MikeO
Didn't South Africa fail to qualify? They did. Second place in their group (to Nigeria who sadly sailed through with a 100% record) and they're out.
MikeO
The Mirror today... Everton have won the race to sign Leeds sensation Fabian Delph. Blues boss David Moyes has beaten competition from Manchester United, Fulham and Sunderland to land the England Under-21 midfielder in a deal costing up to £4million. Leeds have decided to cash in on Delph after failing to win promotion to the Championship last month. Moyes watched Delph in action six times last season and believes the youngster has a massive future at Goodison Park. Delph, 19, was voted the Football League's Young Player of the Year

MikeO
£4m certainly sounds more realistic than the £7m they were quoting to start with. "Up to..." would suggest some of it will performance/appearance related. Makes sense.
eddie blue
Leeds have just denied this story saying they have had no bid for the player
Hafnia
Moyes must be playing FM 2009 using the old database, in all honesty this lad looks very good from what i've seen on Youtube, plus there is a good report from Steve Claridge here...... http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2008/...p;feed=football

dark
What are you talking about? Don't know what he means. Fabian Delph started playing football at Bradford City until the age of eleven, from this age he moved to Leeds United where he broke into (and remained) in the first team. As of yet Leeds United have been his only senior club. Everton are rumoured to have signed him, I've seen this one a few websites that a £4,000,000 bid has been accepted and Delph has come to the Premiership from the third tier. scouse
Lets hope from all accounts he is a promising youngerster lets hope Moyes has bagged this one
Hafnia
something on Bluekipper indicates that this one looks like happening, I like the look of him to be honest. We seem to be on course to getting a good young squad together, Rodwell, Gosling, Baines, Baxter are potential England regulars in my opinion. Adding Delph would be a major plus for us, got a good feeling about this one.

dark
Must have read the same thing Haf, they say to have confirmation through email that something will happen this week? good times... Delph is looking like a good player for Leeds at the moment and it seems inevitable that he will be heading to greater things this campaign. Everton look like the club for him and I've ever confidence that Moyes will get the best out of him. A great future prospect for England that can flurish in this team, all the best to him when he makes his switch to Goodison

jofanon
You could make a youtube vid of Leon Osman goals (eg Larissa, Sunderland, Macclesfield, second at Fulham last week to name a few) that would make him look an absolute genius. Not saying that Delph is a poor player, I've not seen him, but a compilation of a few goals proves nothing <img src="http://www.toffeetalk.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" " border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> . Er, specially when they're against Crewe and Walsall <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" " border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> . Can't we buy someone over 10st? Such a midget side - its embarrasing!

duncanmckenzieismagic
Hopefully the fact that Villa have agreed a fee today for Downing means we will have a clear shot at Delph
Memmaclub
OK not having seen delph I am not in a position to comment on whether he would be a good signing however for 6 mil I would expect to see something atleast a bit better than osman. Delph is still very young but I have no dount that as long as he stays away from injuries and such things that he will be a better player than Osman in his carear. He has the talent and potential for sure, realising it is a different matter though i guess.
chris1eng
why is it taking so long yet again i have no faith in our board to do the deals...we will probably end up with free transfers at the end of the window. After today I totally agree with you.

We don't even no if we've bid for him ffs, the bids came from unnamed clubs remember. You know someone at Finch Farm don't you? So ask them, oh and ask them when Owen's signing as well! Ian C
the price being banded about for delph 7m is way out of our price range if we cant even buy a 5m rb Well thats complete bullshit as we had a bid ACCEPTED for Naughton. Not our fault if Spurs are willing to pay Newcastle wages on players.
