The difference in passing skills is enormous.  As is the alertness factor.  Arsenal play and think crisply.  We do neither.

We had like 30% of the ball in that game as well. This is the issue with the likes of Gana & Doucoure who offer plenty of running but very limited technical ability

Elston Gunnn got a reaction from Boston Toffee in André Gomes
I’ve no idea whether he’ll be here.  But the squad is awfully thin in numbers.  Gomes does have strengths: ball control, ball protection, passing.  But he’s so slow and thus is a first-half yellow card waiting to happen as opponents glide past him.
So don’t start him, ever.  But he can help at 65-70 minutes, when opponents tire a bit, thus rendering Gomes only a little, rather than a whole lot, slower.  The Everton attack (pardon the exaggeration) can go through him.  On occasion effectively.

So sad what we are. No energy at all. Players standing around watching. No true game plan. Take out the 2 yellows and put 2 kids in

11 headless chickens in blue running around ... No plan, drive, determination or slightest imagination. How many times we have allowed them to cross in from their flanks...seems they will score more.

He coasts too much for me and plays like he’s in an international match.  It’s the premier league and he has all the attributes to be a top midfielder like viera, big powerful, long legs, box to box.

But that’s the problem mate it’s not just the fault of Maupay we have poor finishers upfront and in midfield, the only player to give a goal return you would expect for his position last season was McNeil with 7 not prolific but a decent return no one else came close to matching that, and from yesterday’s game we can see again that Iwobi Onana Doucoure and Maupay won’t be changing that stat any time soon. The build up play is good we created more chances than you should need to to win the game. Iwobi’s saving grace for me is his work ethic and creativity, last season he was in the top 4-5 in the league with 8 assists which was huge in a team that only scored 34 goals.

I was disappointed with all the players who missed chances, as if we needed to know this was just another game that highlighted that we haven’t got goals in the team and we haven’t really done much to improve it.

Or just be able to old the ball up would be great plus for front man at the moment.

More on Youssef Chermiti, young striker now with Sporting CP.

I’m always leery of the phrase “looks set,” but I’m also desperate enough to hope we sign him, as he might actually be a striker who could score a few goals.

The admission from Dyche that they haven’t managed to get the players they targeted for the striker’s role I find hugely disturbing, now we are going to be looking at other players that weren’t in the frame a few days ago, so potentially that means we get a player or players that are not ideally suited and end up panicking once again because we know we can’t survive with what we have.

I think there are a lot of reasons why targeted players might not come here.
I personally don't think the stadium would be too much of a pull until we are actually in it and playing Premier League football inside it.
It seems like we have finally regained some control of the purse strings so we aren't just paying silly money to players who don't warrant it. Secondly, we aren't an attractive proposition. We have had two season fighting relegation and there is the turmoil regarding the ownership/management of the club. Thirdly, there has to be a slight question mark over whether players in certain positions would benefit from being at a different club, for example wide players who maybe don't want to have to track back so much, or central strikers who can play in an attacking team such as the comparison with Atalanta vs Everton for El Bilal Toure. If that is the case though, we probably don't really want them after all. We don't need another Kean on our hands who thinks they are too good to do the donkey work.
I do also think it would be a little naive to not think that there is a bit of a stigma around Dyche's style of football which may put some players off but I would rather have a manager that knows how he wants certain players to play and gets them to be effective compared to someone like Lampard who could talk a good game, sign them up and not have a clue what to do when they arrived.

Firstly - I don't think we are offering mega money deals to average players which is a good thing. Walsh was able to get so many players in because he literally threw money at them & it broke us.

Secondly - Dyche didn't create this shit show, there is really not much he can sell here right now & no player agent is going to recommend their client coming to us over mid table Spanish/Italian teams right now given the negativity around us. Protests, hostility & the board's (stupid) accusation of threats will affect players coming here. Constant managerial changes - what player will honestly believe they can develop here right now going off our recent trend?

We need to find a couple of solid, good players and just grind out this season for a mid table finish. Not for one second do I believe that should be the ambition of this club but it is the sad, realistic situation we are in.

Until we find stability on & off the pitch this will continue.

Iwobi looked central with Young mostly out wide further forward. Godfrey LB, Gana just buzzed around the middle of the park.
I think Maupay played CB for Wigan which I thought was strange….

I do get the impression that the club and Dyche have tried to treat him well; helping him with his recovery and giving him the patience and time he needs.
The interview he did recently obviously shed a lot of light on what was going on, and he seemed to really be wanting to get back to his best.
I do hope that he can do that, and it would be great to see him do that that with us, because there is a very good player in there somewhere.
I would like to think that he will be given a chance here to show what he can do. But if the club and the player decide that a loan spell to the Championship would be better for his recovery, then I suppose you can't argue with that.
Depression, addiction, trauma... these are not things that you just wake up one day and are free from. It takes time to heal.
Whatever happens he'll need support to get back to fulfilling his potential, but I'm not going to lie; I would love that potential to be fulfilled in an Everton shirt with the the full support of the club and the fans behind him.

Agreed. Want him to be given a chance.
If he's not performing than obviously move him on, but to say 'We're here for you..........but don't want want you' wouldn't sit right with me.
But I'm no expert on the issues he's suffering with, so don't know how best to help him
I'd prefer us to back him and at least let him try and perform in training / friendlies
Either way, I was never anti-dele, he's a superb player who improves us. But that's not the main focus now, I just hope he can get the help he needs to move forwards in his life. Football is a by-product of him being 'happy' again

It will be interesting to see if he plays any part in our upcoming friendlies, that will give us a better indication on his future. I think the fans also deserve to see if he has moved in the right direction since we last saw him kick a ball for us, otherwise I for one will feel betrayed after all the years of talking about Dele as a player and a person, then to just let him go without being able to judge if right or wrong in football terms only.

our squad will be stronger next season with him in the club. Will keep Mykolenko on his toes, if not out of the starting 11. These kind of '12month' signing gives you breathing room on developing a squad. Both left and right back positions now covered for this season? The bigger money spends can be elsewhere in the squad - its fucking needed.

It is the players decision, but there is a big shift this past 5-10years or so - where the talk is very much of the big 4 then the big 6.
17 years old kids have grown up with this wall to wall media on these teams. Everything else is kind of second rate in many eye. Bit like having the latest iphone - other phone's just not the same.
I do keep mentioning that we are not a fashionable club at the moment - and this sort of perception is important to youngster.
Everton being a big club with a great history means very little to players of this generation. All they have ever know Everton as is a struggling time.

My position is that I think he has all the attributes to be a first teamer for us but I have no idea if he'll actually translate that on to the pitch, so I'd just like him to be given the chance so we can see if he's the real deal or not.
We won't know until we give him a go.
