While I get the sentiment behind peeps wanting these youngsters to start, and while I've never thought we were in danger of going down...If we start experimenting with line ups now, we could balls it right up!

With just 9 games to go, let's get some points on the board, reach 36-40 points ASAP and then give game time to the next generation...when it absolutely doesn't matter what the result us to us.

Looking forward to the game. Always do.

Not sure what the problem is with the Hibbert contract? He's stepped in when needed this season and he's probably on very low wages. The Hibbert contract is the least of my concerns.

If you want to see more poor tactics, poor line-ups and poor subs then Moyes is your man.

    Short memories some people.

Probably in a minority but I remain a Martinez loyalist; too much knee-jerk reaction tonight to things out of his control. Go have a look at the Alcaraz comments in the Newcastle threads; he was "immense" and "a beast". Why would he not pick him after a performance like that? Who could predict Seamus being so poor? Admittedly he should've subbed him (Alcaraz) at half time and he has issues with his Barry obsession but so did Moyes with Neville.

Would definitely give him the summer, and Kenwright will, because he more than deserves it after last season.

    Who mentioned you?

Although, as you bring it up, you did fairly recently say, "give him another year and if we're still...." etc so you happily fit the "...people who've honestly changed their minds and acknowledged as much....". Where's the problem?

How you can construe that as addressed at you is ridiculous. Paranoid.

We need to see an improvement in the next 9 games too.

I'm an open fan of Martinez and what he says about football etc...but he is on trial now. No doubt about it.

Agreed, stupid defensive mistakes (Alcaraz was MOTM for many on Sunday so no reason to expect his ineptitude, Coleman has been great recently so I don't see how the manager could have seen them hitting the self destruct button) and some world class finishing have done for us. Ross hit the post twice; it could have been very different, particularly if the first one had gone in.

Depressing, but I'm not as suicidal as some.

The only positive tonight has been the performance of Ross.
He has been lively tonight and looked like his old self.

Ok people, my first post on the forum so please be gentile. I couldn't think of another, more suitable way of making my first comment other than having a go at the lineup for tonight.

    So here goes....

    Howard

    Coleman Stones Jags Baines

    McCarthy Gibson Besic

    Naisy

    Lukaku Kone

At first glance I thought width may be an issue here but I think width can be created (if needed) through the marauding Coleman and Baines and possibly when Kone and Lukaku pull off their markers. I want a high energy side, hence the inclusion of a central McCarthy, Besic and Naisy.

I wasn't sure to post something like this so I thought this thread was safest:

I'm an American who came around to Everton fairly recently. Like a lot of Americans though, I've loved soccer for years--supporting our national team since they qualified for the World Cup in 1992 after 50 years out of the competition. But I didn't have an EPL team until recently and I picked Everton.

All that said, I fucking love Everton. I'm new at loving Everton, but I love Everton. I know we are having a tough season but I'll never support another EPL team. I picked my team. I love my team and I'm not changing. This message board is awesome and part of the reason I want to support Everton always.

It's late at night to starting faking sickness, so I might have to pull some shit tomorrow in the early afternoon. I do feel a cough coming on that people in the office wouldn't want to catch.

He'd be the first name on the teamsheet for the rest of the season for me if he keeps up the level of performance from Sunday He's had a big break so should be fresh and he makes us tick, he's the link we've been missing and the presence we've been missing.

    You should be already IMO

You stated categorically at the start of the season that he would not improve and what we saw then was the finished article. Over time you have since back tracked and said it was his touch that would never improve and now you have begrudgingly conceded that it in fact has improved

Yes he has had some really poor performances this season but that is a reflection of how the entire team has performed and the style of play and you don't seem to want to acknowledge that. As soon as we started going a bit more direct Lukaku has come to life and started banging the goals in, that's no coincidence

The lad is still young and still developing as a player. I can remember Graham Sharp at the same age when he came down from Dumbarton and he didn't have half of the potential Lukaku has and he didn't turn out too badly. He learnt a lot from Andy Gray and his game developed ten fold. I firmly believe Lukaku can do the same from Ferguson

Depends on what you're expecting as progress. The lad is continuing to finish 90 minutes, in more games, developing his team play, whilst still dragging the team through the competitions with his goals and assists. Has he been as prolific as he was last season? No, but we thats because for 5-6 months we completely changed our approach with him, asking him mature and develop.

Martinez took a gamble and tried changing too much, too soon in the first half of the season. But with that gamble, he has laid foundations, and foundations only, for Lukaku to be the complete striker he and his manager think he can be.

There are massive strides in his development this year, just not as easy to see as goals scored.

    Robles on form - Dropped
    Garbutt on form - Dropped
    Gibson on form - ....

Pattern needs to change. Baines coming back less of a blow because we played well. I think osman allowed Baines to play well though.

I hope RM sits down with the players and shows them a "this is what you were doing" - "this is what you are doing right".

With Rom I see a glimer of hope with his back to goal play. Thje glimmer of hope is that he is not thinking about his next ball before he has it under control. He seems to be concentrating on just getting it under and then making his choice.

When I moved into a central role from out wide and played as a target man I had a pretty good team mate who coincidentally was at Everton up to 14, his control was daft - his nickname was velcro. He said one of the tricks is to relax when it comes to you, if you are thinking about "must control and lay off to that man there - you tense up, relax and stay soft footed".

Rom seems to be doing that, I have to hold my hands up and admit he has done some pieces of control that were beyond him. I do think we will still see the odd shinner but he is making progress.

I honestly do think that whatever anyone thinks of Kone, he is gonna benefit Rom. 2 lads up front 6ft 2+ with decent size, strength and pace is a nightmare. I love Naismith and he is one of the best in the air but I honestly think those 2 could be a good wrecking ball for Naisy to come on in the last 20 minutes or so.

Football watching in the "old days" (I may have told this story before so if it's old news I apologise).

One of the first top flight games I went to was at Loftus Road when I was about eight, QPR had signed a goalkeeper called Alan Spratley from our local non-league club (where we were season ticket holders) and he was making his debut so we went to watch them play West Ham.

Ground was being redeveloped at the time so they had no proper toilets, so instead had a row of metal dustbins for the "gents" (fuck knows what the ladies was like). No drainage so after a long queue dying for a piss I was presented with a bin full to the brim.....surface tension in fact...and I had to stand on tip toe to get my infantile weapon above the level...you get the idea. No idea what you were supposed to do if you needed a shit .

Unsurprisingly, that memory is still with me pushing fifty years later.

It was a 1-1 draw. I remember that too.

Hope our away fans find better facilities next week-end .

Im completely the opposite. I want to take something from this shit pile of a season. As long as we finish 17th or higher I couldn't care about the league. Obviously most people are of the belief that we'll be flat out reaching 17th, but I'd like to respectfully disagree with that.

how indeed. Were in a relegation battle, I'm desperate.
Barkley has proven he's not up to speed this season, Kone has looked promising in his cameos. Plus, he is used to relegation scraps, experience we unfortunately need at the moment.

We could play any formation and still look shite. Our speed of play is our hindrance and needs sorting before anything.
