  1. And his brother has already confirmed that he will "unretire" once Martinez is gone
  2. in the interest of balance, these two vids from the Leave side are also (unintentionally) hilarious https://youtu.be/QgPmJtlozuM
  3. he's on 1 million a year from belgian FA.. had the gall to say he's willing to work for such a pittance because he believes in the team.. that'll go down well witn ordinary fans.
  4. thanks but my attitude towards belgian team is pretty much the same as most on here towards england. I mainly watch them to see Everton players and players from the team I support in Belgian league, sadly belgium currently has 0.
  5. Someone made a "The Office" style mockumentary. Quite good.
  6. This Twitter-thread is really well done. (12 tweets) .. especially good if you've got the real song on in the background.
  7. ouch that hurt. We're all Belgian I don't know why you'd say they haven't lived up to expectations; they only game they lost which they shouldn't have was against Wales in the quaterfinales of last European Championship. Other than that, this current generation has coasted through every qualifying game and did OK in Brazil (out in quarterfinals against Argentina). I'm fairly pleased with the level of play. Martinez fields a very offensive team. First Belgian manager smart enough to partner Vertonghen and Alderweireld in the middle. Only problem I have with him is he chooses Witsel over Nainggolan. Would be sad to see him leave, except if it was to return to Everton.
  8. Not at all, John. When Brecel (the young Belgian you refer to) won his first ranking event (2017 China Open) he barely got a mention at the end of the sports segment of the evening news. I love it though, been watching since I was a teenager. This years Championship was spectacular.
  9. Unbelievable snooker final. Mark Williams must have ice in his veins.
  10. On this I think it's important to add that countries with a strong written constitution are much better equipped to handle the occasional autocrat or electoral shocks than those with weak constitutional norms (or an unwritten constitution). The fact the US courts were able to rein in Trump, and the fact the UK has basically been in a constitutional crisis since 2016, has a lot to do with the strenght (or lack theirof) of the US and UK constitution.
  11. Umm, no. The legislative branch and judicial branch aren't branches of government . 'Government' is the executive branch, which in countries with royalty is usually headed by a Prime Minister. The executive branch, legislative branch and judicial branch exist in Western democracies independent of each other as separate 'powers'. Royalty are purely ceremonial; you get the same in some presidential systems. Germany has a ceremonial president for example (Herr Steinmeier). Your system in the US where the President is also the head of government is actually quite uncommon (and usually a sign of authoritarian regime ).
  12. They did a study a few years ago here whether it would be cheaper to get rid of our king and create a presidential system. Turns out it's pretty much a wash.
  13. He even got owned by Alexa ... to me, still the funniest thing on YouTube.
  14. Juncker is a member of the EPP (same party Tories were in until Cameron took them out to join ECR). He was voted in by the EU Parliament and the EU Parliament can vote him out. I feel like we have been over this before. There's only a very small percentage of europeans that want a US of E, I don't see it ever happening. You have to look at the EU as an institutional framework to allow like-minded nations to work together, not in statist terms.
  15. He can't go a day without comparing someone or something he doesn't like to Hitler. What a moron.
  16. Too late to remain, obviously. Ofcourse the world won't end, specifically because, as we can tell from what has happened so far, Brexit means continued regulatory alignment with the EU, continued financial contributions and supremacy of the Court of Justice. The only real "result" will be the end of Freedom of Momevement. The price? A weaker economy (on both sides of the Channel) and loss of influence on EU regulation (which will apply in the UK anyway). I can't imagine at the end of all this, a signifciant proportion of the UK public not wondering what was the point of all of this .. The option to remain, however, will be gone after March 2019.
  17. For Brexiteers the transition is actually a smart move. Thanks to the transition the UK will be facing the cliff edge when it's already outside the EU, instead of in March 2019. If it were facing the cliff edge when still in the EU, there could be a strong push to remain. With transition, the UK will just ease out of the EU and noone will notice before it's too late.
  18. Michael Fassbender .. never seen him in anything bad.
  19. Chelsea are pathetic. Barca score at will. Unconvinced Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers.
  20. Tillerson, the only prominent US politician to back UK in criticism of Russia after Salisbury, has been sacked. That won't help with the collusion allegations.
  21. I have about 50 but have room for a couple 100 more and I hope during the next decades to be able to build up my stock. They keep their value (or increase in value) and great for any special occasion. I look at it as both a hobby and an investment. I agree with you on German whites. A good Riesling on a hot summer evening is perfection. I ban all rosé wines.
  22. I prefer red as well. The only white I really like is Sauternes. Big Burgundy fan. Every year, me and couple of friends, drive to the same hotel in Nuits-Saint-Georges (six hour drive from where we live) and spend a weekend tasting and buying in the Beaune-area. I have several Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romané, Aloxe-Corton, Pommard and Volnay is my wine-cellar. The wines I drink regularly tend to be Rioja and Chianti. I don't know a lot about the so called New World Wines (Chile, Argentina, South Africa, etc.) but would love to find out more about them.
