinct'. Too many dummies, shimmies, extra touches, pauses, all in and around their box. On the plus side...Lukaku, Barkley and Geri will keep learning and getting better in and around the opposition box.
Geri was frustrating. Many of his final balls and passes were useless.
Also frustrating to concede a carbon copy goal that we've seen so often.
And...and...for the first time, I am actually frustrated with Martinez and his lack of subs. When your attacking players have run out of ideas and/or energy, bring another one on to see if he can add something else. To have only brought Baines on is criminal for me.
Feels like a defeat. Feels very frustrating just now. But at the same time, we played some excellent football. Created many chances, were unlucky to hot the framework 3 times. We did a lot right tonight. It just didn't happen.

Sometimes, a team needs to learn a lesson like this the hard way. I would hope we'll really learn from this experience.

Had the Everton supporters not charged the pitch, the whistle would have been blown and 3-2 Everton.
