StevO
Billy Sharp last night played for Doncaster, two days after losing his two day old son. The game started with a minutes applause for Billys son, which must have been a very difficult moment for him. Billy scored a goal in the game and wore a t-shirt with dedication to his son which he showed in celebration. A nice bit of common sense from the ref, the letter of the law saying he should be booked, he turned a blind eye. Massive respect to Billy Sharp for going out there after such a loss, and rarely these days, well dont to referee Darren Deadman in showing common sense. Thoughts are with Billy and his family. Matt
Wow...... No way I could do that.... All the best to Billy and the family. Fair play to the ref for not booking him too, nice to see a human touch from an official as well as some usually less-that-common sense. rubecula
That is a nice story and brave of Billy. Well done to the ref too. (is his name really Deadman? or was that an accidental pun?)
Lowensda
Thank god there are people out there with hearts. Thoughts go to him and his family!
Romey 1878
When you think of the lengths the pampered "superstars" go to to NOT play and you've got Billy Sharp actually asking to play after a loss like that, it makes you respect the lad even more. Avinalaff
I have mixed feelings about it to be honest. I see the argument many are referring to, but would his time not have been better served at his wife's side?
MikeO
I have mixed feelings about it to be honest. I see the argument many are referring to, but would his time not have been better served at his wife's side? No-one knows how they'd cope in this situation....guess, rather than being heroic, he felt it was the best thing for him, and presumably his wife. Think with that unimaginable level of grief doing something physical to try to distract yourself just for a moment is understandable. I see the argument many are referring to, but would his time not have been better served at his wife's side? He said he wanted to score for his boy. I'd guess he'd discussed it at length with his wife as well.
Lowensda
I'm pretty sure his wife would have been present at the game
StevO
may have been a good stress relief for him, maybe a much needed distraction from "real life". im sure he had the full support of his family in chosing to play.
