The Best Bosmans: Sportsmail's guide to Europe's top out-of-contract players.

With the summer transfer window almost upon us, managers across the country will be getting their calculators out to see who they can afford to sign.

One way to keep within budget is to find some bargains among the out-of-contract players available on Bosman free transfers.

Here, Sportsmail does the hard work for Premier League scouts and selects the looks the best players available across the continent.

Michael Owen

Newcastle United

Age: 29 Position: Striker

Due to the turmoil at the club, the England star has delayed making a decision on his future until the end of another injury-plagued season.

But he has indicated that if Alan Shearer becomes manager permanently he would be very tempted to stay.

If he were to look elsewhere he would have plenty of choice, with Everton, Tottenham and Manchester City all believed to be interested. But with his injuries and form problems he may have trouble attracting the offer he would desire from a Champions League club.

Karim Haggui

Bayer Leverkusen

Age: 25 Position: Centre back

The Tunisia international is renowned as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, but has been relegated to the bench this season by the arrival on loan of Barcelona centre back Henrique.

His agent has confirmed he will not be renewing his contract and is looking at a move to England. West Ham, Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Newcastle United are all believed to be interested.

Sami Hyypia

Liverpool

Age: 35 Position: Centre back

A Liverpool legend with nearly 500 first-team games under his belt, the Finnish international’s future is unclear.

With only 18 starts this season due to competition from Daniel Agger, the dominant defender would be due a testimonial if he were to leave. There would be no shortage of takers for the 97-cap international in this country or abroad. Newcastle, for example, could well use his experience.

Carlos Kameni

Espanyol

Age: 25 Position: Goalkeeper

The Cameroon star is almost certain not to renew his contract with the Spanish side after a training ground bust-up with a fan earlier this season. But the penalty-saving expert is highly rated and, if he were not out of contract in the summer, would cost any suitor the best part of £10m.

Unusually for a goalkeeper, he is very experienced despite his young age, having won an Olympic gold medal aged just 16. Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur will be interested but so are Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Daniel Sturridge

Manchester City

Age: 19 Position: Striker

Sturridge, the nephew of former players Dean and Simon, is considered a hot property at Eastlands but looks set to leave this summer after a protracted contract dispute.

He was reported to have turned down a final £30,000-a-week contract offer from manager Mark Hughes, apparently demanding an eye-watering £75,000 a week. That's quite a wage for a teenager, but there's no doubting his talent.

He has scored six goals in only 12 starts in his career so far, including a brilliant strike against Sheffield United in the FA Cup 5th round last season to open his account. He can leave at the end of his current deal in June, although as he is under 24, Manchester City will probably be eligible for a fee from a tribunal. Aston Villa and Chelsea are reportedly interested.

Maniche

Atletico Madrid

Age: 31 Position: Midfielder

The former Chelsea ball winner looks set to leave Madrid after refusing the club’s offer of a new contract. The seasoned international, who has 49 caps for Portugal, has had a poor season and manager Abel Resino has left him out of the team in recent weeks.

But the star, whose CV also includes spells at Benfica, Porto and Inter Milan, still has a lot to offer and Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia is believed to be interested.

Diego Lugano

Fenerbahce

Age: 28 Position: Centre back

The uncompromising Uruguay defender is seen as the best in the Turkish league. Committed and with a tough streak that sometimes spills over into aggression, he is an excellent reader of the game and is also a regular scorer from set pieces.

He is being tracked by AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Atletico Madrid and, despite hinting he would be happy to stay at Fenerbahce, a move to foreign climes seems almost inevitable.

Marko Pantelic

Hertha Berlin

Age: 30 Position: Striker

The Serbia striker, who has 44 goals in 107 Bundesliga games, has already been forced to deny he has signed a pre-contract agreement with Fulham. But the Premier League remains a likely destination for the former Paris Saint Germain and Celta Vigo star, with Everton and Middlesbrough also said to be interested.

The player, who has a reputation as both an expert goal poacher and a temperamental hot-head, has been out of favour with manager Lucien Favre this season, starting only 19 league games.

