Start bidding at £40m, Last night was a landmark, Like the Gerrard legacy at L.pool, Should be contender for POTY.

After one game it seems to be an hysterical over the top reaction is all.smile.png

Blimey read it again Bill...

The point being made is that he started off looking like a fish out of water - he improved and we know what he is capable of and have seen him dominate teams like city due to his progression and development and maturity. He has the attributes to boss the midfield even against top quality players - if he gets consistency then that means you will see more of it - so my question is this

"if he finds consistency and performs like that for the majority of the season, do you not think that he would be in the running for player of the year?"

My answer would be a resounding "YES" - I also base his price region being starting at £40m as he has a good 10 years left at the top. He is already one of the best midfielders of his type. Unless maybe you think otherwise? Again, this is my opinion.

Tbf, last night isn't the only time Fellaini has put in a stonking performance like that.

Nine MOTMs on here last season and more than twice the number of votes than anyone else (bar Pienaar) got over the year.

TT player of the year the previous season with six MOMTs.

So hardly out of the blue.

Bidding should start at £50m for me....and we should still say nobiggrin.png !

I'm sorry but some of our football was brilliant tonight and I thought our long ball (hoofing) was actually minimal and was used more as a last resort.

I hate Alex Ferguson, he's a twat and, I've said it before but, I cannot wait for the day he fucks off out of football.

If we get the same results for the next 37 games I couldn't give a fuck what other managers say about our style. Red faced, alcoholic wanker! Edited by big gorgeous

You can all say what you like, and however you like to say it, but to me it was an over the top post after one game.

I'm Sorry if my post goes against what everybody else thinks, but thats my point of view and if you dont like it lump it.

I cant be arsed getting into silly little arguments because my view goes against those of the establishment.

heard them on talksport on the way home from chorley last night..funny  everyone, everywhere is seriously creaming over fellaini..even non-football fans on my facebook were all over him..got back to barnsley about half 1..wide awake so went on to have a look and it was just full of people saying fellaini is god etc..are people finally realising we don't big him up too much?

I would class myself as a spectator as opposed to a student of the game. Which has often meant players who keep it nice and simple don't appear on my radar despite doing a great job for the team. The likes of makalele never stood out for me, i've always looked out for the goalscorers, tricky wingers or the all action midfielders who can pick passes and smash shots in from 30 yards.

However, when it comes to fellaini, there is only one player who is like him or better than him and that is Yaya toure. The inmportance of these types of players was highlighted last year when Toure went to the african nations, despite city having a wealth of talent in midfield. Fellaini has the potential to be the most effective midfielder in the world.

Please no more of this establishment/group/clan/clique stuff, its rediculous.

Because someone agrees, doesn't mean we've slipped each other a digit.

I agree and disagree with everyone, dependent on their opinion or argument.

Regulars aren't grouped.

Stop now.

On Topic...

It's too early to say he's a contender (he could get injured as Zoo and Bill have both pointed out), agreeing with those highlighted.

If he carries on playing the way he did last night, consistantly, he could be our Player of the season (agreeing with Marco, Mark and Haf)

See...no groups.

Bill, he hasn't played one game for us, so I don't see how my point is over the top. He has played over 100 games and we have watched him grow, and with last night being IMO the best he's played in a blue shirt it bodes very well indeed for a strong season ahead. He is approaching the end of a steep learning curve and is already performing at a very high level.

No one is arguing, they are just saying that in their opinion my comment wasn't OTT, and if you think my judgement of him is one game only, then that is where you are wrong. The way I was wrong when I thought he was a waste of £15m

I dont know if thats directed towards me or not Louis, i know he played well and if you look at the MOM thread i voted for Felli, same as everybody else.

I can't speak on behalf of, but i'm not sure it was Bill. Just an apt post relating to the big man's performance. As Marco says, people are going crazy for him.

Even people I didn't know liked football were talking about him, United fans were even talking well about him :o

He's just enthusiastic by the amount of media attention Everton's victory gets, as do all of us. I'm glad to see the newspapers hailing EFC and Fella.

Said that same thing to my mate last night. The only better player at bossing the middle at the moment is Toure... if Man.Utd/Chelsea want to pass Citeh this year then Fellaini would be the player they should (not in the eyes of myself and all blues) be looking at. He is that good and we're not just talking about last night.

I've said in the past players like Gerrard are more complete but he's been doing it for a lot longer - Fellaini is certainly on course (and I think this is what Bill's trying to say).

United fans on the BBC blog comments are blaming the fact that the Goodison pitch is 41/2 metres shorter than OT for their poor displayrofl.gif .

I think the only time they have EVER graciously accepted any kind of defeat was when Barca tore them a new one in the CL final a few years back at Wembley, their fans and manager are the most miserable, negative and non-giving-credit to others mob in the game.

They might be the biggest club in the world, but that doesn't always mean they will win and play the best, and if it hadn't been for De Gea we could have beaten them 3/4-0

that's also exactly what haf said..with added things to his game he is on course

also....what the fuck was carrick doin marking fellaini from that corner? that seriously, seriously baffled me

He was doing us a favor. I havent gotten sp excited by a single match since the US beat Spain in the 2009 Confedations Cup. It's hard to believe it was only a few ago ehen DM said we could be in s relegation battle. Today it feels like a lifetime ago.

Haven't all pitches been ordered to be the same size from this season?

Heard something like that but it'd be hard to implement surely. We (for example, sure we're probably not the only ones, or the smallest) physically can't extend the length of the pitch can we? Certainly not by five metres....so those with bigger pitches would have to reduce them.

