Cornish Steve got a reaction from Avinalaff in Upcoming crest announcement (2014/15 onwards)
The crest looks like a knight in armour returning from the Crusades. It rather reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Will the new motto be "the knights that go nil satis nisi optimum"?

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Matt in Marouane Fellaini
I agree. Young was atrocious. Rio was awful. Indeed, everyone but Rooney was pathetic. There were hopes, though. that Fellaini would single-handedly solve ManU's midfield woes, and that didn't happen. The fans expected too much.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from efc1111 in David Moyes thread
In the post-game press interview, DM just repeated his stupid allegation of the early fixture list being rigged against him: "The start to the season could be a lot better. We did say it could be difficult start. I wasn't convinced when the balls came out of the Premier League bag and I'm still not convinced."
Here's what the BBC website has to say about that: "Moyes' repeated suggestion that the fixture list was somehow engineered to give United a tough start is also a difficult one to understand. It seems far-fetched, pointless now the season has started and an open invite for the Football Association to investigate whether he has brought the game into disrepute."
Sometimes, in the face of embarrassment, it's best just to admit to a bad day, shut up, and move on.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Sideliner in David Moyes thread
You have to think why, with all the talent at ManU, were they so completely outplayed today? I wonder whether part of it is the lack of substitutions so far this season and a lack of player rotation. Ferdinand just played three full games in seven days, for example, and he's already struggling to keep up. Why not rest him mid-week? Why not use all three substitutes today to give him a break and to keep others match-ready? Up-front, they have not played Zaha all season. Why ever not?
I'm so pleased to see how we're using substitutes, and I hope we rotate players mid-week as well. There's little point in having a squad with more depth if you don't take advantage of it. They are not there simply to fill in when there are injuries.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Sibdane in Chelsea (Home)
It's amazing how different a game can appear when you only watch the highlights. The MOTD highlights were already mentioned, but it's also true of the extended highlights shown at EvertonTV. Barry doesn't seem special at all whereas Osman appears awesome. It's a pity we're becoming such an instant society, with players being assessed from 30-minute YouTube videos and audiences being duped to some extent by watching carefully edited highlights. It's rather unfair on the 'graft' players.

Never underestimate West Ham at home. Plus, there's always a danger after a high to hit an unexpected low. Nonetheless, I do expect us to win.

Howard and jagielka also mentioned. No player from ManU included.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Bailey in Martinez won't last the season
Geez. What a negative post. You sound just like Moyes.

These two teams provide most of England's defensive line. It's no surprise they are two of the three unbeaten teams in the league (Liverpool being the third).

Barry, Naismith, and Barkley all playing well.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Hafnia in Why do people hate America ?
Today is 9/11 and I started the day by driving through Manhattan and admiring the new Liberty tower built on the rubble of the twin towers. It's symbolic of the nation. It may have its problems, but it has a resilience that means it will always bounce back. On the actual 9/11, I ws flying from Zurich to New Delhi. It took two weeks to get home, although most of that time was spent with family in Cornwall. At one point, while driving down the M5, classic fm played Barber's Adagio for Strings to remember the 9/11 victims. I had to pull over. It was one of the very few times in life that I could do nothing but cry.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from GoodisonRoad in Rhino appointed U21s assistant manager
Oh no. Not another former Wigan player!
Sounds like a solid appointment. I agree about the enthusiasm. It's really pays off with the youngsters.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Matt in Victor Anichebe (Confirmed exit)
Not meaning to minimize Anichebe's record and abilities at all, but statistics have to be clarified sometimes. It may be true that Everton won more games when he played than when he did not play; however, is that because he was played against weaker teams in the league?
I do hope the player has a good season at WBA and realizes more of his potential.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Matt in Squad Numbers
Oh no. What have I started? Is this discussion real or imaginary? Is it the first in a series? How do I sum it all up? Am I now an integral part of the forum? So many permutations - my head hurts.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from markjazzbassist in Who will likely be in our first team squad?
As mentioned in another thread, I would anticipate the following line-up - assuming a 3-5-2 formation.
Howard
Alcaraz Jagielka Distin
Coleman Baines
McCarthy Barry Barkley
Kone Lukaku
Depending on the opposition, I can see Deulefeu, Pienaar, and Gibson being used as starters, too. Robles would cover Howard, Stones and Heitinga would cover in defence, Oviedo would cover for Baines, Pienaar and Gibson would cover in midfield, and Deulefeu and Vellios would cover up-front. Frankly, based on their performances to date, Osman, Mirallas, and Jelavic need to prove their form in training before returning to the first team. Also, Naismith and Hibbert are going to struggle to get back into the team.
