I’m not ready to give up on him just yet.
This was a stupid thing to do, but even the likes of Kyle Walker and Jose Mourinho have broken these rules. I’m by no means saying it’s ok, but people of all levels in the game have done similar. Give him the grief he deserves, but I want to judge his Everton future by what he does on the pitch. I’ve still got faith in his ability.

Why have you got no confidence in Brands signings? I would keep the vast majority of the players we’ve brought since he began his role... it’s many of the ones before he started who we need to move on.

No confidence in Brands signings would be happier if it was a player Ancelotti wanted

i'm sorry i think you misunderstood, i'm not saying to buy to resell, i'm saying buy young to get the world beaters before they are world beaters, ala ronaldo at united, not ronaldo at madrid.  Going for broke on 1 or 2 campaigns is short sighted and something we've been doing for years.

Yep, agree with @markjazzbassist and @Aidan.
Nerves clearly at play.  Work rate/pressing was likely playing it safe and maintaining position - although the pressing was pretty light on from the whole team.
Holgate & DCL are perfect examples of what 1st team game time can do for player development.  Both were written off by plenty early on.
Hope Gordon gets plenty more minutes this year, before a full season loan next year.  Skills and nous are there, needs game time and confidence.

Opportunity missed there, should be 2 points off 5th.
Kean was about early, but there's no real rapport between himself and DCL.  Will take time.
Thought Gordon grew into the game.  Has good feet, knows how to keep the ball, and got into some good areas.
Holgate by far the standout, Pickford also good.  Thought DCL's touch was pretty good today, but service was poor and he got more frustrated than usual.

mods please move this to general everton now, he's all grown up

i thought he did fine on his debut.  he could have worked a little harder at his pressing but he had a couple decent give and go's with digne, had that one nice run and then just overshot the pass a little, but you can see the talent is there.  i'm sure he was nervous as hell too.  i'd like to see more of him.

He was scared to take a risk today. He's got ability but mentally wasnt prepared to do what he normally does in the u23s. Next time I want to see him play with more creativity. That aside showed a couple of nice touches.

I thought he was pretty good today. Got a nosebleed every time he got into the final third, but that’s more because he is trying so hard.

This has to be the game that Gordon gets a decent run out, the cupboard is empty of attacking options.  Don't want to see the likes of Niasse, or shoehorning someone else, in over the top.
With the tricky games of those above us, have a real chance to end the week a game off 5th.

That's still a fact of life unless you are owned by arabs or are called Real Madrid. Our turnover is half of Spurs's and even less against the other top teams. We will not buy better players than them if we just buy players at their prime.

No need to qualify it with "some [other/lower] team" I reckon.  He's only, just, 23.  He's good enough to play now.  He's aggressive, keen to take on a challenge, and seems to be becoming far more confident in his ability/right to be in the epl.  Still plenty of scope for a leap forward in ability/growth as a player.

At a guess I'd say that follows possession stats.  They've got the ball more and are pushing it around, forcing other teams to run.  Doesn't mean they don't work hard when they don't have it, just that they need to do it less.

Dunc turned to him early and he put in a shift.  The crowd got behind him and he didn't seem to have any ill feeling towards Dunc.
