Liverpool's Troubles

Recommended Posts

For all their troubles they're still on course to win a trophy this season though.

Just noticed this topic - I wish we had their troubles, semi of europa, still fighting for 4th! It must be horrible! (before anyone says anything I know their expectations are prem league/champs league - but still... they could be a lot worse off!)

Doesn't he think he's wasted enough money?

i was thinkin exactly the same thing! But i must say, i agree with him completely. i hope he's around next season to spend it on another cripple noone has heard of and another overrated right back. Someone on there mentions O'Leary/Leeds.... Oh its so hard to not get my hopes up!!!

just to make things worse for them:

Torres has gone to see a specialist!

But they're set to officially be put up for sale so their future is looking a lot brighter.

hopefully it will be some of Portsmouths ex-owners :D Not that it will matter....

I wouldnt be excited about it if i was a Liverpool fan. Hicks and Gilett maybe fools but its the FSW who is doing the damage. Even if the regime change brought in a new manager, unless its someone like Mourihno/Scolari, it wouldnt make a difference. The team would need some serious shaking up in order to get back to what they were so wonderfully and agonizingly close to achieving last season, which would take a while. Like i said, its the FSW doing the damage so even if there is new investment, and he somehow gets his 60m to burn, he isnt capabale of doing anything wiht it! He spent nearly that much last year! Theyve missed Alonso and even Hyppia (for experience if nothing else), didnt replace either. Carra has to be on his last legs and Gerrard looks close to giving up. i can see them havin a crap season (by their standards) again next year with or without new investment/management. I cant see Benitez leaving because hes still going to cost them a bundle if they severe his contract so theyve got 1 more season at least. Therefore all this investment talk is a moot point until he is gone and im pretty sure most investors would see this...

The shite always fall on their feet, this will be no different.

True :( .

But in the interest of a bit of a profit from the situation I thought I may have a little flutter on them to finish 4th ( 20-1 at many good bookmakers).

If I put on £100 I'm safe in the knowledge that Rafa "I can guarantee we will finish in the top four" Benitez will cough up the £2,000 if the bet loses...I have his personal assurance in black and white :) .

Hey at last some good news for our rs friends!

New liverpool chairman Martin Broughton.....(Chelsea  season ticket holder), has given Rafa the ultimate vote of confidence!

He assures liverpool fans that he won't be sacking their beloved manager, and will infact be trusting rafa to spend whatever money the new owners give him wisely!

From the bottom of every Evertonians heart......thank you Martin Broughton.

The Yank's just want the 400% profit then  .

The fact that they're "for sale" means little in reality...Newcastle were for sale for ages but no-one would pay the extortionate asking price. This could run and run yet :) .

Rafa savaged here...

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/michael-calvin/Real-Madrid-are-welcome-to-Rafa-Benitez-the-Liverpool-boss-isn-t-even-the-best-manager-on-Merseyside-The-Michael-Calvin-Column-article395953.html

"...the Kop are wising up. A hard core might still revere him for the miracle of Istanbul. But the majority are beginning to realise the manager is not that different to the misfits, Hicks and Gillett.

...Liverpool’s win in the 2005 Champions League Final was on penalties. It was a wonderful, uplifting freak of human nature.

Liverpool’s only other trophy under Benitez, the FA Cup a year later, was also won in a shoot-out.

West Ham fans will go to their graves cursing the memory of extra-time earned purely by the strength of Steven Gerrard’s character.

Liverpool’s failure to finish fourth this season will be down to a dour, defensive, depressive culture.

He’s not even the best manager on Merseyside. Everton’s David Moyes has fewer resources, but greater substance.

His dressing room has resembled a field hospital and his board are as poor as church mice. But he’s not whinged. He’s been patient, pragmatic, and is looming in Rafa’s rear-view mirror.

...his transfer strategy is flawed. Who remembers Gabriel Paletta, Antonio Nunez, Mark González, or Josemi?

For every Fernando Torres there’s a Fernando Morientes, an Albert Riera, Andrea Dossena or a Robbie Keane.

