That was a good article and gives me a little more hope about him. I didn't know much about his time at Columbus to be honest. Just that they haven't really done much in the league.

they went to the cup final in 2015 and lost to portland 2-1.  his team qualified for the playoffs every year except 1 in his 5 years there.  honestly the more i read and research he sounds like the guy we need to take us forward.

This Spurs v Utd game is quite tasty. Superb opening goal from Utd with Pogba playing a world class ball to find Rashford with an equally good finish.

I dont think Spurs can handle Utd on the counter so they need to get back into this ASAP otherwise they will get picked off.

According to someone on the radio Kane missed ten games last season and Spurs won nine of them (he must be absolute crap).

They don’t have a particularly difficult schedule through February, so maybe that will be the case again. Still, not a pretty sight with the shite sitting atop the table.

I pointed similar out in the past, Son is the one that they will miss.

Almost a bit of FA cup magic in the early game. Accrington Stanley went down to 10 men in the second half but that spurred them and if anything you'd think they were the team with the extra man. Missed a good chance only for Derby to then counter and a score from the resulting corner. 10 man Accy still put up a fight coming close a couple of times and a Derby player took a red giving a fk on the edge of the box to prevent a 1 v 1, good save from the fk and then a few jumpy moments with Accy throwing the kitchen sink at them.

Good match to start the day and more importantly I didn't have to redo my acca and cry about betting rule number one, never back the early kick off.

The Derby player with the assist was American Duane Holmes. How did he play?

Didn't notice him tbh. No one player really stood out.

Thanks. I'm not sure how he's doing but noticed that Lampard has said some good things about him and he's getting more playing time recently. I think he's been called up by the USA once or twice.

Just peeped his twitter and he congratulated Murray Wallace on beating us. That’ll be a big no from me on his involvement in the national team.

Aren't they old teammates? I won't begrudge him for that. He didn't say anything negative about Everton. Anyway, I don't think he's good enough for the national team (at least at the moment).

Miguel Almiron to Newcastle for a reported 21M. He has been excellent in MLS/Atlanta the last couple of years, so I'm curious to see how he does in the PL.

Whoa... I didn't see that. He's a decent player too but surprised that it's PSG who have bought him.

I figured they were but I’ll still hold a petty grudge.

This window has been a massive change from the norm. You would have never expected a team like Spurs to make no signings in back to back windows.

i think a lot of it is a result of the hyper inflation.  to be honest i think us and spurs made the right decisions.  likely there wasn't a player for either of us that would have won the league (spurs) or gotten CL (us).  it takes more than just 1 player, put Messi on Cardiff and it's not like they are gonna be 3rd in the table.  I don't know that I saw City do anything big either, or United, or Arsenal.  Just Chelsea with Higuain really.

Let's hope sensibility reigns and the prices start coming back to earth.

Yeh its quiet everywhere. Chelsea did also sign Pulisic so they spent a fair bit with Morata going the other way. I think Arsenal got Suarez on loan and City signed a cheap youngster but I think thats it. Even the teams further down the pecking order havent done much business. Its definitely the quietest window I have seen.

I’m in a box at Wembley tomorrow for the Spurs Newcastle game guest of one of my suppliers, I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve told their rep I’m an Everton supporter who was born in Newcastle.

Never mind I’ll still enjoy seeing the Geordie’s beat Spurs Toon army.

Not wishing to come across as uncaring and obviously it's a tragic situation but something occurred to me today, will Cardiff still have to pay Nantes £15m for Emiliano Sala?

Had a similar thought but didn't know how to word it without sounding insensitive.

Cardiff will get an insurance payment but it won't cover the full transfer fee.

'The hierarchy of the Premier League club have frozen payments to Nantes "for the time being", reports suggest.'

Anyone watching this City game?

The tactics from Pep are fascinating. I havent sussed specifically why but when defending he has Fernandino playing as a CB however when they have the ball he is playing alongside Gundogan in central midfield. Walker and Laporte playing as the full backs sit in as wide CBs. I can only think it is to stop the counter attack and try to maintain possession but its not something I have seen before from Pep or generally.

Considering they are playing Arsenal that takes some balls.

Bit poor of them to go public so soon and poor of Cardiff to give them the opportunity.

Seen on the news a body was found in the wreckage, given how close they are to finding him the clubs should have waited for his family to have a proper funeral and even then tried harder not to go public.

I agree, Nantes are entitled to their money legally I suppose as the deal had been done and the flight was organised by Cardiff, but it should have been left to lie for a while.

Watching this City side does make me question whether Arteta would be a gamble worth taking.

It makes me think how are we where we are currently? We matched City for long periods a few days ago and lost to two injury time sucker punches; Chelsea have been chewed up and spat out by them. That's Chelsea, not Cardiff or Huddersfield, so frustrating.

Should be an interesting game tonight. Wolves arent really a team I would fancy to come out and force the game and Newcastle will create chances. I cant see many goals though.

Looks like Newcastle had one chance and scored.

Wolves lucky with the goal at the end, Boly looked to have hands on the keepers shoulders which played a part in him spilling it.

To be fair the game was more open than I expected. Both sides worked themselves into good positions but couldnt finish them off. Wolves had lots of shots but only a couple of good ones from open play and for all that Newcastle worked the ball forward well I dont remember Patricio making a save.

The new lad Almerion (sp) looked lively. Any of you Yanks seen him play in the MLS?

Yes Almiron is good. MLS is really hoping he does well so other leagues will start valuing MLS players and the league higher.

It will be interesting to see how he does. He looks up for it based on his cameo and with a better finish from Perez he could have had an assist. On the other end of the scale you had Yedlin who was absolutely garbage. Yesterday he fell into the "if he wasnt quick he would be playing Sunday League" category.

that's always been yedlin.  he's a track star playing football.  i had hoped his time in the premier league would mean more growth as a defender and attacker, but it seems like he hit his ceiling.

Manchester United fans throwing bottles and there's a "funny side" to it according to the BBC...

"Minutes later, as he [Angel di Maria] went to take another corner, a bottle of beer was thrown at him, although he at least saw the funny side by pretending to take a swig."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47218439

If that'd been us (or anyone outside the six) we'd have been slaughtered. Be interesting to see what action is taken by the authorities/United.

It's the Champions League.  If UEFA investigate at all it will only be a mild rebuke.  Liverpool's disgraceful attack on the Man City coach only resulted in a 'loose change' fine.

Interesting game the Chelsea Utd match.

It was very even at 0-0, but once Utd scored they sat back and played on the break. When I say they sat back they sat very deep, Allardyce-esque. They scored quickly again on the counter and that was their only 2 chances of the game. They did a very good job of stopping Chelsea at the same time though but they did have 10 men on the edge of their 18 yard box.

Pogba is also largely the same Pogba as before but the only difference is that he has more vertical runners and more space to break into. He still loses the same silly balls, he still gives up far too easily on challenges etc but he is bloody fantastic with the ball at his feet and a willing runner to ping the ball too as well as then arriving into the box himself.

As for Chelsea, they are in the same stick or twist boat as us. They probably should have taken the lead but then never looked like scoring after that. It was my first 90 min viewing of Higuian and I thought he looked great. His movement is as sharp as anyone else in the league but he got no service largely due to the way Utd defended. If he does get the service I can see him scoring plenty.
