I'm wondering about Kones shooting? Only one was shite...the others were fine? Didn't think he did too bad at all.

I said it wasn't his fault? So fuck?
I'm enjoying a victory rather than taking an opportunity to give digs out.

Gonna be a goodun. Looks to have a good engine and hunts the ball down up the top too.

And of course, his crosses stand out.

But we still need Baines. He might not be as fluent this season, but 10 others haven't been either.

Yep, and I hope he gets 15+ in the league this season. With 12 games left, it would mean a nice pick up for him and the team.

A chance is a shot. The exact stat was shots on goal. If I remember right, he was the highest or 2nd highest for those shots being on target, so that wasn't the issue. The post is in this thread somewhere. I think he dropped down a bit this past 6-8 weeks as we attempted to solidify our back line. As a team in this period, we haven't created much at all.

But yeah, feels a bit harsh to be overly critical of one player when team hasn't done to good, and vice versa.

It's a fair point. But that could rumble on. His offsides...Too many, one of the highest in the league I believe. His missed opportunities...He was 5th in the league for shots at goal come the start of the year...not too sure now.

He's just an enigma. I don't think there's any glory for anyone if he plays shite.

But I guess it's hard to call as the team as a whole haven't exactly set the world a light consistently this season.

    Great finish tonight. Sublime.

2 key ingredients to having a shitter...you GK has a nightmare one end of the pitch...your key striker has a nightmare at the other end.

My word. I'm out of things to say.

Couldn't believe how many he got in the Derby. Ridiculous.

Not sure about tonight. Don't think we enabled him to be offside!!!

There was one real daft one where he was looking right across the line of 3 defenders.

He did well tonight. But yeah, these offsides are daft. I know he's one of the highest in the league for offsides.

2nd half was a better watch!!!

In the end, it wouldn't have been unfair for us to get a draw or even nick a win. We held our own most of the time. That's not say we played brilliantly, but we did what we had to...For 88 minutes anyway!

Was no surprise to see Barry sent off. The up side to that is that we hopefully get to see McCarthy and Besic together.

Surprised to see the role Gibson seemed to have. He seemed quite far up field.

Pleased for Howard. Real solid performance. Justified his Number 1 slot tonight.

    Onwards and upwards.

    Great saves from poor finishing???

How can that be? Surely it has to be one or the other? You can't have a 'great save' from a 'poor finish'? Surely if it's a poor finish, all you've had to do is make a standard, normal, run of the mill save?

I thought he linked up well. Showed some promising runs, touches and decent balls into the box.

I was surprised as it seemed Coleman and him linked up well. That's a big hope for me, that he creates space for a full flowing Coleman.

I should say that what I mean by being solid at the back giving confidence to the forward players is that this will be the eventual outcome once we actually get that side of our game going again. As in, they'll feel assured to be able to 'express' themselves and take more risks knowing that those at the back are on song and ready. I'm not to good at making sense of these things when speed typing on my phone!!!

I think we all love Naisy. But an on form Barkley gives us so much more there. I think Barkley was on the left/right because at the time, Naisy was doing a fine job in the middle. Not so much now though!

As Redknapp said about McCarthy pre game, it stuck in my mind...

"He is the thinking man's footballer..."

    After the game...

He can play for any team in the Premier League, the ability he has and the way he controls games. It was a bit of a risk for Roberto Martinez to play him as he hasnt played in a while but it paid off. He was the best player on the pitch for them.

    Carragher...

"Roberto Martinez said he cant be without him, he is the only one he cant replace, and I thought he was outstanding," he said.

"He is a top midfielder player and he had the most tackles in the game, even though its his first game back. Coutinho and Steven Gerrard have been vital for Liverpool in the last few weeks and he nullified them.

"He is not just a destructive player with great energy but he can play as well. He is a midfield player who ticks every box, the only thing he lacks is goals."

    Clueless idiots.

We didn't just spend accumulated money.

We had £15-£19 million accumulated from 2013/14 depending on loan fees for Lukaku, Barry and Gerry.

This season we spent £33 million.

That's £14-£18 million spent with no player sales.

Plus we paid off £15-£20 million of debt. Can't remember exactly.

We can get rid of some dead wood. We won't have to sell a key player.

There's a few factors to throw in...prize money etc. But yeah, £20 - £30 million budget.

He will have money. Because of the TV money. It's an extra 20-30 million.

Problem is, prices will go up.

It has to be spent wisely.

On the whole, I'm ok with this. We didn't deserve to win, and it would have been harsh to lose.

I'm pleased with how we have gone back to basics. We've solidified at the back. The confidence will grow from these clean sheets, and from the lack of goals conceded overall recently. Stones and Jags it is. I'm not too fussed on the amount of direct balls getting played from the back as most of them end up being intercepted by the oppositions back line.

The down side to solidifying the back line is the lack of threat up top. Hopefully the right balance will come in soon.

I thought most of our players had tidy games today.

I wasn't too surprised to see Mirallas go off. And thought Lennon did quite well. Coleman looked much more active once Lennon came on. And actually, we came out more once Mirallas went off. Not sure if that's a coincidence.

We really really should have put much more pressure on Sakho. He's atrocious.

Lukaku's offsides really frustrated me. Happens to often. I'm also in the camp wondering what this stuff about pace is all about?!

Barkley looked nifty once on but should have come on at least 15 minutes earlier.

A decent day at the office. Nothing special.
