I’ll be most curious to see what his role in the team is, especially when the players he’s looking to displace (Bernard, Richarlison and Sigurdsson) have all been big signings too.
Most of the talk I ever hear about him is that he’s more of an attacking mid that’s been forced to play out wide for most of his career. He’s supposed to be pretty intelligent with his passing compared to most wide players for instance. He could make for a more mobile alternative to Gylfi that most of us have been crying out for.

Talking about attack in relation to that period under Bisto tits is too funny, Pete. We barely had shots on goal, never mind shots that actually hit the target! Scrap that, we barely entered the oppositions fucking half of the pitch!
You say you’d have liked him to have been given another season... I was so put off by another second of that dick head that I wouldn’t have set foot inside Goodison again until he was gone. I’m not even sure I could’ve stomached watching us on the tv/a stream. The attack was getting worse the longer he was here, the defence were shipping goals (he didn’t shore us up at all). He’d have destroyed us if given more time and more money to spend.
I don’t know how you can dislike Silva because you think he doesn’t take any responsibility when we play badly but be on board with that fucker getting more time when he blamed everyone else but himself for us playing some of the worst football (if you can call it that) I have ever seen.

    That’s what I want in a goalkeeper. It’s why I love Pickford.

Is Theo that bad though? I really don’t think he is. And young up and coming wingers will be expensive if they are talented enough.
The man does a job, I don’t think we need to find better players for the bench. I’d rather the resource be spent strengthening the 11, and move players back down the pecking order. Which we’ve done with Richarlison and Bernard coming in, now Theo is on the bench and capable of being a very good back up.
If Malcolm was to come in and move one of Richarlison or Bernard to the bench then we’ve progressed a little (this being based on him being good enough to bench one of the others).

I still think we need another CB or Holgate to really step up. I think playing Keane and Mina together would be asking for trouble against pacey strikers when they both turn like ships.

Easy lads I know talk is cheap but disappointment is expensive emotionally, let’s not think we should be going from eighth  to fourth and then we all start thinking we’ve had a shit season if it doesn’t happen, seventh or sixth would be a great improvement that I would be really happy with.

Tbh I do think Gana holds some blame for that goal. I don’t think there’s too much wrong with his anticipation, but I don’t think he reacts well to the situation once Martina falls over.
Rather than naively trying to win the ball from the side, I think he should be concentrating on just getting his body between Salah and the goal. I think he lets him slip past too easily by trying to tackle him from the side for sure.
Also I don’t know how we’ve let another topic turn into a Gana debate 🙄

Not sure how long you’ve been supporting Everton but Jags in his prime was a hell of a lot more than an above average defender

What a superb signing he was and a great captain and club servant     Phil Jagielka confirms he has left Everton

Vranny reacted to plaidharper in Gylfi Sigurðsson
Stats can be misleading without context.  To some extent I had a similar view to pete0's in regards to Gylfi when he was brought into our team.  I thought he would create more / have more assists and so far he hasn't. He just hasn't.  This expectation of him was all based on his performance on his last season at Swansea where he racked up 9 goals and 13 assists in league play.  Without context you might ask:  "Where are all the assists Iceman?" but if you really look at Swansea that season (which is something I would never do unless in a silly conversation years later on TT) you can find some partial explanations.
    1) Gylfi pretty much took every single free kick for Swansea that season
    2) Many of Gylfi's assists came from those free kick situations
    3) Fernando Llorente put away a surprising 15 goals that season (along with Mawson getting 4 as well) which I am assuming many were headers
It would be safe to assume that most of Gylfi's assists came from free kicks that were headed in.
Now if you look at our squad this year, Gylfi is not always guaranteed to take free kicks.  Additionally, our CF (DCL) only had 6 league goals and our CB (Keane) only had 1 league goal.  Compare that to the same contributors in the Swansea 16/17 squad that is a difference of 12 goals (probably many of which were Gylfi free kick assists).  Lack of free kicks and a target man on the end of them that can convert could alone explain the difference in assists.
    So in conclusion:
Did I think Siggy would create more when he first arrived? Yes. Did I think he would have more than 6 assists a season? Yes.
    BUT
If we had a CF who was more clinical do I think he would have more assists? Yes. Was this season his highest ever goal tally? Yes.  Do I think this was his best season in a blue shirt? Yes.
We can talk stats and price tags all day long but I am happy with him.  He improved on last season and I see room for further improvement this coming season (more so if the CF situation improves).   It is when there is no improvement or a ceiling is hit that is when I will start to heavily criticize.

Vranny got a reaction from StevO in Gylfi Sigurðsson
The thing with Siggy is if you’re expecting him to be the main playmaker, always showing for the ball, then you’re going to be disappointed. That’s clearly Gomes’ role in the team. I see Gylfi more as an attacking third based player. He’s there to score goals, press up with DCL and provide the final ball (I honestly think he’d have more assists with a better striker and Walcott not getting so much game time).
While I do wish he’d present to the ball more when we’re struggling to break teams down, he’s certainly done more good than bad. I’d probably rate him as our best attacking player this season.

Me too mate, gave me goose bumps reading it. Only downside is it also made me feel old , and lucky , because I was at every match he mentioned !
The 3-0 Andy Johnson derby always brings back good memories because apart from the obvious it was also my wedding day and I still got to go . I married a red as well !

Can see the logic of going to a single pivot in DM, especially with Gomes still out.
                            Pickford
    Coleman   Keane    Zouma   Digne
                               Gana
             Sigurdsson       Bernard
    Richarlison       Tosun       Lookman
Sigurdsson and Bernard both hard working enough to get back in midfield. Lookman because I want to see him play and don't care much for Walcott and Tosun because his link up play is better than DCL, I think dom will struggle against Tarkowski and Mee and Tosun will be up for securing his spot in the squad.

I don’t. Why would anyone want us to finish 8th and not 7th? Crazy. Not only do we earn more prize money we will get (subject to City winning FA cup) European football.  If we want to be a better club we need this to build our profile and attract players. Also it’s another potential route into the Champions League.
I think your perception of the declines of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U is warped. They’ve all be poor this season and are still comfortably above us and that includes us beating all 3 at home!
I want Everton to do the best they very can every season.

I can understand why people are weary of europa league football, but we will never get used to it without consistently being in it. I think Wolves will get 7th anyway, and hopefully we can finish above Watford.
Good job we've had this good run of form, otherwise we'd be well outside of 7th.
