Ashley Young is a terrible footballer.

Head wants it to be a draw, heart wants United to take a beating.

statistically, Osman was the better player of the two (Barry) last week.
So maybe we're being too harsh on him? I agree with what most have said though and think he should be given a rest at the very least.

pete0 reacted to Matt in Why do people hate America ?
a beaut is not something nice (so far as I remember!)
Back to the idiots slagging her off, Id love to meet them:
Me "she won, big deal"
Them "but shes Middle-Eastern/Asian! shes not American!"
Me "but she was born in America, has an American passport. She is as American as you are, white/black/other (except Native American Indian) person slamming her "
Them "but shes not, her parents came from India"
Me "Then you're not American either, you inept cretin (except Native American Indian people). Odds are, if you're white, you're European by decent. If you're black, you're African by decent, etc. (generalizing I know, but the people this would be directed at, they wouldn't know it anyway). So what makes you more 'American' than her?"
Them "but...but...but..."
Me --> BITCHSLAP.... "racist fucktard. Greetings from the motherland...."

pete0 reacted to Bailey in Man of the Match v Chelsea
If he had played up front when we were at 0-0 we wouldnt have seen anything of him. Its only because we were looking to counter attack and he had space to play in that it worked so well.

pete0 reacted to Peter H in Goals, goals, goals!
Just had to post this, happened last weekend. Leipzig had practiced this for over a year, everyone knows exactly what to do and they called the tactic 'the quarterback' resulted in a goal the first time they tried it. Took under 8 seconds to score from kick off.

If the rumoured fee we paid to bring him here is true then they can't recall him, that's why fee's are paid.

we've not lost in 11 games against West Ham and have won 4 of our last 6 at Upton Park.
2-0 win or maybe 2-1.
Lukaku and Mirallas to get the goals.

Yeh they certainly showed glimpses of class but that was all. I think they were a little bit naive yesterday because Lallana would have ripped Demel a new one had he played wide and they then could have played Lambert a little deeper or brought in another central midfielder if needs be. The problem with buying players for big money is that they need to find a way to squeeze them all in to the starting 11 and as soon as you start catering to the player/fans ego instead of playing the best balanced 11 you start creating trouble for yourself.

pete0 reacted to Hafnia in David Moyes thread
I'm really looking forward to the Champions League. I've been there before, with Everton, and we didn't quite make the group stages, but this is something different.
David Moyes says every game at Man United has offered a new challenge ahead of his side's Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
"I'm now managing a club which is used to getting to the final stages and we'll try to do that again.
Ahh that old chestnut again Davie, maybe you could mention that one again (after the Chelsea ga,e, after the liverpool game) maybe even use it for your visit to Southampton were you set us up for a lovely away 0-0 draw last season.....
I think the point your are missing is that United are used to having a manager who knows how to get to the final stages....

pete0 reacted to Visiting Citizen in Gareth Barry
Saw most of your game on Saturday and you'll be pleased to hear that was just a typical Barry performance. The block on Eto'o was fantastic. As I said in my first post, on deadline day, he is (was) my favourite City player and I'm glad he's endearing himself to you guys so quickly.

pete0 reacted to Hafnia in Steven Naismith debate
anyone who watched the game will have seen a player with a first class attitude who works his socks off.
For me the problem is when he has the ball, he lacks the technique and touch to help build attacks. Too many times he gave it away cheaply. Without the ball he was fantastic - hard working, tenacious, and motivating.
He is like a Dirk Kuyt - just not as good. Dirk Kuyt is a player i've often felt we could do with.

pete0 reacted to Hafnia in Martinez won't last the season
Moyes absolutely deserves credit for his first few years and when he operated in the market. That is not my point, you can't set up the club for the next phase/step of what should be an evolution and just fookin whinge whilst banking over a quarter of a million in wages a month.
He may as well have come out and said "i can't do this part..." No instead he carried on sandbagging. Give Kevin keegan credit, he held his hands up and walked when he knew he had no more answers for his lack of being able to evolve tactically.
Moyes could make a tremendous living in the game as a fixer... He stole 5-6 years of a contract just repeating his same failed but steady enough to get top half system. His next job after us should have been Sunderland, wolves, Newcastle. Clubs that need sorting out and steadying.

pete0 got a reaction from Sideliner in Martinez won't last the season
Sam Aladyce could have kept us up, we would have moaned quicker and then got the next manager to help make the next step up. Moyes pulled wool over a lot of fans eyes, 70k a week for Nil Satis Nisi Pessimism. Finished exactly where the wage structure predicts yet whinged week in week out, even though he wouldn't utilise the squad he had. Could have been a great manager, but sadly he didn't grow, same mistakes and too stubborn to learn from them. Wish we'd got rid earlier.

Let's just forget about it if you think they did little to threaten us. I don't think we're gonna see eye to eye on this.

pete0 reacted to Bailey in Chelsea (Home)
I dont think they did 'create' that many good chances. Probably 2 all game. We caused our own problems by losing the ball when we had committed bodies forward, namely due to Barkley and Osman misplacing passess.
Yes they could have scored 3 by half time but so could we, and whats impressive (or worrying depending on how you view it) is that we had to work hard and create those opportunities whereas they only carved us open once through their own good play.

pete0 reacted to MikeO in Chelsea (Home)
Big difference v Moyes was that I enjoyed the end of the game. In the past I've have been hiding behind the sofa while we clung on with eleven players in our penalty area but we were (at times) playing the ball around in their half; injury time was actually brilliant.

I would definitely agree that reverted to the Moyes type cast for the first part of the 2nd half but the subs Martinez made were miles apart from Moyes' and the way we played after those subs was completely different than we would have under Moyes.
Fistly we wouldnt have made a sub for 80mins. Then it would probably have been Heits for Jela (if we were still at 1-0 which would have been unlikely).
If anyone thins Moyes qould have brought on youth and reverted to counter attacking with pace they clearly havent watched him for the last 10-11 years. We would have gone for the long ball all game and we would have conceeded and not create more chances.
Also we did create some very good chances ourselves in thw first half. Both Jela and Naismith missed two clear cut chances before they combined for the winner. Yes Chelsea should have scored too and probably had 3 clear cut chances with 2 half chances. 2 of them clear cut chances and both of the half chances were down to our own mistakes. They didnt create those opportunities we gave it to them and that in itself is encouraging because on the whole we are defending well. Even in the 2nd half, the chance that Eto'o had should have been dealt with by Howard before he had a sniff.
I dont deny the fact that we rode our luck at times but we gave as good as we got across the whole 90mins. On another day it cpuld have finished 4-4 but it didnt and thankfully we won. A draw probably would have been the fairest result but considering we should have won our last 3 games its about time our efforts were rewarded.

pete0 reacted to Hafnia in Chelsea (Home)
From the perspective of did we face pressure? Absolutely. They are a quality outfit with dangerous players all over.
Did we sit back and get 9 men behind the ball and invite them ala Moyes style? No. In the last 20 minutes we had a few opportunities to score and were the best team at that stage despite Chelsea going full on. Facing pressure isn't the same as sitting back.

This prediction game is'nt as easy as you think, 6 got the right result, only 2 got the right score, Droobie and Steve. Nobody got the Scorer [surprise surprise].
September 14th.
If anybody thinks they were marked wrongly, let me know and we can check it.
