Funny you say this, as I'm currently reading Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and he speaks on the idea of "race"...here's the quote from the book:

If we have to have Lossl for another season but that means we can have an extra midfielder or afford more quality out wide I would be happy with that. 

I don't see Pickford being dropped by Ancelotti. For some reason goalkeepers get a free pass when it comes to poor form (i.e. Romero is arguably the best back up keeper in the world yet De Gea's form never seems to matter). I wouldn't mind us signing an experienced keeper on a free who isn't going to demand a lot of wages so we can invest elsewhere.
Agree with the other postions you mentioned though. A powerhouse in midfield along with a pacey winger who can get balls in the box would be ideal. 
I'd love a centre half who can calm the defence down and who doesn't make you nervous 5 times a game. I think we need an experienced CB who could bring the best out of Holgate.
I'm really not bothered about the ages of the players we sign. As long as we add quality I'm happy. Adding the right experience to this young team would really be helpful.

I've been on this soapbox for a bit, and will continue to shout it from proverbial soapbox. I actually think Jordan is a good enough keeper for us, but he just has absolutely no one breathing down his neck for the starting spot, which leads to complacency. He can flail around and make boneheaded mistakes because he knows he will always be out there between the sticks. Legitimate competition for the #1 shirt could maybe push him to improve his game, but until that happens, he'll continue to plateau and remain a serviceable keeper, but not a great one. 

Again, I don't understand all of these links to a number nine unless we are already set on selling Richy or DCL in the window. 
CM, RM and CB for me is what we need. And a backup keeper who can actually provide legitimate competition for Pickford.

Very good agility and shot stopper but his hands, judgement and attitude are crap. He's not good enough as it is and there is a profit to be made here by selling him and signing a cheaper, but better, replacement. I'd address this immediately. Chelsea may look to replace Kepa and Sheffield need to replace Henderson unless he's loaned again. Palace, West Ham and Leeds might be options as well but the fee won't be as high for them. Mat Ryan, Pope, Ramsdale all good enough. 

Come on guys it's one goal. Davies against City could compete with this and look at how we view him at the moment. Also Juve lost 4-2 to an average Milan team - Rabiot was subbed off in the 69th min after Milan scored 3 goals in 5 mins. He's probably better than any player we have here now but that's not saying much is it. We need a f***ing ball winner.

We don't really have anyone to blame here. Carlo only has 2 cm to work with. Schneiderlin wanted to go, Gbamin and Delph can't stay fit, Besic is ineligible. It is completely unfair to Davies and Gomes to expect them to carry a 2 man midfield every 3 days under the best of circumstances forget about the 3 month pause and Gomes' injury. We're just fucked and until the window opens we have to hope for some luck. I'm much more discouraged by our defensive errors recently. Thought we were getting that sorted.
