Wiggytop reacted to Matt in Dominic Calvert-Lewin
In so many ways. Not just for the fans but a statement to other clubs too.
No reason we couldn't use Gomes' wages for Branthwaite too (I'm gonna dream, don't ruin it people!)

A vital bit of business in my book, the run of results at the end of the season coincided with him playing most games and making a big positive impact in our forward play, would also be a positive statement to the squad.

That would be wonderful and should be our key objective imo.

There will be fans out there fuming at his interview..... sadly these fans probably backed him after his disgusting penalty and half arsed showings when playing Newcastle and Chelsea which led to crisis talks and him being the one big notable change along with Dyche wearing a tracksuit.Ā
Ā
Yeah yeah yeah.... this lad looks so silky and classy when all the stars align and he fancies having a go. Ā I don't know any clubs that exist that tolerate such indifference to consistency. Ā They may look at him and think "yeah you may do that at Everton but you won't here, we will buy you fir Ā£60m and pay you Ā£200k a week and you won't be like the other mercenaries who are more arsed about hairstyles, tik tok videos and Ā£5000 trainers"Ā
the fact is he won't change. He's been playing for a poor side for 2 years and instead of being first name on the sheet he ended his time being someone the manager and fans can't trust.Ā
Ā
good riddance. Ā If we can sell him and keep branthwaite I would be ecstatic.Ā

Wiggytop reacted to Wall Writer in Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Some people seem to have short memories - anyone remember how we struggled to score goals and almost got relegated when he was injured?Ā Comes back properly and gets a decent run, and we're no longer pulling our hair out trying to figure out htf we score goals.Ā
If you can't score goals, you can't win games, simple as.Ā

I want him to stay, and Iād hope that he values the patience that the club has given him, and in particular the way Dyche has managed him back to fitness and some goal scoring form, heās a key player for us, another season minimum with a new contract, if he and the club have a good season itās win win, if not and he then wants to go the new contract should bring in a better fee.

Agreed. Branthwaite is probably the player with more quality but, for me, we can replace him more easily (and cheaply too). The reason being is that we actually don't need a ball playing CB like Branthwaite, but DCL is key to the way we play.

Hardest player to replace in this squad in my opinion. I think heās hugely underrated- I know heās had injuries and lean spells this season but I think, when fit, heās top class. Iām surprised heās not in the England training squad personally.

I think it's imperative that we get his contract extended tbh.
If he wants to go then sign it, give us another year and hopefully he scores plenty of goals in a fully fit season, and then we sell him next summer when we're in a better position to negotiate a fee.
Currently, we're going to get far less for him than we should do for many reasons. I feel he owes the club to do well by us after we've done well by him.

I think your probably right, I donāt Ā want us to sell DCL or Branthwaite, but Iām fearful we will have to, Onana can go as long as we make decent profit to reinvest, he offers little on the pitch imo.

I have a feeling I'm going to be in minority here...
Any talented player in the Premier already will get eaten up by top half of table clubs.
We need to be in the market for well scouted lesser known.
Obviously they won't all succeed, but in wage terms I'd rather take a risk on 3 or 4 unknowns equal to the wage value of Andre Gomes or a Holgate (still can't believe he's paid that.much!).if we can't get a 25% success rate on a really good player on this basis our whole scouting function might as well be fired and wholesale replaced with Football Manager.

I'm assuming he will with 12 months remaining. I really hope we put another 5 year deal in front of him though.

Wiggytop got a reaction from Harv in Ashley Young
Once again he does the exact opposite of what we expect from an experienced player, if Keane had played that ball imagine the uproar.

He's not going to be a bench player very often though, that's the major problem with Young.
I wish he was better on the pitch than he's shown because I find myself really liking him whenever he's interviewed etc and you can tell that he's very well liked in the dressing room.
But, he's a liability on the pitch and I'd like to put him in a rocket and send him far, far away.

Surely we stay away from players with this sort of history even 1 year can cost a few millionĀ