He’s a poor man-manager, whose charm offensives tend to be reserved for set-piece media occasions.

His youth policy is expensive, unproductive.

Yet he does feel the love, occasionally. In a poll last week, 40 per cent of Real Madrid fans opted for him as their next manager.

There’s no accounting for taste."

Newcastle aren't the name that Liverpool are though. Buyers will be more willing to buy them just because they're Liverpool, and because they're Liverpool they'll pay more. Hopefully they won't get bought but it's unlikely they'll be for sale for all that long.

BBC are travelling with them to Madrid...

1501: We are at Euston and there are two luxury coaches that have come as close as they can to the platform and are waiting for the players to take them on the short trip to King's Cross [0.4 miles away]. There are a lot of people here wondering what all the fuss is about as they can see these are two very glitzy, silver coaches and there are two camera crews as well.

0.4 miles away? Luxury coaches  ? Would it hurt them to walk?

There is no way that the RS are worth £800m.

Let's just hope potential buyers remember, they may well never make top 4 again, Gerrard will probably be knackered after the world cup, Torres may have injuries every few weeks (bit like Saha), Carrigher is in his last season as well.

They surely are a club with the potential to fall apart very quickly.Rafa will waste most of the money given to him.More uninterested imports, just there for the big wages and not a local lad in sight.

It would make sence for the few local reds to make their way to Goodison Park, the peoples club, next season could just see the Blues back where they belong.

A much better investment would be Everton.

dont want to give them more excuses for when they get battered Mike:

"oh, we were tired from traveling"

"oh, the travel conditions took it out of us"

"oh, we all sprained our ankles walking to the train"

"oh, someone in the crowd injected us all with a new scientifically untraceable muscle relaxent and it slowed us down"

"oh, we all wandered past a gay club, looked at each other sheepishly, entwined our fingers and went in for a little man love so were knackered when we arrived"

Liverpool have arrived in Madrid for Thursday's Europa League semi-final with Atletico Madrid after a 1200-mile journey by train, coach and plane.

The squad left Runcorn railway station at 1304 BST on Tuesday, reaching Madrid airport more than 24 hours later.

They eventually flew from Bordeaux after an overnight stop in Paris.

"The trip has been a bit tortuous but the important thing is that we are here and we're in a good mood," said Benitez.

Horrific.

Plush coach to Runcorn....first class train to Euston...luxury coach (for about a minute) to King's Cross...Eurostar Leisure select (afternoon meal, 3 courses consisting of starter, light hot main course and pastries, with wine, water and soft drinks served at your seat, complimentary newspapers and magazines provided, as well as spacious reclining seats with generous legroom. Each seat benefits from either a slide-out table or a fixed table shared with adjacent passengers) to Paris. Night in a five star hotel, first class train to Bordeaux, flight (first class?) to Madrid.

Just like being tortured in fact.

They should try Ryanair next time....that truly is torture  .

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claims the side are ‘desperate’ to win the Europa League this season, but feels the squad needs up to four quality players to give them a chance of winning the Premier League title next term.

Gerrard said: “There are teams that have grown significantly in recent times, like Chelsea. In addition, Manchester United have been too strong [for us] for many years.

“Last year we came close to beating them but it is very difficult to overcome such a powerful team.

“Everyone knows that we must learn from this season. Some players have said we need a stronger squad and the key is to have better players and improve. I do not believe in profound changes or a revolution. Three or four quality players should be enough but more quality than quantity.

“The Premier League is the food of this club. We haven’t won it for such a long time and the crowd demand it.

“They want us to win this more than any other competition. We must continue to fight for this, hopefully finishing fourth this season and having a real go next season.

“After finishing second last year we started this season with the idea of winning the league and the Champions League.

“After a series of bad results we had to change targets. Now the fans are desperate for us to win the Europa League. It’s the only trophy left for us to fight for and we want to win it.”

Football Blog: Gerrard talks up Europa League

Yes Steven, the Premier League is obviously the food of your club considering you haven't won it since 1990.
