England may have 4 teams in CL but a spanish newspaper has done an inventory of all nations represented in CL and England has only 17 english players in the tournament. Beaten by nations such as Sweden. (Sorry but I had to mention it)

Brazil and Spain top the league with Germany and France in 3rd and 4th.

How many starters are english in the 4 teams? Any english players starting in any of the continental teams?

Arsenal - Wilshere, Chambers, Walcott (when he is fit) and Chamberlain.

Chelsea - Terry & Cahill

City - Lampard, Hart & Milner.

Liverpool - Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge and Flanagan.

Im not sure who the other 3 players will be but only Wilshere, Terry, Cahill, Hart and the first 4 Liverpool players are always going to be in contention to start with the rest probably being used in rotation.

Maybe they included British players rather than just English, in which case Bale would be another?

Maybe but given the others below maybe not (as Ramsey and Allen are bound to be in Arsenal and Liverpool squad). Thinking about it Glen Johnson will also be in Liverpool squad.

Ashley Cole.

Ryan Gauld at Sporting Lisbon.

Yep I think your right on these. Plus Johnson that will be the 17.

From the English clubs Liverpool will almost have half the English players which is admirable if nothing more.

The problem is not a lack of English players on English teams but a lack of English players on teams from other countries. There's a reason the BPL is the best league in the world, and plaving restrictions on foreign players would do nothing but harm.

best league in the world? last 2 champs league finals 2 germans, 2 spanish, english no where to be found. last 2 europa league finals, chelsea winner, other teams were 2 portuguese, 1 spanish (winner). sorry steve, english teams may be fun to watch and the competition in the league has more parity than la liga or the bundesliga, but talent wise the results speak for themselves, not the best league in the world.

For entertainment value, it is by far the best league in the world. Why did NBC pay a fortune for broadcasting rights for BPL games and not for the other leagues you mention?

american's own man united, liverpool, arsenal, aston villa. chevrolet sponsors man u. no american's own a bundesliga, la liga, ligue 1, serie a team. american's play in the BPL (some in the bundesliga as well) as well. there's american corporate and personal interest in the BPL. if that was the case with the bundesliga, i'm sure we'd all be watching that each week and i'd be on a borrussia monchengladbach forum.

i agree with the entertainment value and that's due to league parity, but talent wise not the best in the world.

Actually isn't Gauld Scottish?

Yes he is, thought it was British players.

And now Micah Richards has given an interview about having to learn Spanish to play for Man City. Apparently Kompani asked all spanish speakers to speak english but they have ignored him. Milner has been taking spanish lessons for two years.