Yohann Pele

Le Mans

Age: 26 Position: Goalkeeper

The 6ft 5in stopper has broken into the France squad this season after a decade with Le Mans and a move to a big club could see his international opportunities increase. Another player who is likely to leave, at least in part, because of disputes with his club.

Manager Daniel Jeandupeux criticised his decision to miss two games earlier this season because of a calf injury as a weak excuse.

According to his agent, Arsenal, Portsmouth, Newcastle and Tottenham (along with most of the rest of Europe) are interested.

Obviously don't know too much about the non English players, as for Owen I wouldn't mind him being here, Hyypia as well except I think he will retire and the fact he's played for Liverpool for so long I strongly doubt he'd come here, and as for Sturridge wanting 75k wages a week? No chance, I don't care how good he is, he can't command wages that big at Everton.

I wouldn't mind one of the keepers, we need a quality back up for Tim, someone to push him for his first team place.

Haggui maybe, but not sure if we need more defenders, hopefully Jags is not gonna miss to much of the start of next season and Yobo is capable enough of filling his boots.

We need striking/attacking options really, and there's nothing there that takes my fancy.

btw..Sturridge asking for 75000 a week is a fkin joke.

Zarate would be a great signing but its pretty obvious he is well out of our price range and will end up with one of the big European clubs. At the moment £25mil is over the top but in the next few seasons i would put money on it he will be worth more.

Although some names will not thrill most i think some are potential players from the Premier league who would be in a reasonable price range that we could look at:

Newcastle

Tim Krul - GK

S.Taylor - RB/CB

R.Taylor - RB

Gutiérrez - RW/LW

Hull

Geovanni - CM/RW/LW

Myhill - GK

Porstmouth

Kranjcar - RW/CM

Kaboul - DM

Crouch - FW

Middlesbrough

Hoyte - RB

A.Johnson - LW/RW

Lugano is a very good player, if we lose Lescott then this guy would be ideal, I think Owen would also be a good signing if he dropped his wage demands, with the world cup next year England need their best goalscorer and i think a move to us would suit him down to the ground

Think DM would be intrested in Taylor especially if he can play 2 positions at the back! Cant see Lescott goin anywhere this teams just clickin into gear so it wouldnt help him or the team! Sturridge 75k a week, im so askin for a pay rise on Tuesday ha!

keep sturridge, thinks hes a big time charlie. never impressed me in the few games i seen him play for city. turning down 75k a week, he can get himself a reality check before anyone throws money at him like that.

ball is a has been, or an almost been, cant quite work it out, but he could and should have been a better player than he is/was. though im sure walter and his cotizone specialist can take some of the blame for that.

cant comment on the others.

wouldn't take him on those wages, i've thought he looked good when i've seen him so was just saying keep an eye on him...75k no chance obviously

regarding ball, he had a good season last year and i don't think he's as good as baines but assuming that nuno will leave (hes been injured loads anyway) we do need cover at left back and I'd definitely have him back for cover.

i'd love gibson and bates here they're the two i want the most out of the list. stoch i think could be a decent player in a few years and would give us an option and probably be a squad player, as would many of the others...except for kameni who would walk in ahead of howard but i don't think we'd be able to get him

Agree. I wouldn't have ball as back-up, we've got baines and if necessary lescott, if nuno goes surely there's a youngster worth a chance rather than re-sign ball. Look at that daniel fox at coventry for example, he was never given an opportunity at GP and he looks like he could be a decent prem player in the future, I was disappointed molyneux didn't get a bit longer, he sounded a good prospect. I'd rather youth get a chance unless we're signing real quality that's going to push what we've already got.

seitaridis has just been released by atletico so add him to the list. as an atletico supporter i'd be both cautious and pleased with the signing. he's a good player but earlier in the season he didn't turn up to a game, which obviously left everyone rather bitter. i thought he was a proper tit but he's certainly better than hibbert, good attacking minded footballer. could give balance with beans on the left.

It would be great to have someone that could push foreward from the back. Thats what we need, someone like Baines that does a good job at keeping the goals out and does a good job at helping them happen at the other end.
