SpartyBlue got a reaction from KinL in Man of the Match v Chelsea
Holgate performed well at the end of last season as well. Hopefully turned the corner. We will need him

Iwobi very solid, Tark was excellent but I voted for Patterson. In his first real debut against a top 4 type side I was really impressed. Got done by Sterling once but so do most and it’s his first real action. His desire to get up the pitch and contribute was obvious but that isn’t the thing that caught my eye the most. He is an aggressive defender in the best sense. A couple of times a ball went out wide and he hounded their player without fouling. Never let them turn to face him and it resulted in a turnover. Love that. He also has some fire to him. I don’t know how good he will be but he isn’t scared to play and that’s a really good sign.

He knows just when to step up. Love it. Aside from the injuries, I’m strangely encouraged. If we defend that solidly I think we will, at least, avoid a relegation battle.

Point taken but they also aren’t so tall. He can get away with some tackles others can’t. I agree with the above that bringing Gana in to bridge the gap and help teach this kid is very clever. Between him and Frank he should get quite the education.

I wouldn’t want to train it out of him completely. He needs to exercise judgement but that length is an attribute in his tackling

If you can wrap up this debate please chaps....We are waiting to sign Onana and Gana at the same time but gana won't sign til you've finished 🤣🤣

Credit where it’s due, the cheaper signings and commercial deals have helped putting in a legitimate bid on someone. Also, Frank. This one is all about wanting to work with Frank

That’s the nail on the head, mate. It’s all just assumptions, but it always will be.
It’s probably a mixture of having more room to work than was rumoured and the deal being structured in a way that suits us.

And more to come off the books. I suppose if a deal is structured over 3/4 years the transfer doesn’t cost that much against us this season. Perhaps someone who knows about these things can weigh in. If we do make a signing like this you’d have to give credit to the behind the scenes group. Getting guys like Tarkowski for free and others for small fees the last couple windows would have given us room for this sort of bid. Fair play if it comes off.

Yea I saw that. We’ve just been operating under the assumption that a signing like this is a bridge too far this window. I’m curious what has changed. Perhaps we had more room than we thought or the deal is structured in a way we can afford.

You bloody can, some of the ones my Scott pulled were huuuuuge.

The reality of sport. Less chance of pulling something while you’re having a pint.
I’ve hurt myself a couple times working out which, theoretically, I do for my health.

SpartyBlue reacted to StevO in Maxwel Cornet
It would never be a nominal fee. Chances are Spurs won’t have paid it all in one lump sum. Probably paid over three/four years, but as we’ve sold him the guaranteed money can go into the accounts in one go, minus what expenses we had left from when we bought him. So ball park, we paid about £36m for him, five year initial contract with four years gone, so maybe £7m left. £43m gone in the accounts.
When exactly we get the money isn’t as important as the guaranteed value of the sale.

Every clause can be written in any possible way, as long as the club and the player agree to it being in the contract.
If Burnley wrote in that it needs to be paid in full, and Cornet agreed to it, then it’s their prerogative to turn down anything that doesn’t meet the clause. They may choose to accept a payment plan, after all it’s very rare a club don’t buy on a payment plan anyway, but again that would be their choice.
There are no standard clauses, no “that’s not how it work’s”, it’s a contract. As long as the terms are agreed to it can be anything, so long as it’s legal.
Burnley might have a clause saying they must be paid in gold and ruby, if that’s the clause it is what it is.
Hopefully, if we are trying to him, Burnley will be happy to negotiate on the payment terms. From an accounting point of view, if we pay it all this year or over five years, it’ll be spread over the terms of his contract on the books as amortisation, so makes no difference to P&S. It’s just whether Moshiri wants to put his hand in his pocket to cover the expense in the short term.

Exactly why we only need him playing those simple 5-10 yard passes, explained in the next two sentences. When he tries something more forward thinking he tends to mess it up. Just win it back, give it to someone else, hold position.

Ha. In my greatest fantasies we win in the last day to take 4th. Trying to take my lead from our transfer business with Some pragmatism

Let’s test your theory. Man, I don’t think Everton have any chance at Europe this season.

SpartyBlue got a reaction from chicagoblue in Maxwel Cornet
It has to be the full fee unless otherwise negotiated. Imagine Richie having a 50m release cause and Spurs saying we will pay you 7m for 7 years or something. It would seriously damage the selling club.
Seems smart by Burnley. We want the money now. If you can’t pay now then it’s going to cost you more in the long run. We have an option to avoid it by just paying the fee. If we are unable to then makes sense we’d get charged a premium. I would guess we would settle on a fee less than 25m but that assumes another club won’t give them a better offer which may be just to pay the release clause in total
