Ha! I've had mine out for the past few weeks. I've hardly commented, but have been tempted often! All the 'neg heads' are having a field day...doing my tits right in.

BUT it's been a good read every day! It's funny that not long ago I was accused of causing shit for a certain someone...total bollocks of course...strange how it carries on still.

While I'm on, might as well add my views on the relegation battle. There is no relegation battle. Blah. Blah. Blah. Whatever.

A good quality cover/starter for that left side.

I think it's a bit daft to use over the top exaggerations to argue against Martinez. Using examples like Messi at left back etc. Has Martinez played Lukaku at Centre Back? Or Eto'o as left back?

Things have to he tried when shit hits the fan with injuries. And footballers at this high level should be able to do a bit of adjusting.

Look at Man City...Milner as a striker the last 2 or 3 games.

I guess what we need to realise is that Martinez maybe already knows that McGeady, Atsu and Pienaar aren't up to it. So when Mirallas is injured, who can he play out wide? He can only pop his best talent out there and hope they do a job. Hence Barkley, Eto'o and Naismith being played.

I was a loud critic of those 3 being played together, as I was when he used no subs the other week. But maybe now we know why? It's just a thought.

It's sometimes a case of 'what's the better of 2 evils'...play lesser talent in their right position or ask better talent to play slightly out of position?

Whatever, you can certainly add my name to the list of peeps who want to see one or 2 wide players in January.

Maybe it's a bit of pride that Everton aren't like the rest and sack managers? If we were to sack Martinez now, we are just another football club.

Such a contrast to last season. Martinez and the senior players really need to pull themselves in now. This is way off our best. Way off.

We are well off form. No doubt. We are playing shite. No doubt. Have we really got going this season? Not really. There's been glimpses but nothing for more than 1 game at a time.

It's all frustrating, of course it is. The injuries, the errors, the form, the tempo, the intensity etc. All very frustrating.

But relegation fight? Sack Martinez? In decline? And the rest? Wigan?? Not a chance.

Really glad I'm not of this ilk.

You know what, I swear down, when I was typing all that I knew you would pipe up with that. Knew it.

You completely miss the point of the post. As always.

It was about age and learning from mistakes. That's management. Both irrelevant to what you inherit.

(As a side note...those who use inheritance as an 'attack' on Martinez and 'defence' of Moyes always fail to mention that Moyes inherited a title winning side at Man Utd. Hence, the whole argument is invalid).

I think that something we all miss is where Martinez is in his career. He is in the early days. He's 41 years of age. A very young manager.

Moyes was 39 when we appointed him. Martinez 40. How many years did it take Moyes to develop his playing style? How many players did he sign? How many mistakes were made?

We gave Moyes 11 years. After Moyes' 2nd full season in charge, where we finished 17th, Moyes said he learned a lot from that dreadful season about himself as a Manager, he said himself that he then altered his approach. Moyes was then 41 years of age.

    See the similarities?

What ever we think, Martinez will get it right. Martinez is a clever man. A man who studies the game in depth.

The idea behind our play is dead right. Keep the ball. Make the opposition chase and tire. And attack with pace. Unfortunately the pace bit is missing just now!

There could be many many reasons why it isn't happening as it should just now. And we can debate it until we curl up and die.

But I believe we are in the right hands. Whatever happens this season, and I still believe we'll push for 4th, we will be better equipped for the next season and so on and so forth.

I don't get too concerned with who occupies what position until the last 8-10 games. There's no point fretting that West Ham are in 4th when we have 21 games to play. The same as a few weeks ago, Southampton were 2nd, 3rd, then 4th. They'll fade.

I prefer to keep tabs on where we are compared to those most likely to challenge for 4th. Arsenal, Spurs and Redshite.

It feels wrong talking down other teams chances when we aren't doing as well as expected.

But that kind of makes me feel positive. We've seen the best of the likes of West Ham and Southampton, possibly Man Utd (possibly!!!). We haven't seen the best of us. And it will happen at some point. It has to happen. We have a real good squad. A good manager. I cannot believe that this squad of players, and this manager, can perform at this level for a whole season. We may be mid table, but we are there not by playing out of our skins and above our level but by playing (mostly) shite and way below our level.

I know there'll be a few shaking there heads in disbelief. But allow me to have my more positive outlook the same way as you are allowed your more negative outlook.

