Ten Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I may have started one similar ages and ages ago but I thought as a 'get to know your neigbours' effort for the present that I could set up a topic to see what people do? And considering alot of people spend far too long on here i want their job I have three jobs currently, project Coordinator, Escourt and Barman. I work as a project coordinator for a charity in which i set up and run, youth groups and clubs for disabled children and young people, in a safe and 'freedom of choice' environment. We recruit volunteers to support those who may have more personal requirments and help. I'm also an escourt Calm it. I am a custody officer escourt who transports young jueviniles to secure units, prisons, court, health associated buildings and also do bed-sits. Finaly i am a Barman of a weekend at a local, shite money but its a social thing So that what ten does, what bout you guys? Quote
CraccerC Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I'm a CRM Marketing Executive, but I'm from a Project Management background and might return to that one day. I get to spend a lot of tiem o nthe net because of marketing, I'm on facebook a lot as well because I admin our Facebook page. Quote
MikeO Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I started out with a Saturday job in a greengrocer (paid £3) then progressed to a petrol station (pumping the stuff, not self service...50p per hr). Left school, trained and became sound engineer for seventeen years; year in rehab then two voluntary sector jobs in addiction while training as counsellor. Needed money so various employed driving jobs then I got a franchise with Lynx couriers so self employed for a (sadly short) while earning bucketfulls of dosh. About eight years ago my wife got ill so since then I've been "carer" which pays much less . Quote
Matt Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 not sure i could describe it to be honest. Logistics "expert" and Business Analyst in SAP, if that means anythin to ya. Hard to believe that i was a stoner 5 years ago, unemployed and a general waste of space. Now i work in Geneve/Barcelona and will be married in around 5 weeks. A butcher of exotic meats before starting with this company and project. Life is crazy.... Quote

holystove Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I spent the last year doing academic research on the judicial cooperation between constitutional courts and European courts. To make ends meet I also work part time for a Marketing company. Recently sold my soul and will start working as a lawyer for the Belgian treasury in September (expecting their contract offer any day now). Always wanted to work for the EU, maybe some day ... Quote
The Beard Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Interesting array of employment within our ranks. I currently manage a community based 'Rapid Access' psychiatric unit. One of a handful in the country. I have been a Social Worker specialising in Adult Mental Health since I left school, many years ago. I am also qualified as an AMHP (Approved Mental Health Practitioner) so I have 'the power' to have peple detained under the Mental Health Act. I also have an MBA in Business Studies and have studied psychology as part of my current role. Quote

Crikey that sounds like a valuable (and rare indeed) resource. Had many dealings with various mental health service providers over the years (on both sides of the fence) and "rapid access" wasn't a phrase that I came across very often . Quote
c1982 Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Primary School Teacher - I teach 5 and 6 year olds Everton chants (clean ones!) Quote

Had many dealings with various mental health service providers over the years (on both sides of the fence) and "rapid access" wasn't a phrase that I came across very often . The resource is a 'crisis service' which enables people who need to be moved from their home address for safety purposes, either for themselves or others, but are not deemed ill enough to warrant a psychiatric hospital admission. However as the service is community based the term 'crisis' was deemed quite harsh for local people within the immediate surroundings, hence we called the service 'Rapid Access' and since then it has been well accepted. Ten Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 Wow, really impressed with the response i got. I thought some people may have just taken the p*ss but i'm genuinely taken back by it! Its really cool to know what people do, it helps to build the picture of people you talk to and i can tell you, i have a massive amount of respect for the lot of you on here (Not that i didn't already ) But it is interesting! Massive diversity and levels, interesting Thanks all, lets hope more people spot the thread! Quote

Everton_Worshiper Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Well, at the moment I run my own IT consultancy company and have minority stakes in others. I am basically an enterprise architect but I am very hands on, I know (or like to think I do) pretty much anything from programming (.Net, Java etc) to business analysis (data modelling, business processes etc) to solution architecture (bit boring but heavily paid). My money earner is my knowledge of refining of oil, I was picked out of sixth form of high school for my programming ability by a refinery (I built some clever component tracking software as a hobby - yep I am a geek) and never got the chance to get to Uni as I was quickly thrown up the career ladder because I have a weird ability to learn things by reading the front cover of a book (that's how I was described anyway). I turn 30 this year and would love to pack this in to go live a quiet life somewhere on the coast instead of the high pressured work I do now...but I can't complain, I spend about 9 months of the year working from home and get to spend a lot of time with my son (10 months old)! Despite all this, Anil Ambani still won't answer my calls/emails  Quote
rubecula Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I did some shop work as a teenager, butcher and stuff. Then at 18 I joined the RAF. I decided I would never repair another bloody aeroplane cos I hated it. So:- Left there and did some low paid stuff, security guard and things like that. Then I got the chance to go to night school to get some qualifications. I did 18 months of that and got myself 5 'A' levels, so I went to University. Got myself a chance of a good job. (sarcasm here) as a rat catcher, sorry Pest Control Technician. Got sacked after I had a crash in a company van. About 13 years ago I got a job on an RAF base where I repair aeroplanes... Quote
StevO Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 work for a car manufacturer as a customer advisor, recently came second in line for a management position (gutted but i was beaten by a close friend) currently waiting to be fast tracked up the ladder (turns out from aptitude tests im much brighter than the company ever realised, no body noticed in seven years until i filled out a damn application form) but it may take me to the rather exotic tamworth or coventry. i work part time as a carer for children who have emotional difficulties. my step on the ladder of social care incase the motor industry spits me out or doesnt pay up by my 30th. Ian C Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Still a secondary school student but in my spare time I'm also a basketball coach to U-12 and U-13 boys (volunteer) and the club's main referee (paid) as well as my school's only referee (paid) Didn't manage to find any paid work for the summer. Was offered summer work experience placements at Microsoft and Cisco but turned them down. I'll leave it to college to do stuff for no money! Quote
rubecula Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 You could try our place Ian. It is only an hour and a half from Dublin on the HSS or Jonathon Swift. I know we do placements for younger folks (work experience) Quote
Ian C Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Thanks mate but Microsoft and Cisco already offered me work experience placements. I've deferred both until next summer, taking it easy at the moment unless I can find a paying job! Quote
rubecula Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Not a problem Cols and myself both work in the same place. I say work. Cols just turns up when it's throwing out time LOL Quote

rubecula Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 Currently working as a university lecturer, teaching Film Production. Don't these clever gits just annoy the hell out of you???? Nice one Jamie. What is the difference between Production and Executive Production? And do producers have to stump up the money themselves? (Not a trick question, I really don't know.) Quote
