Hang on...surely you cant question Martinez defensively simply because he took over another managers back 4?! Thats so simplistic.
 
Its what you do with those players that counts. Martinez has them passing more, the full backs bombing forward and at that point the two CB's splitting and Barry sitting in if required (a tactic I notice liverpool now use Gerrard in!). On top of that...we have the third best defensive record in the league. I get the argument about lets see who he brings in himself, but that can be applied to any manager and any position, and could take years to prove...
 
Another simplistic argument is that the defensive maestro Moyes took over the league champions...how they getting on?!!

I agree that, from what I have seen of him, Stones aint done bad at RB....not mind blowingly good, but certainly hasnt done a Hettinga.
 
Fair play, he aint as dynamic as Coleman (who lets be honest has morphed into something exceptional this season, reaching a level no one expected!) BUT Coleman was also a very questionable RB a couple of seasons ago.
 
I like the look of Stones. Think he's going to be a very useful player and 'big up' the youngun for filling into the very tough boots of Coleman.
 
Oh, and earlier on, about the crowd etc. I wasnt quite slating it, well not intending to. But on the occasions I get to visit GP...I always look forward to a cracking atmosphere. And when it doesnt happen, regardless of the result, its a let down. Its no good....anyone got any insights into this???

Well, that was a defensive calamity! So much so, I found myself laughing at the mistakes we made.
 
When the line up was announced I felt assured. My only surprise was Alcaraz starting. I thought Stones would play CB and Hibbert RB, with that extra experience giving him the edge. Would it have made any difference? No, not one little bit. For a team which has been so defensively solid this season, that was a nightmare. We gifted them all 4 goals through poor defending. It was always going to be tough against Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho...they harrassed our back line non stop and we looked paniced.
 
The writting was on the wall with Gerrards goal. Barry tried to track him, Barkley got in his way, Barry then falls over and injures our main striker! You couldnt make it up!!! All the goals where our own fault. Simple.
 
Now I know the usual tactical genuis' are gonna be on saying we should have done this, played him, changed that....cos on fifa and football manager thats what you do. But honestly, the only thing that would have changed today is that our defence didnt have a collective mare....naff all the manager can do during the game in these unique situations, whether the manager be Martinez, Moyes or Howard Kendall.

Are you guys really arguing about our performances this season? About the manager? Style of play? Players used? Have a word. There aint one team in the league that hasnt had a bad game or two.
 
Today, first half we were shit. Utter shit. No need to compare to this, that, him, her....we were just shit. Because it happens.
 
But, while we are pointing the finger and talkin about bein shit...lets take a look at the Goodison 'faithful' today. Who were also shit. Ive travelled down to that game today, and yet again am dissapointed at the total lack of atmosphere. Spurs fans were loud n happy all game...it took to around the 50th minute for the first full on Everton chant to take off, and it was short lived.
 
Whats goin on? I think thats 3 games in a row like that for me. Im starting to get a complex, have I upset 30000 blue noses?!
