John Stones

Sterling looks to be going for 50m...

Don't care what the price is, he is a "keep at all costs" player

Attacking players always go for more though don't they and Sterling is kicking up a fuss wanting to go. Doesn't matter how good they sre if they don't want to play for the club then they can fuck off regardless of who they are/play for or how good they are.

Hopefully. Couldn't see anything on OS about him being injured, but didn't look that hard If I'm honest.

He was included in the Singapore squad. So, we will see over the next week here what's going on. I'm guessing it was felt that it's best to just keep him out of a game situation at this point. Rather we not risk him for a preseason friendly against Swindon Town, personally.

Still dealing with the concussion he suffered on England duty isn't he?

He played after the concussion, so he's well recovered from that.

Nor did our other player, Garbutt, who has played in a tournament this summer. Extended break.

Bingo.

Really don't think Stones is going anywhere this summer. McCarthy though... I've got a feeling we'll sell him and I'll be gutted.

What makes you think that mate?

I actually think out of all the players he is one who is most definitely going nowhere.

Just a feeling really, I haven't heard anything.

Ha ha, typical Evertonian outlook. If it's something good we're bound to lise it. I suffer with exactly the same paranoia but I'm pretty confident he'll stay, I think he'll get his new deal next summer. He's only 2 years into a brand new 5 year contract. The club would be mad to up his money yet, next summer, 3 years in 2 to go he'll get a big deal.

I think he will become captain next season to.

hopefully we don't let him go. would be big blow when were trying to hang on to these young players.

I wouldn't let him go for less than £40m. He's far too good already and as a future prospect to let go for any less. to be honest I think I'd value him higher than that, he's got huge potential and if he carries on as he is he'll get 100 caps at least for England and probably captain them if things go well.

Insulting. A bid designed to unsettle - how did this news get out??? Yeah typical direty tactics, very Real Madridish

Sterling went for just shy of £50m - now is which case there is the starting point.

probably Romey because that is the opening bid and he is well aware that they would bid higher.

I don't see us letting him go cheap though. We'd be foolish to let him go for less than the 40m i mentioned.

I'd say 40 would be absolute minimum and I'd put add-ons into that as well.

My guess is that they will go up to £30m plus add on to take it around £40m - Phillip Green will press the sold button and the operating costs will go up by another £15m in this years accounts.

they sold David luiz for 50m didn't they ?

Hypothetically, at what point would you guys be happy to take the cash for him? I mean, I love Stones to bits, but imagine a 30-40m bid... could buy you an already established CB and possibly a world class striker too.

I would hate to see him leave for the record. Interesting though, this Chelsea bid made me remember back to that January transfer window when we were crying out for Moyes to bring someone in, and he bought the unheard of Stones from Barnsley for a mill. I reckon TT nearly crashed that day.

David Luiz was sold by Chelsea for £50m.

Stones can be a much a much better player. Is younger. Is English.

For me, that's the starting price. NOT even kidding.

He's better than Luiz, and i'm not even kidding.

Is it worrying (medically) if I didn't realise i'd already posted it...20 minutes apart

Its a false economy for us - for a start he has a decent sell on % for which we would have to give to Barnsley.

Then after we have got money to spend on supposed top end players there is agents fees, players wages etc etc.

So I will be honest - I really can't be bothered talking about the numbers - why not just keep him and see how far he can take us with the likes of the other youngsters we have.

Edit:- I think his sell on fee is 20% - so lets not get all excited thinking we can go and buy Edson Cavani if he goes for £40m we pocket £32m.

Guest rusty747

Are we trying to make money or win a trophy or two?

If it is the former, first bid over 35 mill and he is sold. If we are trying to win something then he is not for sale at any price. End of!

Hope he does a 'Delph' and realises he's better learning his trade here.

If he REALLY progresses and becomes consistent, you can't hold him back but for now, he's much better getting another season or two under his belt.

He will not be sold this season imo. If he is to then 50 million is the magic figure for me.

I think next season will be the end of him as our player.

Funny we're all moaning with us lacking transfer activity but if we're in a position to turn stupid money down for him we're obviously in a much better position than some of us think.

Time will tell. Wouldn't be surprised if Sly sports are wrong and no bid has been made. Not like they haven't been wrong in past about our players is it.

Stones would play himself into that side within 6 months. If they offered Cahill in the deal I'll take it. When don't Chelsea get their man? Let's be realistic here. They aren't a micky mouse club like City.

I think they call this.....'perspective'

CKHKhY_UsAA7R34.jpg

His stats are higher but Terry and Cahill played almost twice as many games.

Would he have been as consistent if he played as many games?

Don't really buy into my own argument just trying to convince myself he's not going

And talking about perspective, "Blues boss Roberto Martinez is planning for a long-term future at Everton with Stones central to his plans." This is why I get frustrated with extreme comments about finishing 11th this past season. It will take two or three years to put all the pieces in place, but, with the spine of young players we're building, we could really build a new legacy over the next decade. John Stones is one of the keys, so I don't see any way he'll be sold. If I was RM, I'd tell the board "sell him and I leave." It's one of those times when you put your job on the line.

bingo. I'd go so far as to say 5 years to transform a businesses approach. Unfortunately, the football business is not largely noted for it being a patient business.

That would make quite a few on here very happy. Not the selling Stones part but the RM resignation.

I'm in the not-at-any-price camp fwiw.

In addition to this mike, i would think the board wouldn't be arsed. if he resigned his salary would be off the books and they wouldn't be on the hook. obviously they'd like to keep him and hope he replicates the first season's success, but i don't think that tactic would be as beneficial with this club as it would elsewhere. no knock on us, but he doesn't have the resume/experience to be pulling that move at this stage of his career.

to be or not to be, that is the question.... lol

If I was RM, I'd tell the board "sell him and I leave."

you highlighted that. i was expressing that if he did do that it wouldn't matter, because he doesn't have the resume to make those demands and if he did leave he would void another 4 years in payments he is contracted to receive whether he is still with us or is let go. he would be MAD to make a demand like that.

why? you think he could make the demand and his resume and body of work would warrant the board giving in to his demands?

Off out to eat, I'll answer later (consciousness permitting).

Martinez is the boards only buffer to disgruntled fans. If Martinez makes that demand and they go ahead and sell Stones and Martinez makes that demand known publicly then the board are fucked. Well and truly fucked. The fans will be in uproar and they will turn on the board in a big way. They won't let that happen.

I'm not sure if it's been posted or linked as I've not been through the thread but it said on SSN before Stones issued a statement saying he's basically staying put at this fantastic club and is looking forward to learning from the likes of Jags and isn't going anywhere and is happy here

Not concrete evidence he's going nowhere but it bodes well and I'd expect him to be here for this season

That was before the reported bid.

That was before the reported bid.

Why would he issue the statement? Just due to the reported interest?

I only saw they had bid during the interview regarding the statement made by Stones it doesn't make much sense to issue that before any bid was made

Stones and the club would obviously know about any serious interest or bids before the likes of SSN so I'd personally take it he issued it after any bid was made
