bluenosetoffee got a reaction from Toffee_in_LA in Has Martinez got it wrong?
I have said it once and I will say it again, it is tempo in the game. I know Martinez is all about patient passing and slowing the game down but this season all the tempo has gone out of the game completely. Now teams have cottoned on that if you put pressure on us straight away we will more than likely fall apart.

bluenosetoffee got a reaction from MikeO in Hull City (h)
Why can't we put a game to bed anymore!?

The first half yesterday we were the better team, Hull didn't really threaten. Last season we would score goals! One point we went 4 games scoring 3 goals each time. Now we can't even get a second!

Hull were the better team in the second half. With 10 minutes to go they looked like they were going to score the winner. Listening to the commentators and they said the crowd are urging the team forward but that isn't the Martinez way! I get it, we use patient football but at the same time, with 10 minutes to go and having to pass back to defence or the keeper and not getting it out of your own half is ridiculous. Then when we did get out of our half we gave it back to them straight away! We looked like a team that couldn't play football in the second half and made them look like Bayern Munich with how they were pressing and us pushed back!
I do believe in Martinez and I think he is a good manager but when we are drawing 1-1 a bit of tempo is needed not patient passing and waiting for the opening. Everyone played poor in the second half. Barkley is frustrating at times, can be world class. IF he passes the ball once in a while. It was the same with Sturridge! When he first went to Liverpool he wouldn't pass. He then adapted his game and is now one of the best forwards in the league!

Against Spurs was a great example, Barkley taking on defenders on the edge of the box. Has McGeady on his left, Lukaku on his right (Ok Lukaku was man marked but McGeady wasn't). He had a shot and basically passed it to the keeper!

We are missing McCarthy and Naismith. (Although I think Besic did play better this week than against Spurs). Anyway lets put that game in the back of our minds and focus on beating City on Sunday!

bluenosetoffee got a reaction from Matt in Manchester United (away)
I think he played well against Crystal Palace. He took on defenders and cut inside the box. Gave defenders a real problem. Only problem I have with him is his passing is a bit weak and he doesn't track back. He isn't as technically gifted as Mirallas or even McGeady but he has pace which will cause Man United a lot of problems.

Mirallas will be a big loss for us. I would start Atsu on the right. With his pace and United's defence being the way it is then it is there for the taking.

Rather than instantly locking these threads could these not just be moved to the general sport section and allowed to run their course naturally. There's often more discussion to be had about a player we've 'missed out' on. We're also often linked again to players, sometimes many years later - these thread could then just be moved back to the rumour section rather than being locked and inactive.

Perfectly serious. We have the derby over the weekend, Krasnodar after that, and then away to Manchester United - all within the space of a week. What's the point having a squad if we can't use squad players for the least important of our games?

Why would we sign a player on loan to join the U21 side!? He now plays for Olympiakos so why would we waste one of our loan signings on an U21 reserve player....Does not make sense.

bluenosetoffee got a reaction from Matt in Summer Transfer Window
Little bit disappointed that we didn't get anyone in. I thought we would have signed someone, a defender would have been nice. I think we will get Cleverley in January for 3-4 million or on a pre-contract. Martinez and Cleverley have both made it clear they want to work together again and Everton is his preferred choice. Only way we wouldn't get him is if QPR came in with a ridiculous amount of wage for him.

Overall I think Everton have done well in the summer transfer window. We look good in attack, central midfield is sorted and have a good winger who has pace. Only problem I have is defence, Jags hasn't looked up to it in the 3 games so far. He looks tired and no pace. Distin looks okay but even he hasn't has the best I'd starts. It would have been nice to get one defender in.

Anyway the transfer window has passed and the international break is coming up. Let's get our players back, nice and refreshed and ready for the WBA game. COYB

bluenosetoffee got a reaction from Kant in Matija Nastasic
I think we should have snapped up Dier under Spurs noses. 4 million could be a bargain. Looked strong in defence against Liverpool yesterday. (I know they conceded 3 and could have been more but was one of their better players).

Anyway back on topic - I would love us to go for Nastasic on loan for the season with a view to buy. Would be a great addition to the squad. Coleman, him, Distin and Baines would be a quality. Plus Jags could mentor him as well. Can't see it happening though to be honest. Would be surprised if we pull this one off. Saying that who would have thought we could sign Lukaku and Eto'o.

I've seen unknown play and he totally lacks identity as a player. Don't think he'd fit in here.

How has he become some sort of Richard Wright? He is still a great keeper but it doesn't help that our defence is letting the opposition have shooting practice against our keeper. There is only so much a keeper can do if his defence has been shocking.

The more I think of Eto'o at Everton the more I like it! In two seasons we have gone from Jelavic & Anichebe to Lukaku & Eto'o. I decided to look at some of the goals from last season at Chelsea. He is still tidy on his feet and knows where the back of the net is. He is in the right place at the right time. He will score goals like Sturridge did on the 1st day of the season vs Southampton. Right place right time but is also great on the ball.

I am really looking forward to seeing him play now and seeing what he can do in an Everton shirt!!

I liked Duffy, thought he never really got the chance at Everton. A couple of seasons ago he looked decent. Let's see how he gets on at Blackburn. Good luck to him

Did anybody see Rodwell play for Sunderland against United. He looked decent, got forward and defended well. I always rated Rodwell when he was at Everton but injuries was a problem with him. If he could stay fit for Sunderland then they have a real player on their hands.
