I highly doubt Dom will be able to maintain this scoring level, but to have 7 goals in all comps at the end of September is remarkable. Especially exciting to see considering how hard of a time he had post-lockdown

Give your heads a wobble too, we want to win trophies - this is what happens. Injuries are part and parcel of the game, I'd happily take a cup win and a few injuries than playing the Academy and going another season without lifting fuck all.

Allan is done as well. Judging by his reaction is a nasty one as well. Groin injuries are fuckers.
I am surprised he started. He has been great and it is probably a good thing he did start but this is all new for him over here and it takes its toll.
It also means James is playing until the end. Which at the moment is a problem both because his defensive effort is lacking when we need it but also because he also isn't someone we want suffering from fatigue and getting injured!

I would put Bernard on for James now, just to protect him for the Brighton match.

The fact that Richie was able to jog up and down the touchline suggests that it's not a bad injury, just an ankle roll which will give some pain immediately but will evaporate after a couple of hours. I'd be surprised (and gutted) if this kept him out of the Brighton game, even though it's cut his afternoon short here.
ffs, Allan's groin has gone. That's him out for a few weeks.

dunlopp9987 reacted to Elston Gunnn in US Politics/Biden Presidency (Trump-free zone)
This is a follow-up to my post last week.  It’s an update re our rapid descent into a constitutional crisis.  There’s a bit of American history here. Hope it doesn’t bore and that, instead, both the brief history commentary and the discussion of the Supreme Court justices is helpful in understanding the specific way Republicans intend to steal the upcoming Presidential election.  That is their fascist intent.
In the pandemic, we in the U.S. are seeing the revenge of American radical individualism — “Nobody can make me wear a mask!”  (You probably have some of that in England and Europe, too.  Sorry if you’ve adopted elements of our extreme individualism and nihilism.)  Absent an overwhelming Biden victory, we should expect Electoral College chaos, in which we should further expect to witness the revenge of the Founding Fathers’ skepticism about democracy.
Distrusting nascent democracy, equating it with “lesser men, licentiousness, and mob rule,” the Founders offered, as one historian put it, “an elitist theory of democracy.”  They intended to “filter” democratic urges, in several ways, through the “best men.”  Under pressure to accommodate new democratic impulses, they wrote a constitution to control those impulses.
Over time, of course, our Constitution has undergone democratization.  But Republican reactionary populism and fascism — convincing large segments of “the people” to undercut their own class interests in favor of culture war triumphalism — relies on minority rule.
Trump and Republican leaders do believe the polls that consistently show Trump will lose if the election proceeds in anything approaching a normal fashion.  They hold out hope that “hidden” Trump voters will emerge, but they don’t count on that.
So Republicans are planning to create a constitutional crisis.  Trump has already been doing that through a variety of incendiary statements.  Republican leaders, now acolytes of Justice Gorsuch’s “originalism” and “textualism,” will be quoting the Constitution’s Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 2: “Each State shall appoint, in such manner as the legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors....”  We have seen no evidence thus far to think Republicans in battleground states will act honorably and democratically.  Because Republicans control, through gerrymandering, the state legislatures in most of the fiercely contested states, even if Biden appears clearly to have won said states, these Republicans will point to “ballot chaos” and appoint an “alternate slate” of electors, pledged to support Trump.
Will the Supreme Court decide the election?  If so, I’d assume right-wingers Thomas, Alito, and Barrett will support fascism.  The 3 liberals will vote to uphold democracy.  That leaves Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch, all conservatives.  Justice Gorsuch, “accepting” his own “originalist/textualist” arguments presented by Republican counsel, could easily find that the Founding Fathers empowered state legislatures, not voters, to select the electors to the Electoral College.  How could he not rule according to his own fastidious judicial philosophy?
In that ominous scenario, would Roberts and Kavanaugh uphold democracy?  I suppose Roberts would himself prefer to support democracy, and thus the Biden electors.  But if he knows, as he would, that Kavanaugh intends to support the Trump electors, then Roberts might reluctantly vote with the fascists, as Roberts might prefer a 6-3 to a 5-4 Trump majority.  Would Roberts and/or Kavanaugh prefer any 6-3 [likely Trump] decision to any 5-4 [possibly Biden] decision?  I’ll guess Kavanaugh will be the key.  I’m just guessing.  Who knows what exactly will happen throughout November, what Trump and other fascists will do, what outraged Democrats will say and do.
I hope Trump and I are both misreading the Supreme Court.  As long as I’m hoping, I’ll hope for a 9-0 decision repudiating the fascists’ attempt to overthrow our constitutional democratic republic.  Given the praise among Trump supporters for a “generational conservative Court,” a repudiation (even 7-2) by that conservative Court of an attempted coup would go a long way toward breaking our fascist fever.

Buoyed by their first ever PL title in 20/21, Everton improved the squad further over the next summer. They prevailed on four fronts, winning another PL title, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and, famously, their first CL crown, demolishing Liverpool 5-0 in front of no one. TT posters were somewhat divided about whether this constituted a successful season. Most, however, were too drunk to take the last few months in.

I just worry that once we have won the Champions League the players will have a shortened summer break and might struggle with the three-peat the following season.
We might have to buy someone like Hazard to rotate with James.

Of course. We’ll just have the strengthen in the summer. Maybe Mbappe to give us a different option off the bench.

Anything less than 100 points and Champs league final and i would expect Carlo to get sacked and take the dross he signed ( James, Allan & Doucoure ) with him to West Ham or Newcastle.

Does no one actually get that he means we win it this season and he's asking if we then retain it the season after?

Considering we're on track for a record 114 points and a league title. Will we be able to balance midweek games against Real Madrid with another 100+ points finish next season?

Good teams find ways to win when they're not at their best. We were not at our best today, but find a way to win the game. A massive amount of luck with the second goal but it keeps our 100% record and we're top of the league.

Hope Ancelotti gives them a little bit of a telling off too, take away that farcial penalty and it's 1-1. Despite an unbelievable first 10 or so minutes we've looked poor IMO. Very sloppy in and around our own half and not really dealing with anything that Palace throw at us, with a bit more quality we'd have some more questions asked of us I feel.
Doucoure is looking proper shite, would give him a rocket with the idea of bringing on Sigurdsson if he doesn't turn things around before the hour mark. Gomes looks OK but a bit lethergic, another one that just needs a bit of a rocket. Allan and James doing well along with DCL and Charlie (though the latter needs a boot kicking at him for their goal).
Defensively we look OK, but I just don't have faith in us to see out a one-goal lead with what happened against Fleetwood. Sounds very easy for me to say, but a nice early goal to make it 3-1 and then shut up shop would be ideal.

Quote from Johan Cruyff that has always stuck with me - ''The rules are made by those who have never played the game''. I'm sorry but anyone thinking that's a penalty needs to give their head a wobble, I don't care that we've benefitted the game has gone and that's an absolute farce. Defenders cannot play properly with their arms cellotaped to their sides, Kelly did absolutely nothing wrong there and it's a joke that they even looked at it twice, nevermind called the referee over to look at it and then give the penalty.
It's benefitted us here, but it'll go against us later in the season and against every team every single week. We'll be seeing 3-4 penalties a game at this rate, it's just an utter shambles. Those behind this ''rule-change'' are blokes who got picked last on the school playground and now get their kicks from making up shite like this. Fucking abysmal in every sense of the word.
