Yeah we could have pissed it all away on some last minute signing we didn’t really want. Patience mate, this window believe it or is a better direction than what we have shown the last 2/3 years.

I believe we genuinely tried for Dumfries and had we got that one over the line I’d be so much more relieved but not to be.

We’ve needed a RB for five years now and just got 25-30m in transfers, we spent 1.5m.  It didn’t need to be last minute, could have been early in the window.  We got nothing.  Surely brands had more than 3 names on his list for RB?  When dumfries Aaron’s Ainsley went down he’s got others right?  I would fucking hope so. Same old Everton.  I remember when we’d make all these excuses with moyes and how “we wanted to and tried but money wasn’t there”, funny same lines still be toted around here.

Also, Benitez has one of the easiest set of early fixtures of any recent manager. It's way too soon to judge his abilities. Let's see whether we beat Liverpool and Spurs again this season and how well we do against MC, MU, and Chelsea. That's the real test.

Spot on, people getting all excited we have played no one, Carlo had us top of the league.  Let’s wait till after the holidays and see where we are at

  3. The lack of a proper Everton (not loan) RB to succeed Coleman is a crime that has been committed since the Steve Walsh days.  Brands whole entire tenure we have needed to fill that hole, and it looks to be another year without filling.  Absolutely criminal.  Coleman will get injured, he will miss time, it’s a fact, I love the guy but he’s old and has a lot of miles on that body.

Well, ideally a balance between the 2.

But also, we can't go buying all the top young talent if the more recently successful and richer clubs go for them too.

yeah i think that's where the "diamond in the roughs" are supposed to come in.  Everyone is going for "amazing brazilian kid" and we have no chance, so look for the french kid, or spanish or english or scottish, etc. that might be under the radar.  I love the demarai gray signing, this is what i'm talking about.  he was outta our reach, flopped, and we snapped him up on the cheap.  sometimes they just need another chance, mental coaching, some maturity (these are basically kids trying to balance adult life with work), etc.  basically it's buying lotto tickets.  you buy em cheap and buy a good amount (chelsea) and see which ones hit.  would also  be nice if the academy could produce something too

Just to be clear mate, they're not Android. Rather, they use Android. Also, the service isn't model dependent, its just they dont ship there yet. When you go to change in a year or so (I assume you got an iphone which will programmed to fail), hopefully they'll be shipping to the US. But good find, if I hadn't recently changed mine I would go for that.

yep sorry thats what i meant, they use android.  they do ship to the US now, but they don't have agreements with the cell tower owners.  SIDE NOTE:  in the US the cell towers are owned by different companies, they are not state owned.  meaning some companies have better service (verizon is good where i live, Sprint is bad, AT&T is ok) in different areas depending on what towers they own (or what deals they strike with owners of other towers).

So all that to say they have a note on Fairphone support page saying they dont' offer 4G service in the US, it's mostly 3G or 2G.  That's just not gonna work for me, i do a fair bit of camping in the middle of nowhere and need a phone that can get me directions to/from.  i barely get by with Verizon.

Because usually a "flop" at regular title contenders is often still better than a starting 11 player of a mid table team. A flop at a mid table team is only going to interest lower level teams who have less money.

yeah i've had a think as well, i think it also has to do with them snapping up premium talent at young ages, so when they don't make the grade they are still an asset.  this is why i'm always banging the drum about buying young players and not 30 year old somethings (unless it's world class vet).

I just don’t know how he’s managed to flop at United and then get sold for a massive profit (especially considering the current financial climate). Can we interest Leeds in Iwobi at £40M considering?

this is what someone else said in another thread.  United, chelsea, Liverpool, spurs, do this all the time.  they sell flops for big money.  everton is stuck with theirs and can never sell.  why?