Not sure why Moyes has to keep coming along. The blokes been gone for 18 months. Good luck to him but comparisons of an 18 month tenure to an 11 year one...well, pointless.

I agree on the mid season report. Definitely a C -!!!

Your argument is flawed...He had 6 goals and 2 assists!!!

Anyway, someone posted earlier his mileage. Fair play to that. That's a surprise. Because his reputation is of being a bit lazy...Google it...but that doesn't mean all the time. Maybe he just is in spells? The last few games he certainly has appeared more on the lazy side. But yeah, clearly when 'on it' he covers a lot of ground.

In terms of him not having any chances created for him (a big argument here), he is actually 5th in the Premiership for the number of shots by a single player (which I assume equates to a chance?). He has 49 (30 inside area, 19 outside). Everton as a team are 10th for chances created, 162. So I don't know, has a third of our chances fell to Lukaku???

Either way, he has scored 6 league goals out of those 49 shots. Not a great conversion rate of chances. Although he gets 59% on target...which is pretty good, so it ain't that he can't hit a barn door!!!

its not a bash by the way. It's a stat. Just like the mileage, just like Matt ' s 'responsible for 25% of league goals'. He does get chances. As soon as he starts converting them, we'll be flying!!!

I actually agree with the philosophy of keeping the ball, patiently passing around and looking to create gaps. Make the opposition chase the ball and, in a way, tire out. It's a sound game plan. The opposition can't (or isn't supposed to!) do much damage if they don't have the ball.

To me, it's supposed to be the same mentality as when David Haye beat that massive bloke, Nikolai Valuev. Haye didn't land many punches, but he made Valuev chase him and made him miss. You can't win a fight if you don't land a punch.

I'm pretty sure we had this style last season.

This season....I think we all know. The tempo is too slow. Passing it around at the back is fine. Moving it forward...then all the way back again, is not fine. And we are doing this too much.

There's many things that don't look right this season. We all tend to have our ding dongs on here, but I think we all agree on the same things that are going wrong (well, mostly, don't want to push my luck!). Maybe not on individual players, but certainly on things like tempo, positions, intensity, aggression.

Martinez is meant to be a student of the game. A deep analyser. A bloke who has 2 TV's in his living room...One for him and his football analysis and one for his missus. I hope he is honest with himself and what he must be able to see.

I think he got it badly wrong on Saturday. And it's not hindsight. We can only hope he looks and learns from it. Quickly.

Fortunately, we are not a club that judges managers midway through their 2nd season. We don't write off a season after 17 games. I still believe we have something to play for.

And I also believe we will click and play some real good stuff in the 2nd half of the season.

He pissed me off on Saturday, more so than I have been for a very long time as an Evertonian. But I still believe that his philosophy on football is right for this club. I still believe in the culture he wants to bring. It needs some fine tuning and an oil change. That doesn't make it a write off.

Just to say I call 'foul play' on some hand picked lines from Martinez post game interview. Taking snippets is a bit deceiving...use the full sentences...

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on BBC Sport:
"Very disappointing. A game with nothing between the two sides apart from ourselves not being able to defend the six-yard box better.
"It is about how we defended the six-yard box, the other two goals were the same. They didn't have to do much to score three goals. It was not a case of them being superior to us, it is just we were very soft.
"I do feel we need to find a good run of performances. I don't think the performance was too far away from what you need to get good results

    Not sure what to say.

Well, the only thing I want to say for sure is....let's not tare each other to shreds lads, no need for the nastiness.

I only caught the last half hour or so (got a stream just as they got the 2nd). But I didn't see anything at all. Just a load of Everton players pushing on but nothing happening.

I'm feeling a bit numb really. I'm just feeling gutted for the first time. I'm not sure what's happening to us? We are playing like a bunch of strangers. There's no fluency, rhythm, belief. It's just...weird.

I'm saddened that Martinez picked this team. After Besic and Barkley showed so much promise against QPR. Shame. And to make no subs at all?! McGeady, Kone, Pienaar...all with critics...but all fresh legs, attacking options, to come off the bench.

I see no sense in playing Naismith, Eto'o and Barkley in a 3, as they all naturally want to go central. So they just step on each others toes and nullify each others threat.

I dunno. Just so so disappointed. I don't recognise this team just now. I can count on one hand the games I think we've played well in from all competitions. So disappointing.

I'm not writing the season off but the 2nd half of the season is going to have to be something special.
