Not a big fan either. Assuming Barry comes in on a free at the end of the season I'd rather we looked abroad for a youngster with potential.

Surprised to see you managed to find your way back to the forum, would have thought you'd forget it after about 3 seconds.

Still can't see why people are putting on Pienaar lol. He still ran the game for 75% of the match and occasionally gave the ball away in the last third.
Barkley gives the ball away on the half away line twice and they counter but we don't notice it?

I don't think people appreciate pienaars ability on the ball and his lovely first touch.... Luckily the man that counts does.

Would love to see some stats on him.

But overall a great effort from the boys. Going to miss McCarthy next week.
    Jerry with another great cameo.
Barkley had a strange match, great for most the match, still having thosee moments though.
    Defense looked resolute today.

Timmy saved us a few times.
But on chances we deserved a point.

I reckon you'll make it out of your group personally, probably in 2nd, just ahead of the 3rd placed team. And then you can get a decent draw in the last 16 as well as group C isn't the strongest. I predict a respectable if dull and unspectacular quarter final exit for you.

You will then piss your qualifying group for Euro 2016, get out your group in the competition proper and get knocked out in the quarter finals, in what will be a respectable if dull and unspectacular performance.

    Repeat ad infinitum.

I called the RSPCA today and said, "I've just found a suitcase in the woods containing a fox and four cubs."

"That's terrible," she replied. "Are they moving?"

"I'm not sure, to be honest," I said, "But that would explain the suitcase."

Saw my first game at Goodison Park (v Liverpool) in the first season after the war. Was at Goodison (in the boys' pen) 1948/49 when Everton had their record crowd, over 78,000 also v Liverpool. Used to live on Walton Hall Avenue but moved to Leeds in 1951 when I was 15. Now live in Berkshire but still support Everton (as does my grandson Charlie who lives in Nottingham). I must also admit to supporting Leeds but only because I played for Leeds United Juniors for two seasons before doing my National Service in Singapore and Malaya. I think the current Everton side is the best for many years and can seriously compete with the supposed 'big clubs'. None bigger than Everton in my view.
I can still remember the players when I watched in the 1940's:
Sagar, Greenhalgh, Dugdale, Farrell, Tommy Jones, Lello, Corr, Wainwright, Dodds, Stevenson, Eglington, Boyes, Powell, Grant, Fielding. plus many I have forgotten.

I've just come across this magical picture of Goodison Park from 1911 - home international England v Scotland - and I thought it well worth sharing if you haven't seen it before ...

the overall man of the match was Mignolet - we'd have stuffed them if he'd not played a blinder. though barkley was great you can't ignore those two goals from lukaku

thank fuck that's over for another year

martinez has cleared every doubt i had of him though today..it was 2-2 and we had 4 players in their half when they were attacking us..on another day we would have battered them..set piece defending poor yes but shit happens and all that..we scored from 3 set pieces too so that's a positive..the whole feeling was better today..we looked like we belong(which we do) and we knew it

What about putting Deulofeu on for Baines? What an incredibly attacking mindset, given the context and the situation. That took guts.

    Like this bit...

"On the day, Moyes would not change his style. But the rest of his immediate backroom team would.
What was unique about them, compared to other clubs I have been at, was they were all lifelong fans of the club they worked for, from the kit men to the press officers to the masseurs. They were all tuned in and hyped up because we were playing Liverpool, and always relayed the message of how important this game is to their club and its fans.
Some players may see this as a bad thing, adding to the pressure and tension, but I believe it is why Everton is a truly special club which has a real bond with its supporters. And it definitely made a difference to my mind-set."

I think we have to stop thinking how are we going to stop them and start thinking about we are going to impose ourselves on them. Things like playing Naismith or Osman because they offer more 'protection' is absurd. We have players who can get at Liverpool and cause them some real problems and of those players impose themselves on this game it wont matter whether they have Messi, Maradona or Pele playing.