Also, can the Premier League overrule the laws of the game, which specify the dimensions within certain tolerances.

Right, I've calmed down now and in the cold light of day... we were still FUCKING BRILLIANT.

I can't tell you how nervous and worried (mixed in with a bit of excitement) I was before this game. Not because United are a powerhouse, they're there for the taking by any side now, IMO, but because we do tend to start the season slow. BUT, from the very first whistle every single player was on their game, they knew exactly what they were supposed to be doing and they did it brilliantly. While some players had better games than others and stood out more, I don't think any player out there last night had a bad game. I'm incredibly proud of the performance of the whole side.

In the first half I really thought we were magnificent. We were multi-dimensional (shock, horror!). Yes we went direct to Fellaini a fair bit but we also pinged the ball about with some lovely one touch triangles. I actually found myself giggling with giddiness at one point when Baines, Pienaar and Jelavic (I think) did one such triangle. And when we did go long it wasn't aimless, it had a purpose, and that was to get it to Fellaini. And only once did he fail to win the ball to my memory (and that was in the second half). Playing Fellaini further up the pitch when United have a patched up defence was an absolute masterstroke. There was such a good flow to our play, it was like we hadn't had a summer break and it was the week after the Newcastle game. We absolutely dominated that first half, we had all the chances and if not for De Gea we could have been three up at half time. The one criticism I would have of our first half showing was that, at times, we let United have too much space in midfield to come on to us. However, Moyes got his tactics spot on last night so I wouldn't be at all surprised if letting United have the ball was part of the plan. You know, we hold our shape and make them have to break us down.

Second half was a bit of a different story. We started the half as we played in the first half; firmly ontop. We, and Fellaini, deservedly got the goal the performance deserved. After that we got deeper and deeper and United had pretty much all of the ball. I don't think going that defensive was in the gameplan though! I was absolutely shitting my pants. Were the first half had been about flair and pure power, the second half was all about a backs to the wall defensive showing. And what a defensive performance it was. It was absolutely fucking immense. I like the attacking side of football far more but defence like we showed makes me burst with pride. Our back five, and to a lesser extent Neville and Gibson infront of them, were titans. Nothing was getting past them last night. Nothing.

Before the game all anyone could talk about was United and RVP. After the game, all that needs to be spoken about is Everton and Marouane Fellaini. The perfect fuck off to Alex Ferguson.

COME ON YOU BLUES.

Howard - Due to our brilliant defence he didn't have an awful to do but when he was called upon he was up to the challenge. And I also thought he commanded his area perfectly; he came for the right balls, he stayed when he needed to, he caught the ball when he could and he punched the ball away when it was needed.

Hibbert - He had one defensive lapse in the whole game and that came in the first half. Other than that he was defensively solid and made two absolutely crucial last ditch tackles that saved our arses. His crossing was also pretty good; it was his cross for Fellaini to nod down for Osman when he hit the bar.

Jagielka and Distin - In the past they have looked like a right pair of donkeys when they've played together, but last night couldn't have been further from that. I thought Distin started the game a little shakily but he settled down and was then top notch. Jagielka was on it right from the off. I watched him carefully and whenever Rooney got close to our box Jags was like his shadow, and then he'd pass him on to Distin when it was needed. And if Jagielka went out, Distin would stay in and vice versa. They worked perfectly in tandem. And Jagielka's tackle on Welbeck when he was through on goal almost made me cream myself. Perfection. AND his goal line clearance from Cleverley's shot. He was just on fire for us.

Baines - Cross. Cross. Cross. Cross. Just how many balls did he put into the box last night? It seemed like a lot to me. And they were pretty much all on the money and caused mayhem in the United defence. His delivery had slipped a bit last season, IMO, but it was back to what it should be. And he was unlucky not to get a goal with that free-kick at the end of the first half.

Osman - He tends to have his poorest games for us when played out wide but last night was not one of those times. He was at the centre of all of our flair play and could have bagged himself a goal or two. He's often criticised for going missing against the better opposition but he was at his influential best. And when he is influential it makes it so much easier for us to play better as a side because he's a tidy player and his enthusiasm rubs off on the rest of the team. He was absolutely fucked with about 20 minutes to go though and should have been subbed much earlier than when he eventually was.

Neville and Gibson - Neither one put in stand out performances but they did their jobs with little fuss, as usual. If holding our shape and making United have to play through us wasn't part of the gameplan though then they should be bollocked! Also, Gibson really needs to build his match fitness up; he looked wasted after about 15 minutes.

Pienaar - He annoyed me a bit tbh. He left Baines far too exposed on too many occasions because he'd drifted inside to get involved in the play. Baines was often left to defend against two players. However, due to him drifting inside to get involved we got to see some silky football.

Fellaini - What a beautiful, beautiful, bastard this man is. How can a man as gangly as he is play with such elegance? He is footballing porn when he plays like he did last night. The game last night should have had an 18 rating due to the way he romanced the ball for all to see. It was like it was attached to him with a piece of invisible string. Here kitty, kitty, come to papa. The way he brought the ball down from high in the air over and over was fucking insane. Then he'd dance away with the ball from the United players like a ballerina. Other times he'd simply win the aerial ball and nod it on for one of our players. I literally can only remember him losing out aerially once. The man is the perfect balance between beauty and the beast; he'll destroy you with power one minute and then just float by you like a butterfly the next. The man is on another level entirely. My MOTM.

Jelavic - I think he was unfortunate that everything we did was geared toward Fellaini last night, meaning he was a little bit neglected. However, he still could have got a goal himself and he worked hard.