  8. good job brands, small profit, but profit nonetheless.  we paid 27.5m euro for him, we make the money on the loan fee.  he won't hit the accelerators because like i said they are lofty goals (pun intended) and non likely to be hit.  it's not the big profit we were led to believe we'd get as he was hot property at one time, but we didn't lose money.

  9. yes apple sucks but in my research there is only 1 ethical phone manufacturer, FairPhone.  They are android and use ethical metals and recycled gold and plastic.  issue is they are only good in europe, it doesn't have great service in the US.  Also Apple got better reviews than Samsung as a company on a few different things, so until FairPhone gets US coverage i'm stuck.

Lastly, my phone is paid off, so i'm not looking to get a new one until it breaks.

I do find it funny when you talk about fickle fans when you're the biggest flip-flop I know

Sure sure, but not with James :)  so I’m half qualified to say this stuff in this thread ;)

in all seriousness I can’t believe people want rid of a class player who regularly created or scored goals.  It’s the same attitude people have with Richarlison and had with lukaku.  Honestly, why don’t people want to keep our good players?  The grass isn’t greener on the other side, we saw that with lukaku sale.  It’s like the shiny new thing syndrome or something ffs

  11. I will be very sad, we have all clamored for a world class player, we get one and people nitpik the one flaw he has instead of looking at the amazing talents he has.  Honestly after the treatment he’s gotten on here I’m not at all surprised we haven’t won anything in decades.  Fickle fans who would prefer a jobber headless chicken over world class.  You reap what you sow.

Agreed. Chelsea have spent the summer shipping out the likes of Tomori to Milan for 30 million euros (fucking 30 million for him!) and Tammy Abraham to Roma for 40 million (?!?), Liverpool are mugging teams off for their dross like Shaqiri and Harry Wilson...and we're sending this kid out on a 2 year loan. I dunno, I'll have to trust that the board think this is the best we can do, but it's still annoying watching Chelsea build up a war chest on the backs of players who barely ever made their bench.

    amen!

We bought a young lad, who was highly rated enough in Italy to be a full international. I think everyone has acknowledged that this is the model we needed to building on. Buy young, build them up and then sell for a profit. Som times it comes off and other times not. We're not one United, Chelsea, Arsenal or the shite who seem to be able sell bang average youth players for millions more than they're worth.

Point me in the direction of the young speculators that Walsh bought for us please who made us so much money, because genuinely I can't think of any that he brought to the club. We spunked overs on Bolasie, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Tosun etc instead who have probably cost us more as a club in the grand scheme.

I don't know the ins and outs of loan deals, but always assumed the wages were paid for by the club alongside a fee. Happy to be proven wrong with facts...

walsh regime bought dominic calvert lewin for 1.5m, Idrissa Gueye for 7.6m (sold for 27m), Lookman for 8m (sold for 16m), and Vlasic for 10m (sold for 14m).  the DCL deal alone is remarkable.  Gana for more than 3 times what we paid, lookman for double (could have had 3 times had we sold earlier), and vlasic for a small profit but a profit nonetheless.

brands will be selling players he bought for big (gomes, mina, kean, etc) and all the values being rumored so far (bar mina) are less than what we paid.

Glad to hear. I was just surprised about the company was all.

yeah good point, honestly i'd not looked into their practices until you said this, found a million articles within a couple second google search.  i own an iphone as well, wife owns a macbook.  i guess my question to myself is if i go off apple, is android/competition any better or is it just a different packaged version of the same thing really?  my issue with amazon is that i can actually buy (and do!) from local booksellers, local shops, local grocery stores that are local businesses and have better business practices (i can physically see it, talk to their employees, have friends that work there).  thats evident.  i'm not sure if switching electronics provider (or removing apple tv) gives me a tangible result of improvement.  does android not source rare earth minerals?  is their manufacturing stateside or is it also in some massive china sketchy joint?  (need to look).

i appreciate the thought provoking question matt, i really do, it's one of the reasons i enjoy you on this forum.  so now i guess i need to do more research.
